So you are saying there are times when you do need a second hand. And what kind of grip can you get on the 6? If I'm walking down the street or standing on the train, I don't want to have to baby the phone so it doesn't slip out of my hand. I want one I can get a secure grip on, like I can with the 4/5.

Adapt.
I used to hold my i5 with one hand and text one-handed etc.
I can't do that anymore with my 6+.
SO...I got used to doing things differently. Sure it was a bind for a few weeks but heck, this isn't major problem time is it.

Iphone 6 is not too big. Get over it. You will get used to the size in 3 days. After that you'll wonder how you managed with a smaller phone for so long.

I used to think that the 5 was the perfect size phone... until I got the 6+. Now I couldn't imagine using a smaller phone. Even using my wife's 6 feels too cramped. When I type on one of my dev 5Ss at work, it seems super hard to type efficiently on the tiny keyboard. If Apple stopped producing the plus size I'd probably end up (sadly) switching to a comparable size Nexus.

I got the 6+ with a 99% certainty I would return it for the 6 within the first few days. I just wanted to try it out on the off chance I would like it. After 2 days I knew I was going to keep the 6+. Now, after 2.5 months I don't think I'll ever want a phone with a screen smaller than 5.5".

iPhone 6+ all the way

I have been using the iPhone 6+ since launch. Coming from an iPhone 5S... you really can't compare. I am a voracious consumer of content; NY Times, CNN, WSJ, Time... as well as FB and Twitter... and you really can't compare this screen to anything that had come before it. Even for writing long-form emails or taking notes the screen real estate on the 5.5" model is insane. I just put it in my pants pocket and I have exact 1 5/8" to spare in both length and width. I have extremely long fingers... so this also isn't a problem for me. I have never used my phone one handed, mainly because it takes too long to type with only one thumb. I think this is the perfect device, for me. I can see where some smaller guys may have difficulty with it. That said, I live in NYC. I can't tell you the amount of older (and much, much shorter-statured) women use the 6+. Just stand in line someday at Whole Foods and look around. You would be amazed. I think I actually see the 6+ in more women's hands than men's. Just an observation, but notable.

I'm actually so used to the 6 plus I want an even larger screen now (but maybe the same size phone somehow)

jeez @OP, how small are you?

I know the ip6 is big, but not fitting in your pocket either means you are 3 feet tall or you need to change your pant brand to accommodate your smartphone preferences

OP you should get a dumb phone, maybe that will be small enough.

In all seriousness, give the 6 a try, it's not much bigger than the 5.

Happy iPhone 6 user

I received my iPhone 6 the first day they came out, and I can say I have been extremely happy with it.

A lot of people will complain about its size, but I don't see the reasoning. I'm a 6ft male, 180lbs, possibly above average hand size (but I don't know what average is with hands). I wear slightly tight jeans, a little bit looser khakis but still tightish, dress clothes that fit properly, athletic clothes, jackets, hoodies, so basically all types of clothing, and I have never had an issue sitting, standing, moving or doing any activity with my iPhone 6.

It fits perfectly in my pocket no matter which pants I wear (I keep my phone in my front right pocket). I can easily sit down and it not be uncomfortable, or even noticeable for that matter.

I often use it with 1 hand, but type with two. However, I have always typed with 2 hands on any phone I have owned. Browsing is all one hand. I take pictures with one hand. Make calls, check emails, play most games, pretty much everything one handed. I can easily reach every corner of my phone without issue.

I can understand hesitations about getting a larger phone. But as many people have said, you adapt. Yeah, I think I hold it different than I did my 5, but now it feels normal.

Every time I pick up a 5/5s I am baffled by how small it feels. It's not even that much smaller, I know this, but it feels tiny. The size of the 6 is perfect for me, and I think it's perfect for a lot of people. 10 minutes in a store isn't enough to convince you it's the right size. That being said, after the first day I had it, I knew I'd never go back.

Hope this helps.

There's a lot of people here complaining that the iPhone 6 is too big, and a lot of other people saying that it's not. They're both right - the size of phone you prefer is a personal choice, some people like small phones, some people like big phones.

It has been disappointing to see lots of people dismissing the complaints of people that think that the iPhone 6 is too big, telling them that it isn't and to get used to it. I see no reason why Apple couldn't simultaneously sell top-end 4", 4.7", and 5.5" iPhones, a size range which will satisfy many more people than just the 4.7" and 5.5" iPhones they're selling now.

