Maybe behaving a certain way is just natural and to deny that is the real joke.....

Anyway, I just want something new from Apple real quick. I'm tired of saving my money and I want to spend it on something frivolous that I don't really need.... maybe that's just a "man" thing:D

We don't want to start the nature vs. nurture argument, but it's a pretty well accepted that the way we perceive "manliness" and "womanliness" is the direct result of cultural conditioning. We're not born with little "man" and "woman" programs. It's learned.

For example: In America skirts are "girlie." In Scotland, guys who wear kilts (basically bitchun plaid skirts) throw full-grown trees into the air for fun (caber toss). And they also eat haggis and drink stout. To a Scott, kilts are manly. Very manly.

Mmm...but IN GENERAL, the male of a species is the more aggressive one, and the "manliness" and "womanliness" features have been pretty similar for AGES, its not completely conditioning...

A lot of people here who are saying 'Apple has some catching up to do', etc. seem to forget this is a PROTOTYPE! Maybe Steve already has an Ultrathin laptop in the works, but until you can buy this Intel machine in the store, then I wouldn't say 'Apple is falling behind' on anything.

May I Interest you in an ultra light Pet Rock? It comes in multicolors, touch crevices and a universal power source! :)

.

Pretty well accepted by whom? Not to drag this on but far too many people speak for the thinking of others. Interestingly when others decide they don't agree those that do the speaking for them, the "speakers" tag on "phobia" to the subject and a new round of stupidity is started.......

Not sure where you live but I can't remember seeing any male animals in my neck-of-the-woods wearing a skirt......

Maybe it's cultural conditioning that is trying to make this a unisex world. But those that speak for others never see it that way.

Either way I don't real care, I just want an updated Mac..... in a manly brawny color.

Yes, testosterone does cause aggressiveness. I should have been more clear. . .we're talking about the perception of the "manliness" and "womanliness" of objects. That is conditioned.

I think we lean on biology a little too much. "Men are aggressive because they're men and that's natural" is a cop out. Society has great power in shaping gender roles and behavior in general.

Um. . . what? I don't follow you at all. Please clarify.

Ok please do not take this wrong, but I first though when i read this, ok MacBook Pro rip off, and then I looked at the pic with the straps and different colors and I'm sorry but I don't think many men would buy one of these lol. I'm not being descriminative but it's just like cars... in general how many straight guys own a Mazda Miada??? Really? Just my prediction... Time will tell!

Just remember the iBook... That curvy, colourful notebook was in A LOT of male hands, as well as children and women.
did anyone notice this on the slideshow?

"A version of this laptop could be sold by a yet-unnamed manufacturer as early as this fall. But you can start ogling now." Hmm... Well, lets see... Apple just recentley filed some patents regarding thin notebooks...

Sounds like something Wham-O might be interested in making... dunno about Apple. Apple would likely be more interested in making a real ultra-mobile, rather than some kind of fad toy notebook on a rope. :p

There's no way Apple is behind this. Apple would make everyone sign nondisclosures and then would sue the hell out of them today for sharing this with businessweek, even if it didn't have an Apple logo. Apple doesn't want other people copying their designs. And yeah, Apple does its *own* designs. It doesn't outsource their design to a studio. This is probably an HP - it looks like their style. Jay Z will probably have one.

I'm hoping that "unknown" manufacturer is Apple. It could be possible.

I don't think so. From what I understand, Intel is searching for an OEM to produce this notebook. I guess the notebook will be Intel-branded / sold under the Intel name.

And by the way: Apple is not a manufacturer. They design and distribute/sell their products, but they don't actually produce them (the latter is done by OEMs).

Ubuntu? Blech! If you think Ubuntu is acceptable then I can see how you would think this laptop looks good. ;)

Ubuntu = Poor design aesthetic.

Yeah, because the most important thing in operating-system is the way it looks . And damn those Ubuntu-folks for making it utterly impossible to change the aesthetics!
