I also can't believe the responses this thread has gotten. The OP just wants people to test so we can see if the issue can be actually isolated to individual phones or if actually it does affect them all.

If someone shows two iPhone 4's next to each other, one having issues and another not having issues it proves that it doesn't affect all iPhone 4's. Otherwise, it's plausible that all iPhone 4's are effected when used in certain areas. There has so far been not 1 single piece of evidence to suggest that some iPhones work while others don't. This would prove that.

If anyone can provide such a video we'll be able to have a much better understanding of the situation.

Again... I did the test, if anyone is interested.

I test two iPhone 4's for the reception loss issues when holding the metal bands. I have both phones in the same location, both caseless. Let me know what you think.

I think both phones are showing little or no signal degradation. Which isn't the point of the thread.

Fair play for making the video though. If you find a location where your signal genuinely drops while touching the phone, be sure to test both phones there :)

Well the phone that did drop only lost 1 bar and it took quite a while. I'd say that both phones held up well in that test.

I think we need more tests, but thanks for doing it.

Ok, I wasn't sure if you would view the 1 bar drop as part of the issue or not, so I uploaded it anyway. Personally I think it was just signal fluctuation.

Hmm, well I remember there was an iPhone demo unit at the ATT store near my home, that dropped all the way to 1 bar when I tried the reception test. I'll try and drive over there tomorrow with one of my iPhone's and try it there.

Legend.

I can prove my phone doesn't do this at work. I can prove my phone does do this at my house.

What's the point of this thread again?

That everybody is In the same boat as you but some people don't realise it yet...

You should do the test where you bridge the antennas with a key or a paperclip, if a phone can pass the keytest then you may start speculating if they have some kind of coating.

Thanks for the support guys, glad to see people understanding my initial request. Let's just hope that someone can post some evidence soon.

Most people understand your request, but feel that YOU should be providing the proof. It's your thread, you should have conducted the test yourself and posted the results. Now, someone in the States could attempt this test as well to rule out an AT&T issue, but if both sides of the pond are experiencing this, it shouldn't be network specific. The problem is finding a phone that is known to have the "issue" and one that doesn't, since no one knows what the actual "issue" is. If were someone were "lucky" enough to have one of each, then you have to find "right" location in order to determine this. It sounds like a tall order to me.

I'm making myself late for work because of this!

I have had no issues with my iPhone 4. Love it. Sorry that there are others out there having problems.

I don't understand why the OP wants everyone to have this problem?

I have supplied 3 pics, taken a minute apart between which I was holding the phone, covering the black lines. I DID NOT LOSE ANY SIGNAL.

Something tells me though that the OP won't accept this as proof of a working iPhone 4.

LMAO!! I nearly wet myself when I saw your post. You've officially proven yourself one of the most clueless people on the planet.

Peopel, is it really that hard to understand the request? There are thousands upon thousands who can reproduce what you just posted, but that's not what anyone is asking for. After hundreds of descriptions some still don't understand the question!

Please, please, please, people. We understand the following:

It's been proven thousands of times that people can "hold it wrong" and not see the issue. WE UNDERSTAND THIS!

It's been proven thousands of times that people can "hold it wrong" and they do see the issue. WE UNDERSTAND THIS!

It's been proven many times that multiple phones in the same location, when held wrong, will all not see the issue. WE UNDERSTAND THIS!

It's been proven many times that multiple phones in the same location, when held wrong, will all see the issue. WE UNDERSTAND THIS!

What we have NOT seen is multiple phones in the same location that, when held wrong, will result in some showing the issue and some not showing the issue. If you can post a video of this scenario, you get 1,000 Internet cookies! If not, don't bother responding saying "Mine workz so ur theory iz buzted, dood!" because you'll just look like a moron. (see above poster)

While you understand the heart of the request, you aren't getting part of his point. I know this because you feel HE should post the proof. What you're missing is that he (and many of us) don't feel it can be proven. So, it's a request or bounty of sorts to see if someone can create this scenario.

Put another way, his request is that someone needs to post pictures of bigfoot because he feels bigfoot doesn't exist. You're now saying that he should be the one posting pictures of bigfoot.

I would greatly enjoy seeing actual pictures of bigfoot. But I agree with you, if he is asking for proof because he doesn't believe it exists, than I missed part of his point. I just feel that he has become increasingly demanding throughout this thread. If it is unintentional, then that's fine. I would love to see this test done as well, but again, believe it's not so much impossible as it is a very tall order. Those saying that their phone is perfect and "that's all the proof you need" doesn't help anything in the least. But at the same time, if they are happy with their device, I can't blame them for not wanting to go out of their way to find a fault. I agree with both sides to a point but feel that a little more politeness could be exhibited throughout the thread. Myself included.

It shouldn't be too difficult. We've had plenty of people on this forum saying "i don't have the issue but my wife/friend/brother/etc does"

I do find their absence from this thread slightly odd though, I must say.

I've been getting snippy myself, mostly because of the frustrations over smug posts by people who claim it's not an issue while failing to understand the request. Would be good to either see proof or at least have the masses understand that it hasn't been proven yet.

Now, if we could have a video of Bigfoot and the Loch Ness Monster with their iPhones in the same location where one of their phones shows the problem and the other doesn't then we'd be in business, eh? :D

I don't think the OP is becoming demanding, but I do think he's frustrated by the amount of people either wittingly or unwittingly misunderstanding his request.

Right, given the copious amount of phones that exhibit both characteristics, you'd imagine it should be quite easy to find a "defective" and "non-defective" one for a side by side comparison.

FWIW, I had my iPhone 4 exchanged at the Apple store yesterday due to the sound issues with Facetime and movies. I looked over the new phone when he handed it to me to be sure it didn't have any other issues, and tried to replicate the signal drop thing. He said it wouldn't work at any Apple store because they all are running AT&T Microcells in the store and the issue only applies to "normal" AT&T signals.

How's this for a statement? Every iPhone 4 built to date has the reception defect!

Prove me wrong by showing two iPhone 4's side by side, one showing the defect and one not. Until then it's obvious that the people that think they have a perfect iPhone haven't been in a bad location yet.

No. My phone is working great, but I'm not going to respond to the condescending tone of your post.

That everybody is In the same boat as you but some people don't realise it yet...

Heh. Yeah I know I was being a smart ass. Two groups of people that "don't have this problem"

1) Those in strong signal areas or who hold the phone for 10 seconds and don't see a signal drop and think everything is fine

2) Those who would buy an empty phone box if Apple sold one.

I love my IPhone 4. Wouldn't trade it for any phone on the market. But there is a problem ....with all of them.

ok so im not getting this. i understand that there should be tests done with an iphone that works in one area and then bring it to an area where the iphone 4 isn't working with the antenna covered, but if this is the case then it would have to software, because if it were hardware it would happen everywhere.

thats My opinion.

The challenge is that folks who don't perceive having a problem simply aren't necessarily motivated to go to the trouble of finding someone with a problem device, videoing it, and then deal with the fallout / flaming that is sure to result from at least half the responses.

My phone doesn't appear to lose signal, and I don't have any dropped calls to report. In fact I seem to get better signal now than I did with my 3GS in the same places. Based on the hypothesis of this thread, that alone proves nothing.

But people who are not having a problem are much less likely to go to the trouble of proving things are fine - human nature. Having said that, just because noone has posted the video evidence as requested also does not prove anything.
