I certainly know where you're coming from, but it just sounds wrong to camp out in front of an AT&T store.

yeah its eaither att store or drive two hours to a big city were tons of people will be standing in line waiting.. my town is pretty small so alot of people will not be their

I'm hoping that the ability to purchase online that they have been doing recently will carry over to when the new phone is released as well. Wanna make sure I get my corporate discount applied on my monthly bill :)

Yeah I have already sold all my iPhones 3G and 2G but kept one 3G. If AT&T does the same thing as last year where if you have an iPhone already on the account, you are also eligible for the "upgrade" price. Whatever that may be, we do not know or maybe they won't enact that same policy again. I'm just making sure I can do the upgrade price.

Looks like WWDC here I come!

Open up an AT&T online account if you haven't already and it will tell you to the day when you are eligible for the upgrade price.

It may also tell you whether or not you're eligible to upgrade at the "higher" ($499) discounted price.

Will the price plans/handset/upgrade prices be announced at the WWDC, or do we have to wait until closer to the 'on-sale' date in July??

Went to the O2 shop today pretending to be interested in buying the current 3G iPhone (I'm waiting for the new model, but just wanted to see what info the store had....) and was told by the sales bloke not to bother and to wait for the new model.

Interesting as I thought they'd be keen to move all the current models they could. From a commercial point of view would it make sense to put people off buying the current model?

What are we expecting the price plans/handset prices to be for the 32gb phone???

you would be a bit cross if you bought the iphone, then they release a new model and 02 tell you to wait 18 months before you can get one!
I'd be fuming LOL:D

Me and my wife camped out last year for our 3G's.

It was her idea and while I complained, it was good that we did.

When we got to the ATT store at 12:30 AM there were already 10 people in line.

And by time the store opened, there were so many people in line, that TONS of them went home empty handed due to them selling out.

yeah i slept in my car and last year they only had 30 iphones soo i will be there early too

Even if it's announced at WWDC, it won't be available for sale that day. Not a chance.

They will not wait a month like they did last year. Having your best selling devise off the market for a month is not good business.

Yes because they will magically have shipped out thousands of phones across the country in the next 16 days ready for the day of the announcement.

In the past, they have always used WWDC to announce the future date that the new product will be available. In the past, that date was always several weeks in advance. However, doing this presents a problem: when the public becomes aware of a new version coming out, they often hold off buying the current version and wait for the new version, and this results in several weeks of lost sales. Apple could, this time around, possibly announce a release date of only one week away and immediately send shipments out to stores. BUT, I see something else equally possible: Apple may announce the current iPhone 3G will continue to be sold at a reduced price permanently, and that a newer, more expensive, iPhone 3.5G will be released later this summer. The price reduction of the current iPhone will be effective immediately. Consumers rush to buy the current iPhone, and when the new better one comes out, people rush to get that one. Consumers who go to buy an iPhone in fall or winter of 2009 will have their choice of an iPhone 3G for $89 or an iPhone 3.5G for $299 (example). :)

.

Last year, it showed I was eligible for upgrade around 12/2008 (3G came out in 7/2008). But, I popped my sim in my friend's iphone for a few days before 7/11 and it showed I was eligible for upgrade at the reduced price. Weird, so that means those that have iphones currently on their account are eligible?

Price Plans announced at the WWDC???

When will the price plans/handset costs be announced??

At the WWDC, or at a later date????

10 final days left.. this is when it will start to get JUICY.. not that it already hasnt been.. but MORE so ..

after 10 days people will say pre who?

Am I going to wait outside until the doors open to buy an iPhone? Yes.

How will I know what day I'll be waiting? Shiller will tell me on June 8th. My money is on one month. July 7th.

Wife's 40 tomorrow - wants iPhone : Help !

My wife is 40 tomorrow and wants an iPhone. I was going to hold off getting one until after WWDC but now I'm not so sure. It'll be a bit lame giving her an IOU on her 40th. So, should I just get her one today anyway ? She won't be bothered about any technical specs, but I'd be annoyed if the price of the 3G phone was reduced after WWDC as someone has rumoured.
What do people think ?

If she doesn't really care about the tech aspect, then I would go ahead and get it for her. Since it's for her birthday, I wouldn't really worry about a rumor of a price drop.

I am not waiting in line. I will wait until the instant craze is over and then I will go out and get one.

Hey, guys, maybe one of y'all know, but when did they tape the iPhone commercial last year? I remember they did it at an Apple Store in NY, right?

Dang it, I'm NOT buying the iPhone today. There are just too many what ifs and with WWDC being only just around the corner... I'm sure my wife will forgive me. I'll sellotape a picture of an iPhone into her birthday card with a big IOU beside it and buy her a very big box of chocolates. That should do the trick. Gulp.
OK, I'll buy her a bottle of champagne as well.

NO way i'd buy a 3G right now when a new device is about to surface.
