If you are worried, just act like this guy as you walk back to your car!

Um yeah, I don't know… Behaving like a zombie/demon-possessed man on your way out seems like a good way to raise your odds of being shot by one of those gun-toting iShoppers if you ask me!

It's no different to buying any new phone, it's just that on launch day people will know what you've gone in for. I always take a rucksack/backpack with me if I'm buying something from the Apple store and walking across town with it, no way will I walk out with a shiny Apple carrier bag...

That IMO, is THE soundest piece of advice I've seen, common sense prevails!

I queued up for my iPhone 4 on launch day, at the Apple Store on London's Regent Street.

It was admittedly early on in the "queueing phenomenom" days, but I never felt worried or scared.

Perhaps because I was carrying a motorbike helmet, any would be thieves didn't fancy a whack around the head!? :D

I do get people's apprehension though, I've gone to midnight launches for example, to pick up my XBOX One & my XBOX 360. That was a little more nerve wracking, because it's obviously dark and the only reason to be there is to pick up your console, but I just parked my car in a really close space earlier in the day and then walked into town to collect my console.

Come out of shop, turn left and arrive at car in circa 10 seconds.

If people are worried about collecting them for whenever reason, perhaps in store pickup shouldn't be tenor preferred method of getting iPhones on launch day?

Because guns aren't legal here, stupid people can't carry them around (legally). :)

Fixed that for you. ;)

I feel fine. I have a Springfield 1911 ultra compact V10 with Gold Dot hollow points. If someone wants to try and rob me, this question would be relevant to that individual.

I'll go against the grain here... I have a G30s, and baby eagle 9mm too...

1. go to Samsung store.
2. Buy a cheap piece of junk - like a USB key or a Galaxy Note
3. Throw out the junk, keep the Samsung bag.
4. When you pick up your iPhone, put it in the Samsung bag.
5. Carry it jauntily, swinging it and singing a little song about your new Samsung phone.
6. Watch people avoid you.

:)

Exactly. I brought in my iPad Mini Retina in to sell the other day and placed the Apple bag into a Gap bag. No one even blinked. Bring a knapsack or a purse too.

If I were upgrading now, I would not show it off anywhere.

I love being in California with a CCW. I'm typically the only one around with a gun :)

Typically, but not always ;)
One major perk of living in the Central Valley. Very 2A friendly.

As a side note, I'm pleased to see other like-minded folks (WRT guns and CCW) on an Apple forum. I always felt like I was on the edge of the outside with 99% liberals who'd have nothing else in common with me in real life. Not putting liberals down, we just disagree on much.

Btw, Glock 36 for years, recently changed to S&W M&P Shield 9mm with CT laserguard. That is one sweet weapon that is so easy to carry and conceal that it's mind boggling that I ever fought the blocky Glock all those years.

As if anyone would do that anyway, It was a joke (Sense of humour?)

Open Carry is for some, not for me. The entire reason I carry is for personal protection. I want it concealed. Some people may see it and stay away, other may see it and think you are the first target to take out since you pose a threat.

Maybe it's just me and my un-'Murican ways, but why concealed carry specifically? Wouldn't, y'know, carrying your lethal weapon in full view deter thieves more?

Stores have the right to ask you to leave if you are legally allowed to open carry and actually practice that method.

Most people aren't going to conceal while buying, then switch to open carry after they have left the store. You could just pull your shirt up and over the grip of your gun if you use an IWB holster, but the sheep may see you do this and call the police. THEN, you may have an issue of brandishing your weapon and possibly an assault charge by doing so.

I may do a decoy route like this.

If anyone tried to steal my iPhone 6+ walking out to my car, they had better bring a gun... and backup.. just saying.... one of us is going down for murder.

Seriously though, put your phone in your pocket like you normally would and carry the bag. If they grab the bag with the box and charging cable oh well....

If it's you killing in self defense, that's not murder. However, if your life isn't being immediately threatened, then you're right - you're going down for murder (or manslaughter).

Malls are private property and many Apple stores are inside malls. Carrying weapons through crowded malls may not be a good idea with other jumpy parents packing as well... not to mention being cased/ questioned by police while other people are taking your spot in the line :D

Because it is illegal to do so in many parts of the US...

OK, thanks, didn't know that. Seems a bit counter-intuitive though: hiding your weapon in a holster is perfectly fine, but showing it isn't? Surely concealed carry is more dangerous as you then don't know who could potentially shoot you at any moment?

Open Carry
Legal in 31 states without a permit.
Legal in 13 states requiring a permit.

Illegal in six states and D.C.. :)

Concealed Carry is legal in all 50 states. D.C. is still, well D.C..

Yeah, gun laws in the US are a bit wacky. We're still trying to figure it out.

Even if open carry was legal in my state, I'd personally prefer to conceal carry. I'd prefer the element of surprise. But open carry does provide a certain element of deterrence. Most thieves don't want an armed confrontation. They are cowards and just looking for a quick and easy score.

It boils down to personal responsibility. Do you simply hand over your property to a thief who asks, and hope he doesn't hurt you? Or do you take an active role in defending yourself? Different people will have different opinions on this one. I for one rather take my life in my own hands rather than hope a thief doesn't feel like hurting me. But that's me.
