Couldn't have said it better. My request was quite simple but people would rather argue. My (and many others) theory is being proved correct I feel.

But it goes both ways. Insisting all phones have a problem when clearly some do not.

Very interesting. I would've liked the test to have gone on a bit longer, but still... quite an intriguing find.

Api99, are you the person who recorded the video?

Nope, just found it from youtube. I'am from finland so it will take few months us to have our own toys :(

280 posts later.

Exactly be at least we got there. It would be nice to see others proving this for clarity but that one video goes a long way to proving that some phones are fine which I think is good news for everyone because it doesn't show a general defect.

Ha! Thanks for posting it anyways.

Absolutely. Although the test was rather quick, less than 20 seconds spent on each phone, it still does show that some phones are not as susceptible as others.

A repeat test by another user with the same results would, FOR ME, solidify the findings 100%. Still though, this video is good, solid, evidence for a hardware defect.

This just adds to my confusion. Before I updated my 3GS to iOS4.0, I always had full signal in my living room on both 3G and wifi. Now, if I place my hand over the back bottom quarter of the phone, I lose up to three bars on both signals. When I hold it in any other manner, I regain full bars. This video shows that a software fix is not the solution as every phone's software is the same. But if it's hardware, why is my 3GS affected after the update? It could, of course, be a coincidence.

thanks for the video!

Though, now this makes me worry that a software fix is not possible.

The creator of the video just posted a comment under the video saying that both phones are now exhibiting the same issue, so Arn, there may be hope afterall.

This proves it. Why do you need to see even more?

I don't NEED to see any more, but I would like to. That is because it's ONE test, by ONE user, in ONE location. Read up on the scientific method and experimentation. More results will help solidify the findings.
Would you take a drug to cure a disease based on the trial of only one person? Unlikely. The more people able to recreate the results of this test, the more likely it is to be true and not just a single user anomaly.

Again, for the record, I believe the video is good, solid evidence that some phones are not as susceptible to the issue as others.

Ugh... actually see post above... doesn't look like the proof is holding up after all... :(

And that is why more than one test is needed.

well, seems I spoke to soon. Both phones are now experiencing the issue. I cycled the power off and on because calls weren't going through. When it started back up I received a flood of new texts from the day before... It was as if it was getting NO signal at all for 24 hours, even though it said it had full bars.
Makes me think it's a software issue.

I know you said you are looking for PROOF, but i live in PA and i just took a bike ride through Maryland, West Virginia, and Virginia, and nowhere have i had problems. I have TRIED to get it to lose reception but it does not. Lucky? Maybe.

ah. that's good news then. (keeps Software issue in the realm of possibility).

I only lose 1 bar of service if I hold it "normally" while still connecting the two antennas. If i squeeze it tight it will lose all signal but I never hold it that tight.

I have the problem at work.

I do not have the problem at home (it loses 1 bar when holding the corner).

I do have an antenna really close to my house, though. So I don't know how signal strength plays into this.

It's strange that my hand could hamper a 5 bar "weak" signal, but not a 5 bar "strong" signal. Or maybe it's not strange? I have no idea how it works so I can't talk - I just want consistent signal.

How's this for a statement? Every iPhone 4 built to date has the reception defect!

Prove me wrong by showing two iPhone 4's side by side, one showing the defect and one not. Until then it's obvious that the people that think they have a perfect iPhone haven't been in a bad location yet.

How the hell do you know every iPhone manufactured to date has a reception problem? You're just upset that yours does and others, like mine, do not. Deal with it dude, you got a dud. So sorry. Don't try to spread your unhappiness to those of us who are enjoying every part of our new phones.

Oh good, for a moment I was worried that everyone had finally understood the point of this thread and would stop flaming the OP for trying to do something intelligent.

Ya just saw that. It certainly appears that it is a software issue then which is good news for everyone. I certainly don't want to have to replace my phone since it's perfect in every other way, still haven't dropped a call from this "bug" but I've certainly noticed the bars go down in my everyday use.