For the record, I bought an iPhone 6 at launch and switched back to my iPhone 5s a month later because I couldn't get used to the size (after the return period, so I still have the 6). I'd buy a 4" iPhone 6 at 6 Plus prices in a heartbeat.

from iPhone 4 to iPhone 6

From my experience only using the iPhone 4 for 2+ years, the iPhone 6 start out feeling big at first but after a while, it felt normal. Now I find holding my old iPhone extremely unnatural and annoy, . . . an hard to read. In the end, it all just about personal preferences.

My human specs:
5'9''
medium hands, i guess
use reachability for about two weeks then forgotten about it :p
fits in my pocket!

I wear earbuds, well IEMs most of the time. They are small and mobile.

And I couldn´t care less how people look at me. I would feel cumbersome and douchy with big phone or headphones with me, even when there wouldn´t be anyone around.

Just common sense.

Grow some self esteem for christ's sake. It's a PHONE. You use the word douchy with reckless abandon. The irony is absurd....

The 6 Plus fits perfectly in my Lee Cooper's or Levi's but If I wear something more thight like a pair of skinny jeans form H&M it pokes out a few mm.

But I don't care.

Why so much snark towards people who prefer a smaller phone???
I don't begrudge anyone who wants a phablet in their hands, I personally don't.

Got the 6+ the day it came out...gave my 5 to my wife.

LOVE my 6+. At first it felt huge, but like other posters have said, you adapt and it becomes the new "normal." I have no issues with it fitting in pockets or anything else like that (except when I wear tighter jeans, I do have to pivot it a bit in my pocket when I sit down, but it's really not a big deal). I used to think phablets were obnoxious, but I've done a complete 180...the screen real estate is a godsend, and I can't imagine going back to a smaller-screened phone.

Even my wife, who for weeks thought it was ridiculously big, has come around...after a few turns using it, she is now looking forward to it being her phone when I upgrade to the 7+ or 7S+.

And for folks who still think it's too big, the 5S is still for sale. ;)

went back and forth

Got the 6 on day 1. Later purchased the 6+ then returned it and went back to the 6. I then purchased the 6+ again and tried to live with it. I can get kinda used to the size(still think Apple can make smaller bezels) but its just too heavy. Wrist fatigue if you talk a lot is real. Been back with the 6 now and am much, much happier.

One thing to consider: most people tend to overstate the value of something they've spent their hard-earned money on. I'm not saying that that's what people in this thread are doing, but who wants to say "I bought a $650+ dollar phone, and I regret it." It makes you appear foolish.

That being said, I was actually thinking about the size of my iPhone 6 just last night. I wish it was smaller. I'm over 6 feet tall, so my hands are reasonably large, but using it with one hand feels completely unwieldy. A common response to that complaint is, "Change the way you use it," but why? This is my fourth iPhone (and before that I had several iPods), and I've developed usage habits that work for me.

Here's why I haven't returned the iPhone 6:

  • Touch ID
  • Better Camera
  • Apple Pay
  • Curved screen edges

That being said, if Apple released an iPhone 6S that's closer to a 5/5S in size (with obvious improvements in width, etc.) I would sell my 6 in a heartbeat and go for the smaller option.

I see no reason why Apple couldn't simultaneously sell top-end 4", 4.7", and 5.5" iPhones, a size range which will satisfy many more people than just the 4.7" and 5.5" iPhones they're selling now.

The reason is obvious; they don't see it as being profitable. The number of consumers who are still sticklers for a smaller phone probably doesn't justify actually producing a line of them.

Most people will probably either suck it up and get a 6, or buy/stick with the 5s for as long as they can. Frankly, if you don't want a larger screen and don't care about Apple Pay, there's not really any reason to not get a 5s. It's fast and powerful enough that most people probably won't even notice a performance difference, and the camera and battery life are only slightly better.

The new iPhones aren't too big. They're actually the perfect size for many of the things we do on them: text, video, social media, games etc.

I went from the iPhone 5 to the 6 Plus (since October) and although it seemed a little big initially, I wouldn't go back.

I'd like to see these "average male sized jeans" that can't fit an iPhone 6 in them. You must be like 4 feet tall.

I've had 3s, 4s and 5s and now 6s. The 6 Plus is too big, the std 6 is right on the edge. I never use a case because I don't want any more bulk in my pocket and the 6s rounded corners make it hard to hold onto. Yes, I use my phone with one hand, use my little finger as a rest and dial numbers with my thumb.

This is as far as I go. I'm never buying a bigger phone than a std 6.
