How thin do people need laptops to be? In lieu of a .25" tablet, an inch of thickness seems to be fine.

Damn that thing is slick! how big would its flash HDD be?

If it comes out at the beginning of next year, and they claim "Price was not a concern", I'm guessing options of 64GB and 128GB

I still love this concept laptop, from LG, partly because it makes the screen bigger, without making the case bigger, due to a small/non-existent bezel :)

That would be great for university, thin, light, tons of battery life. If it's not $3000 (which it probably is) then sign me up. Mac OS is awesome but 95% of the time, windows does everything I need just fine.

Keep an inch, give a mile, in features and capability.

They did specify weight. I don't think it matters all that much. Is anything under 5 lbs that much of a burden?

magnesium... let's hope the battery stays cool or that baby will burn very bright. :D

Glad you used the smiley, else we may have suspected that you were stupid.

Compaq, Dell, IBM and others have been using magnesium frames in their laptops for a long time (the Compaq that I bought 6 years ago was magnesium).

How much durability is lost when making a laptop so small?

I don't know how much durability is lost in other fields, but having a flash HD greatly increases durability, as you don't have a delicate spinning needle while you shake your machine around :)

I don't think you're really in the target market- but thats ok, other laptops exist to serve whatever it is YOU want (lots of power & not so worried about weight?).

5lbs is like 2.3kg- that's double the weight. Its a Macbook :). I would not buy a Macbook because they are too heavy so yes, it matters.

What other "features" do you want it to have? Its got pretty much everything that matters.

If you want a desktop replacement with a huge screen, multiple HDDs, an optical drive, 18 speakers & a TV tuner, then other laptops exist that'll do what you want- this is for people who want their laptop to be as small & light as possible while retaining the important features (connectivity & batterylife).

Those features can be added to Apple product. But how thin can you make something before it is prone to being bent by a minor knock?

looks great - and unless this very cheap dell monitor is tricking my eyes, that has to be the white ring of an optical output from the headphone socket. naysayers about optical output, please thumb it somewhere i'd not like to mention

By the look of the posts me thinks I'm in the minority but i actually like the design. Not so sure of the gold or the folio idea though. Plus i don't like the idea of wireless charging. We still don't really know the effect of constant low levels of radiation on the body and to be honest, until we do, i would prefer not to be able to charge my laptop from air!!! (feel free to mock me due to a complete misunderstanding of the situation, your mockery would be appreciated if accompanied by correction :D )

Optical output has a white ring? Really?

From TFA:
"A special accessory-a leather-like folder that wraps around the laptop and attaches with magnets-serves as a wireless charger and an external screen that lets users check e-mail without opening the computer."

0.7" seems to be just fine thanks.

More or less, yes. What has this got to do with its durability, which is what my comment was about?

My observation is that dimensions make little difference, after a certain point. Smaller dimensions could be unbeneficial, concerning durability.

Which laptop offers the best overall value, should a .3" improvement matter more than what you could add to a system that retained a whole inch of thickness?

Why doesn't Rolex care about how thin Movados are?

The day I got here the sound on my MBP blew. Both internal and external. doesn't work in Windows under BC either.

One of my laptops has a dodging analog power amp for sound - but my Altec externals are USB sound devices, so the onboard sound is irrelevant.

So I had to resort to using my work ThinkPad...the reliable laptop, for watching movies in the evening.

I like you - you realize that computers are tools to serve us.

Price not a factor huh?

Did anyone read the article or look at the slideshow? Isn't this thing running Windows?

Either way, it doesn't appeal to me. Neither the look nor the "features".

The new Mac Book Pros are as yet, unreleased. It's only speculation until we see what Apple releases.
