Every computer, every device has security issues. It doesn't matter if it's Windows, Android, Mac, iOS. All of them have security issues and that's a good thing.

I understand that, but clearly by comments, some do not. Like:

Windows 11 can run Android apps so you can get even more opportunities to load malware and virus onto your PC

Has MR become THAT much of an Apple echo chamber that now we make stuff up too? Pretending that Apple doesnt have its own various (and similar) platform and other issues...

What a mistake. Android apps are poor, and Android “tablet” apps (which would make the most sense to use on a desktop) are outright terrible.

Frankly, even iOS apps on M1 macOS wasn’t even a good idea.
I've had an Android tablet and I don't recall any terrible apps. What apps are you specifically talking about? I wouldn't say Android apps are poor. Some of them are pretty awesome and the same as iOS.
YouTube Vanced is the one that I miss on iOS. My dear god, it's an awesome app. Wish they'd release it for iOS. It's even better than YouTube premium.

I also think that WhatsApp looks better on Android.

No, they never promised iOS apps working on Intel Macs. They have made it easier for developers to port iOS apps to the Mac.

And it didn't happen because there was no will to make it happen. So Microsoft just beat them and did it to shove it in their face with Android. Tim Cook is the Empty Promise CEO. When those $10,000 Mac Pros get obsoleted, the Mac Pro market will be dead forever. You can only get burned so many times for that much money. Just saying.

The Windows Store is terrible. I hope they fixed the issue where downloads create root-level folders that can not be viewed OR deleted by the user. While they are at it they need to stop letting developers use the Documents folder as their own personal dumping ground.

I am not sure, but it will certainly run on ARM. I watched the video that Microsoft released, and it says "designed for any device", which is clearly an indication that it will be widely compatible.

TPM 2.0 says hi

meaning not widely compatible and definitely “not designed for any device” since some Windows 10 computers don’t have this option worldwide

also you can install TPM 2.0 provided you have the hardware but it will be tricky on laptops though

It’s the Amazon AppStore though, so no Google apps and services- or tons of other apps. Problem is that Google hates Microsoft and would never agree to collaborate with them.

As for them letting any app into the Microsoft Store- kind of defeats the point of having it. The point of Apple’s App Store, at least, is not just a centralized repository of apps- it’s a trusted platform where every app has been vetted and sandboxed. So if you just let all apps on- you lose that advantage. Now because the Microsoft Store is such a wasteland this may make sense for Windows but it is in no way applicable to Apple.

E3 went fairly smoothly. So did WWDC21.
I watched microsoft livestream and it was smooth, but some users experienced

but there can be appstores like taptap, qooapp etc but these are for games

Sorry but that just show how many people around the world wanted to watch the presentation. YUUUGE!
LMAO so that's the excuse huh? When Apple has even a slight hint of a stutter during it's presentation then MR members go crazy trashing the company as if they committed a crime. Good ole Microsoft gets a pass...because so many people were watching the stream. 🙄

This is certainly the most Apple-like I've ever seen Microsoft. Intel/AMD started to add TPM support to CPUs from 2014 and later.

So, more or less all CPUs older than 2015 or so, are definitely not supported by Windows 11.

It's a rather arbitrary requirement, and does ensure the uptake of Windows 11 will be far slower than Windows 10.

Of the x86, Ivy Bridge and Sandy Bridge CPUs are therefore not supported. They're powerful enough to run W11, they just don't have TPM and only Ryzen CPUs from AMD will be able to run W11.

A brave choice, Microsoft.

I think this is a big issue for uptake which MS will have to back off of if they want to get people moved to 11. Even with computers which have TPM. From what I can tell you have to have secure boot enabled. Which I don't have enabled. As it makes it a royal pain in the butt multi-booting or using repair utilities.

so i am going to assume that windows 10 ARM was only intended for tablets and that microsoft has no interest in supporting apple silicon? it would make sense because supporting apple silicon = more people buying mac = more people using mac os = decline of windows in the long run.
Even if Windows became officially available for Apple silicon, wouldn’t every developer have to recompile their software for it?

Well Microsoft is going to have a compatibility layer somehow, as opposed to Apple where it's run natively.
It's already 1-0 Apple.
Guess I'm the only one to actually watch the keynote. It was a direct attack on Apple and anyone on this site should watch it because you will catch the jabs pretty easily.

Microsoft store will charge ZERO commissions if a developer wants to bring their own commerce back-end to sell their apps on the Windows Store.

Multiple stabs at user and developer choic

No they ported WSL to WOA and Adobe has begun porting some of their creative suite. WOA is alive, it's a hardware issue (glares at Qcom and somewhat ARM). People here are too down on competing software they've likely never had or used.

Hardware is the actual domain that is increasingly Apple's home turf — even if I would prefer a different aesthetic sometimes, the actual metal is just phenomenally well-designed and high tech.

Look at the M1, look at the Macbook Air baseline for $899 - nothing comes close. Look at the phone SE which also goes on sale.
AirPods Pro have competition that sounds better but man are they *miniaturized* well and consistently recieve signal. The Beats Studio Buds for $149 are head and shoulders above non-ANC cheapo buds or poor QC buds from Anker. The iPad Air stands alone even just in the hardware department if only due to the chip & well-placed aspect ratio, it is a fantastic value. The Apple Watch makes the iPod's reign look quant by comparison. It is still a tad hefty but miles ahead of the competition, it's not even funny.

The list goes on. Apple makes great hardware, and decent, consistent software. But it's naive to believe modern Windows doesn't have real advantages - even modulo gaming. Similarly naive to believe ChromeOS is a poor user experience, or that Android hasn't conquered the lions share of the frametate issues that plagued it, or that Windows runs poorly on similar hardware relative to MacOS (the opposite is true IME).
