Never with the display though... people want to adjust their own brightness.

To my knowledge, MBP automatically adjusts the brightness of the screen as well.

BTW We know this isn't coming from Apple. Apple *never* shows products in advance. Why would they make an exception now?

Apple isn't showing anything here, Intel is.

As a consumer of designer and "metro" products, I'm going to have to go with the "this is an ugly pos" viewpoint.

Then you must also think the PowerBook/MacBook Pro is "an ugly pos" too then since its design is very close to that of Apples.

Very, very sexy. Surely Apple has something to do with it, whether it was co-engineered. or Apple simply designed it (meaning it could be a glimpse of the direction that Apple will be taking in the future, given this is being shown by Intel, and they are bound by contract.).

If not, then I'm sorry to say that Apple does indeed, dare I say it, have some cacthup to do.

And it looks very nice with the leather lining on it. Don't you see that the strap is optional?

It's a very good idea. If you haven't read the entire aricle, then you should. I think it is a phenominal advancement.

this pisses me off, its a concept that will happen SOMETIME in the future...you really can't compare it to anything that is being sold now because it's not being sold now. by the time it is released it will no longer appear as spectacular as it does now, and if apple think there's a decent market out there i rekon they're working on ultra-porable prototypes right now...they just don't go shouting it about. i would be incredibly excited if it were released this week, but i don't think that's gonna happen

If apple isn't making that or something similar, wow, just WOW... total dream computer, even with windows. The battery life, the screen without a case, the incredible thinness, the flash drive... I just don't even know which is my favorite! I even like the cases (which made me think stylish briefcase rather than purse), particularly for the magnetic attachment and the external screen (touch screen possiblilty?). I imagine in real life it would impress me even more. I'm not sure about the color, I'd have to see it in person, but I think the move to something other than plastic or simple silver metallic could be great. Oh, and wireless access pretty much anywhere... that's just got to be amazing to have.

Incredible.

In one stroke, this prototype is cooler than any laptop Apple has ever designed. Ives, pay attention: Portland's got your number.

I'm going to have to rethink another Mac purchase. This + Ubuntu = joy.

Ubuntu? Blech! If you think Ubuntu is acceptable then I can see how you would think this laptop looks good. ;)

Ubuntu = Poor design aesthetic.

Not even close. Not one bit. . . Design-wise, this notebook does not look as polished or well-thought out as even the current MacBook Pro case, which is really a few years old.

MAN-PURSE!

Combine it with a fanny pack and ooo-gaaah

The Miata is a great sports car, they are autocross and track day favorites. But yes the styling is girly.

Whatever.

Macho posturing is rediculous and just shows one's insecurity about their masculinity. You know what they say about giant trucks (you know, F-350's with lift kits and not a bit of dirt on them)? Damn that's big... compensating for something?

Anyway, minor rant about the uselessness and harm of common views of gender. The point is: the cases are, I think, fairly stylish and practical, and arguing about their perieved lack of masculinity perpetuates the silly notion that men must behave and appear in a particular way to be "real men", and that being "real men" is of utmost importance for some reason.

End rant.

Yeah! A couple of my guy friends drive Miatas! And one of them is a construction worker! Wait, not, like, a Village People kind of construction worker. . . Although he does wear shorts with his hardhat sometimes. . .

Maybe behaving a certain way is just natural and to deny that is the real joke.....

Anyway, I just want something new from Apple real quick. I'm tired of saving my money and I want to spend it on something frivolous that I don't really need.... maybe that's just a "man" thing:D

Flash drives

Buslink has a 64 GB drive but it is 5000 dollars. So does Kanguru Flash Dive Max no sure on the price though. Samsung also has one now that I looked. 128's are probably on the way.

Can someone invent a universal briefcase handle that connects to my Macbook via the kensington lock hole? A shoulder strap wouldn't be good... laptop banging against my hip bone at every step... bad...

FYI: The kensington lock hole is the wider, thinner hole right next to the headphone jack on Macbooks. It goes through the frame of the computer so I guess it won't do harm suspending the computer by it, right? Goodbye laptop sleeve! :p

Seriously, I'm sick of having to carry my Macbook under my arm when changing locations quickly. I miss the old iBooks with the handles. Hell, the Mac Pros have handles to carry them around which is actually really useful.

Buy a gun. :D

<just kidding, but it's so true>

I didn't realize they were that expensive. I mean that laptop would be like $7000 when all said and done. Nice battery life, but seriously.....

I like desktop replacement laptops, power is king, I rather have heavy big and power.

Yeah...why not create a 19" notebook for those who basically want a portable high power computer? You could fit in 2 batts, even 2 HDs and probably an optical drive. This would be great for video, photo and music pros (a huge market for apple) that work a lot in the field...i'd get one.

I think that you would need a strong back to carry this.

Anyhow, this thread is about an ultra portable. Of which those who want one understand that there will be trade-offs to get long battery life and be light at the same time.
