I said immediately this is a no go for me this year. The only difference is screen size....

Now I am curious to see what they will offer for my Series 6 considering they slap a new screen on it and its basically a 7. I could see them totally screwing everyone who waits until next year with super poor trade in values because we are jumping from 6 to 8.

I'm one of them, and this does precisely nothing to bolster your claim.
A lot of folks (understandably) have no idea of the complexity of the soup to nuts introduction of a product like the Apple Watch. The thought that they scrapped something last minute and we’ll be getting a backup version next week is crazy. They may have indeed changed plans, but that decision would have been quite awhile ago.

I think this was a ploy to discourage people from pre-ordering the watch, likely because they don't have sufficient supply to meet expected demands. I for one will not be ordering (if I even decide to do so) until I have more info.

Why the stonewalling wall of silence on this? What is Apple hiding? Is the Apple Watch that small of an upgrade that they have to play this game with us?

I think the answer at least for the comparison tool is that the 6 and 7 are very close in capabilities so they don't want them compared yet. Or at least that is the cynical side of me saying that.

Precisely why I’m waiting for Series 8. This looks like a stop-gap number change update, similar to S models of the phone in the past. I was able to get my Series 3 replaced due to a repair extension program, so it’ll last me another year. Makes you wonder if the true series 7 was delayed and this one is a safe alternate they had in case the big redesign didn’t make it

I'm in regardless. I sold my AW5 Ti when I moved over to Android for a year, so my current watch is an old AW3 SBSS, so the 7 is a definite upgrade for me.

It will suck selling the AW7 next year as the AW8 will most likely have radical changes, but I've gotten used to the fact that AW's depreciate hard. I'll anticipate selling a AW7 SS for 1/2 of that I paid for it, less than that if you include taxes, sigh.

Maybe this has been discussed but it’s also strange Verizon, T-Mobile etc aren’t showing anything on their sites either. Like the 7 doesn’t even exists

It does nothing except bolster the obvious. What is happening now is inexplicable otherwise. A major last minute change is perfectly acceptable explanation.

It is well known that Apple has multiple prototype candidates for a release, especially when a major redesign is being worked on. We didn't get choice A this year.

I'll be getting a Silver Stainless Steel Series 7. An upgrade from my S4 Silver SS. Not fussed what band as it will probably get sold with my S4 as I have more bands than I can count.

You know a better way to discourage people from pre-ordering the watch? Not announcing it.

I’m one of them. How is any of this evidence of that? They couldn’t decide the price because they changed course at the last minute? They changed course at the last minute so the release date is 2 weeks later than expected? Poppycock.
Apple always has multiple prototypes ready for production. If they don't go with choice A, many things are going to be turned upside down. Obviously Apple needed not only a delay, but didn't even have all the marketing material ready.

One thing we do know is that it still has that atrocious red ring on the cellular models... And on topic it's really strange that all of the lineup's pricing hasn't been revealed. Personally I work in spaces where I'm not allowed 2-way comms, so I don't wear my Watch enough to justify upgrading more than every 3-4 years. Hopefully next year is a more substantial upgrade.
There needs to be a clear way to identify cellular models just by looking at the watch on someone’s wrist. Do you have a suggestion for how that can be done without making it more obvious or changing the design of the watch?

Doesn't the cellular crown have red markings on it, while wifi only are plain?

I was shocked this info was not available the day of the announcement last month. The fact that it’s still not available (less than 24 hours before launch) is absolutely insane.

Why did they not just withhold the announcement until the October event ?

Because the iPhone update itself is pretty lackluster. I guess the iPad mini is pretty cool but, practically not too many people going to run out and buy one.

Do we even know what non-aluminum (SS/edition) finishes are available for these yet? That wasn't in the announcement and I haven't seen it elsewhere, but maybe I missed. Weird launch for sure
Yes, the press release page lists Silver, Graphite and Gold in SS.

I'm going to jump on it and order as soon as orders open for me. Know what I want sufficient to order and assume prices will be as before. Got my S6 serial number ready for the trade-in part of the order, and will order using Apple Card payments.

Then I will read the tech specs and everything I can find, and decide if I really want the watch. It will take a couple of hours before it gets to preparing to ship stage so have plenty of time to cancel without hassle if I don't like what I see. Also easy to do returns if it doesn't work out and I get it anyway.
