Wish I could get a new iPhone, but the iPhone 6 is too big! :(

I jumped from the iPhone 4 (not 4S, 4) to the iPhone 6. I hate the size of the 6, it's far too cumbersome to use with one hand, which is what made my 4 so much more enjoyable to use on a daily basis. Yes the bigger screen on the 6 is nice, but for everyday use I'd take a 3.5 or 4 inch screen any day.

Edit: Give me all the features of the 6 on a smaller phone. If I need a bigger screen I'll defer to my tablet.

The reason is obvious; they don't see it as being profitable. The number of consumers who are still sticklers for a smaller phone probably doesn't justify actually producing a line of them.

Most people will probably either suck it up and get a 6, or buy/stick with the 5s for as long as they can. Frankly, if you don't want a larger screen and don't care about Apple Pay, there's not really any reason to not get a 5s. It's fast and powerful enough that most people probably won't even notice a performance difference, and the camera and battery life are only slightly better.

I don't know, I've heard a lot of grousing about the iPhone 6 being too big from a lot of people. Maybe I'm especially sensitive to it given that I also share the opinion, but to me it sounds like there are about the same number of people that would like a 4" iPhone 6 as like the iPhone 6 Plus. A minority, sure, but a substantial one that Apple saw fit to cater to.

I really hope Apple does indeed offer the 6S as a 4 inch option. I had the 6 and returned it because I could not use it one-handed, I simply could not reach the upper left corner with my thumb comfortably (I have average sized hands), the work-around double-tap got on my nerves.

Now, my company got a 6+ for test purposes (I'm an app developer), and I cannot even imagine carrying that thing around all day. Tried it, hated it.

So, Apple, please do a 6S in small. Thanks!

Regarding the percentage of people wanting a smaller iPhone 6, I don't think anyone of us really know, and neither does Apple. Otherwise wouldn't think Apple would have released a larger iPhone before the 6 and 6+? It's just common business sense: make money.

And if you think you can gauge the trend by looking at responses on this forum, you are dead wrong. There was a poll regarding the choice of the 6 and 6+ here recently, and according to the results, more than 50% chose a 6+. Clearly the results did not represent the population as a whole because one would be delusional to think that Apple sold more 6+ than 6.

I think the reason Apple did not release a 4" version of the iP6 this round is that the 5s is still a viable option, and they did not want to confuse potential customers with too many choices: a new model in 3 sizes. In the next release, perhaps a 6s in 4" will be an option, because the 5s would be a bit old, and adding a size to a model revision is not as confusing.

Of course I can be wrong, but at least I don't claim that I know what's going on.

I’m sad by the size of the 6. I’ve recently had a chance to go back to my 5s for a couple of days and it was a refreshing experience the device feels again natural and pleasant in my hand. I’m not suffering from the 6, but that is because I got used to not being able to use it as freely as I can on the 5s, it’s always feels broken but manageable.

I’d like to say the the double click feature of pulling the screen down is plain broken, it could be fixed but it hasn’t been so far - I sometimes get to “miss click” it when I play with the home button with my fingers, and worse I can just tap to make it go away, i’m required to remember to tap in specific regions. This also makes me sad.

Believe, me I would never extrapolate consumer preferences based on this, or any other, tech forum.

But the sales speak for themselves. Larger screen phones have been selling like hotcakes, and frankly, the only reason it took Apple this long to go above 4" is because they were stubborn. But I don't see them going back now that they've taken that step, just as they didn't go back to 3.5" phones even though there were (and still are) people saying that that is the ideal size.

If they do make another 4" phone (which as I say, I find doubtful) I bet it will be something like a "6c" that comes out along side the 6s/6s+, offering the previous generation's internals, lower storage options, and a cheaper plastic body. It would basically be seen as the "kiddie" model of the iPhone 6 line.

The sales speak for themselves because there isn't an option to buy a smaller phone with the newer tech in it.
People keep saying to buy a 5...it's not apples to apples though.

I agree.

