My wife is 40 tomorrow and wants an iPhone. I was going to hold off getting one until after WWDC but now I'm not so sure. It'll be a bit lame giving her an IOU on her 40th. So, should I just get her one today anyway ? She won't be bothered about any technical specs, but I'd be annoyed if the price of the 3G phone was reduced after WWDC as someone has rumoured.
What do people think ?
For that, you better camp out all night the night before the new iPhone go on sale.Dang it, I'm NOT buying the iPhone today. There are just too many what ifs and with WWDC being only just around the corner... I'm sure my wife will forgive me. I'll sellotape a picture of an iPhone into her birthday card with a big IOU beside it and buy her a very big box of chocolates. That should do the trick. Gulp.
OK, I'll buy her a bottle of champagne as well.
I stood in line at two AT&T stores last year to get the new iPhone 3G (my first gen, the glass broke when I dropped it). AT&T ran out very very very quickly even when I was 15th in line. I gave up on the AT&T stores and just got to Apple store really early (around 7 AM) and was about 10th in line. Got my new iPhone 3G and Apple had hundreds of iPhone 3G.Waiting in AT&T lines are better than Apple stores. You got the vibe of being in line with a lot of other people, but the line is much shorter than what would be at an Apple store, so you get in and out much quicker.
I'll be waiting in line again. Between the first iPhone and iPhone 3G, i get there about 4 hours before launch. For the first iPhone, i was about 40th in line of over 100. For the iPhone 3G, i was 4th in line.... of over 100. People think that there wouldn't be such a demand the 2nd time around. But trust me, there will be once again. Don't think you can walk in later in the day expecting to get one, it more than likely won't happen.
It's different this year. Most prospective first time smart phone buyers do not know the difference between the iphone and Palm Pre.
No, Apple and AT&T will not pull that stupid stunt again.
This is really lame, but I wish I could stand in line all day on the day its launched, seems like a really cool experience.
But...my mother is the primary account holder of the family plan my phone is on and I also have no credit card to pay for it at the store...

... but I'm going to be pissed if I get there very early and there are 50 something people lounging around! ...
Hehehe...the AT&T coporate store near me got, as I recall, a grand total of six iPhones launch day. I passed by there at 6am on the way to getting in line at the Apple store, and already 15-20 people were there.
Definitely doing the line thing this year, not only because I want the phone but because it was a great experience last time. Cherry Hill is a great location, especially since you're getting to stay inside an air conditioned mall while on line! There was a great sense of camaraderie amongst the people on line throughout the day, and more importantly the Apple Store employees did a really good job working with people, keeping everyone updated, even keeping stacks of bottled water and coffee for everyone. Heck, they went above and beyond the call for a number of patrons, including myself and my friend.
I'm just curious whether or not Apple will come up with anything to try and alleviate all the problems they had with activation last time!

I would guess demand would be high again. Especially if AT&T makes it easily available to existing 3G users. While general protocol for subsidized phones would dictate otherwise, I think that AT&T might make an exception since they are trying to retain exclusivity.
Why be so rude? I wasn't rude to you - I was stating when I bought my iPhone and I just said 'I wish there is not a new iPhone' - your comment is rude and uncalled for. Who said I was impatient? I bought my iPhone and I love it.
That's like me saying "I hope your iPhone breaks and you have the worst customer service ever from Apple" - that's damn right rude and I wouldn't say that.
I now know what you are like - and I couldn't be assed with people who are rude and have no respect for others.
Slow? Buggy? My iPhone 3G work just fine.well..i bought my iphone just over a month ago..new contract..switched from verizon..
AND IM ALREADY READY FOR THE NEW ONE..this thing is slow, buggy, and overall unimpressive compared the new technology coming out these days..
i knew there was a new iphone on the horizon...but i also know that I can resell my 3g easily when the new one comes out..
no biggie
I completely agree. I'm really anxious to see how AT&T and Apple will handle the fallout when they treat those millions of 3G purchasers like children and say you can't have the nice, pretty price.![]()
Nope, I wont be waiting in line, cant think of anything worse to do.

someone start a poll asking who's going to camp out and who isnt.
I would prefer to camp out at Apple like I did last year. They have more iphones at apple retail and it's pretty fun when the line starts to get full. You get to meet great people and I remembered some kid (10 year old) was sleeping in a sleeping bag with his dad.

Now, we live in Philadelphia, so with an urban city like that, it feels good to be featured on the nightly news sometimes.

really? ever thought that 2.2.1 is an official release and 3.0, as you stated, is BETA. and dont give that crap about how it does matter if its beta or not. If those problems persist when 3.0 is officially released, then you will have a valid pointtry beta 5 of os 3 and you wont feel the same.
the phone was solid on 2.2.1...but its gonna be a while before they get the new os running smooth.
icons not showing up...changing from other programs..missing keyboard when it pops up..missing slider to unlock..all kinds of weird stuff..
its been talked about online..im not the only one
