Ted Ligety.....two words..."kicked ass". :) Oh and that poor crying guy over getting the silver medal was just heartbreaking....well normally I don't like sore losers but it was kind of sad to me for some reason because he was SO SO UPSET about not getting the GOLD

Oh well very happy for the young 21 year old from Park City, Utah that shocked everyone and got the GOLD for the USA. Guess we didn't need Bode afterall!! ;)

well he was so happy to get silver since he wasn't exactly suspecting it
but with rocca, svindal, raich, miller, walchhofer screwing it up or simply having a bad day it were the day for those three

at least in the women downhill today our girls finally scored the first alpin gold of the games and finally _not_ a surprise winner

edit: HOORAY second gold for austria today ... thankfully a surprise in the Tandem Luge ... hopefully the party won't be too big in the austria house in turin this evening ...

I thought those were tears of joy over getting a medal.

Ted Ligety's mom was pretty stunned... too shocked to celebrate.

My favorite athlete yesterday was Brian Joubert, the French figure skater. He didn't earn a medal (4th place), but he had that great 007 costume (white on one side, black on the other) and used James Bond music during his routine.

The freestyle moguls were amazing!

I haven't watched much of the Olympics in recent years and I'd forgotten that some of these acrobatic sports were in there.

The skating isn't doing much for me but most of the skiing/snowing disciplines have been fun to watch as have the luge and the curling.

OK OK I am not talking about Ted first of all--I know he was stoked...maybe I didn't understand why the other guy was crying so hard but now I get he was so HAPPY too--it didn't look like that to me when I was watching it because they kept showing the clip of him getting beat by Ted!! My bad! The coverage on everything just confused me a little! :)

Also right after those results I turned it to the Daily Show to watch more on Dick Cheney drama so I didn't see the final ceremony!!

You bloody ripper!!!!

We get our first ever gold in a real skiing event! So what if he's Canadian born he's going to get a ticker tape parade when he gets back!!!

LEGEND!!!

Now all we need is for Alisa, Lydia or Jacqui to step up and take the gold in the freestyle aerials and we're set.

DAAAAALE!!!! DAAAAALE!! DAAAALE!!!

Russian biathlete suspended in first doping case of Torino Games and stripped of Silver medal.

There's a decent chance that others will similarly fall from grace ... just a matter of time.

How does it "suck for her" if she cheated? If the test is confirmed then she deserves to lose her medal.

Geez I KNOW THAT and I hate cheaters--she had it coming if she was going to do that in the first place...BUT it is still going to suck for her and Russia....I don't get how you didn't understand what I meant!

As opposed to accidentally taking a performance-enhancer? That has happened before, but there's no reason to believe it happened to her. It may suck for Russians in the sense that they might have celebrated the medal and now it will be taken away. But it only sucks for her if she's the victim, which she is NOT. Her competitors are the victims.

Well, it's becoming rather obvious that the US owns the Olympics snowboarding category...

Well didn't snowboarding originate in the US anyway??!! I would say the sport started here but I have yet to see the flick First Descent which would probably explain everything about it!! Snowboarding is the best one to watch and participate in my opinion! :)

We've really padded our medal totals in the last decade , which makes up for our lack of interest in luge, ski jumping, bobsledding, etc. Good thing we invented snowboarding, huh?

CONGRATS for the GOLD to Seth Wescott!!! He is the man!! :) I mean that race was SO CLOSE but he pulled it out right at the end!!! It was awesome to watch!!

(And I had my little snowboard history lesson tonight so it did orginate in Amercian and all the tricks and techniques are only in ONE language--English)!! Very cool!!!

Good luck to Lindsey tomorrow for the Women's Snowboarding Cross!! :)

Canada kicked butt today.

A nice bronze in the male figure skating.

PS. Anyone notice how incredibly biased the announcers are on NBC? It's sickening. I'll be sticking to CBC for the rest of the games.

OK, now I'm starting to get a bit upset with figure skating. My main complaint: There is so much pressure to do ever more complicated jumps (quads, etc.) that practically every skater tries them... and virtually ALL of them fall down at one point or another in their routines. That sucks. I think tonight I saw one skater (the Russian gold-medalist) get through an entire routine without falling down.

Can we agree that 4 rotations is the most that anyone can realistically achieve and cap the maneuvers so that people can perfect the STYLE and EXECUTION of their routines without worrying about trying to pull off a 5-rotation leap?

Perhaps, but Plushenko was in a class, all his own. The human interest story of his character development, family sacrifice and perseverance were a true credit to the sport.

Personally, I'm waiting for the quint.

They have to attempt the quad, because if they don't, someone else will and they'll have no shot at a medal.

He's only in a class of his own because Elvis retired.