Also, I disagree with the opinion that Apple took so long to release a larger phone because they were stubborn. We are talking about a multibillion dollar public company, not a person here. What does it take for a company to be stubborn? I can't imagine as the decision is not made by one person.

The iPhone 6+ is way too small

You just need to give the 20" iPhone a few days to get used to it.

I own a 6 Plus, and once used to the size, I sometimes wish it was bigger. It's a perfect size, but sometimes, more is needed.

iPhone 5S is pretty future proof. Get it.

With only 1GB RAM, no, it's not. I'm looking forward to replacing it with something with 2GB of RAM. I've noticed a slowdown with iOS 8 and while I realize that iOS 8 is buggy, only having 1GB of RAM will only make things worse in the future.

How "future proof" something is is very subjective. I think that many users would be fine with a 5s even a few years down the line. Lots of people are still using a 4/4s.

Don't wear those ridiculous skinny jeans and THERE YOU GO the iPhone 6 fits in your pocket!

If skinny jeans are more important, buy a 5S, or get a life.

I too find the 6 too big. It's almost impossible for me to operate it with only one hand which is a big inconvenience. If I tap something on the bottom and then the top of the screen, I have to shift my grip which has resulted in me dropping the phone multiple times. Wish Apple will offer a smaller phone in the next update.

Side by side with an Xperia Z3 Compact, I couldn't believe how big the bezels are on the iPhone 6, so my purchasing choice was easy. That, plus the 1GB RAM on the iPhone was reason not to buy.

I actually see more Z3 Compacts around than iPhone 6s where I live.

When Apple shows the new big iPhone 6. I don't like it. However, I've bought one of them and today I can't imagine an iPhone with 4". The problem is: Motorola has an excellent Smartphone, Moto Maxx, with 5.2" and Apple need to show that the iPhone Smartphone line still compatible with the public demands.

So the OP went from "a 5s barely even fits in my pants" to "it looks douchbaggy pulling out a large phone even though I don't care what others think of me" to not saying anything at all?

What was the actual point of this thread?

I'm still using my 4s as well, but since updating to iOS 8, it's been rough. I was expecting my 5s to handle iOS 8 as well as iOS7. While it may come close, it's showing a little bit of slowdown and hopefully the rumor of iOS 9 being the "cleanup update for iOS 8" is true for 5s owners who intend to use that phone longer than I probably will.

I wear nudie jeans - grim tim and thin finn cuts. Slim cuts, not skinny jeans.
the 6 plus don't fit and I wear 32" waist.

OP you should get a dumb phone, maybe that will be small enough.

In all seriousness, give the 6 a try, it's not much bigger than the 5.

My wife got the 6 so I now enjoy her 5s - and while it is very lovely and all that... I'd prefer a way, way smaller iphone.

Never mind 4", go back to a 3 1/2" screen with the new iPhone 6 style, and a reduced bezel on the top portion to make it even smaller.

I'm coming from using this dumb phone for the last 6 (!) years (on the original battery  )....

Yeah, like it doesn´t look douchebaggy at all whipping out a big phone in public. *facepalm*

It´s like wearing big over the ear headphones like Audeze LCD-2 in public and screaming to everyone "hey look at me I gotta big iPhone which is so cumbersome to carry around, but who cares, ´cause I´m cool, ´cause I jumped in the Apple´s latest "big phone trend"!!!" *facepalm*

I must say I genuinely feel offended by this post.

I did not choose iPhone 6 Plus because of a trend. I chose it because I have a long commute and often watch videos but I don't want to carry around two devices.

There are people who want the 6 Plus because they WANT the bigger screen, not because they follow a trend. And if they don't want what you want, doesn't mean they're douchebags, it means they make different decisions.

Actually, you're the douchebag, because you prematurely judge people. Ever thought about that?

It's always the narrow-minded unable to accept that there are people with a different taste than their own. Many people like the bigger screen for a bunch of reasons, get over it.

I'm actually so used to the 6 plus I want an even larger screen now (but maybe the same size phone somehow)

Yeah me too in some way. I do appreciate the big screen but it's kinda become normal now. #
