top secrets

Top Secrets:
It looks like ZFS was definitely one of them (but now the cat is out of the bag). Virtualization is a contender too but to me it looks Apple is happy that other developers like Parallels, etc are developing nice products. That is a good addendum to what (basic) they already offer. And I think it should stay that way. Third parties like Parallels can bring some very nice feature set which sometimes dont get that high attention among whole lot other features when bringing out a new OS.
However, the biggest top secret to me looks like is multi-touch feature. If they do, then Apple will definitely beat M $hiiit with a nice feature among others. Of course, now to make use of that, hardware is needed and with just release of new MacBook Pro's, I am questioning myself if that can happen, and if it does, then will they start with iMac/Mac Pro.
The other top secret (or not really so) may be radical change in user interface. Not just the outlook (colors, background, blah blah), but something more. They may add some new 3D effects using core animations.

I want Leopard to have the iTunes 7 GUI called "Illuminous" (including iTunes 7 scrollbar). I think it's pretty neat and it's time for a refresh to Aqua.

New iMac with a new design and Santa Rosa chipset. If no new design then definitely the new chipset.

Yes... I don't see why the iMac would be far away. It's largely the same inside as the MacBook Pro, which is out already. And the outside sounds like it will be Aluminum style like the Mac Pro, another machine that's already out. Should be no major unknowns in the project.

I have to say, based on that rumor roundup, I see little to get excited about.

Leopard: We already know it's great, we know there are a few more cool things, and we know we can't get it for months. So we get to see exactly what those little hidden features are... meh.

iphone: don't need more demos. release it already.

imacs: this would be exciting. but now they're saying we have to wait, so not time to get excited yet.

ultra-portable: see "imac."

So we're going to see... more of leopard, and a little more of the iphone? yawn. Here's hoping the rumors are wrong.

Tomorrow, I just want to hear about Leopard. I'm not buying any new hardware until it comes out so for me, that can wait till October. (Well, I may have to spring for an iPhone but that's a whole different story...):D

Yep. Developers will have to redo their GUIs for res independence anyway, so a good opportunity for Apple to refresh the look at the same time.

Yeah this round-up is making me feel sad, I think because we all expected Leopard at WWDC and iPhone! It would be a great one but now it just seems like a boring old conference where Apple might put SR in the iMacs upgrade the hard drive and say Oh yeah btw Leopard has this new feature when you can shout fart and it makes a fart noise. Thats all folks, Oh and one more thing !!!!! Developers please don't torrent your beta Leopard.

Leopard will be Leofart!!:D

I vote that new-look Santa Rosa iMacs will be announced - even if they aren't available immediately.

Reasoning:
  • Rumors of brushed metal and discontinuing 17" model to make the iMac "more premium" (or "more pro") would seem appropriate for the WWDC audience.
  • If Apple weren't doing something radical to the iMac, they'd have announced it before the WWDC with the MB and MBP.
  • Rumors that new iMacs are "some weeks away" may be true, but does not mean they won't at least be announced at the WWDC. The AppleTV, iPhone and iPod shuffle were all announced well in advance of their availability.

Just my £0s0d2.

I 2nd that!

Please, Leopard. Please be cool. Please give us t3h snappy and FTFF. Please.

Come on Apple. The Finder looks dated, and even reminds me of [ugh!] Windows 3.1 / 3.11.

Here's what I would like to see:

1. A revised Finder (using the same concept as Time Machine).
2. Widgets to be able to convert for iPhone without much recoding.
3. New iMacs / Mac Minis.

Meanwhile, Steve Jobs insists "Leopard will be worth the wait."

Is this something significant compared to other statements made by Steve Jobs regarding the previous versions of OS X?

As for "One more thing...", count me in for an ultra-portable - the PB 15" is just too big for everyday commute and while the MacBook looks enticing, I just need a bit more power (graphics wise).

Quad Mac Pros?

The Mac Pros have been updated at WWDC before, so I was hoping that this one would be no exception. I would like to see an all-quad (8 core) lineup: 2.33, 2.66 and 3.0 GHZ with an ATI Radion X2800XT as an additional graphics card choice. Wishful thinking? I guess we'll just have to wait and see. If no upgrade, I'm going to wait until there is before ordering.

Nice touch of crossing out the Apple Phone under the unlikely things...a reminders of times past.(For my long 2.5 years are at MR :p )

I wouldn't be surprised if that happens at some point, but I do think a limiting factor right now is the catching up of apps to work in highly parallel environments. There are still some things at which a 3.0x4 is going to be faster than a 2.3x8....

To date, Apple's Mac OS X Finder interface in developer builds of Leopard have remain untouched when compared to the current public version of Mac OS X.

That's not quite true - there have been a few improvements to the finder eg:

Sortable column view

The "Show warning before changing an extension" option

and a number of other improvements to the Save and Open dialogues (although arguably these are separate from the finder)

Note these are from the first public beta. The question is why would they bother making any changes at all if there was going to be a new finder? Were these early changes done before a new finder was decided upon? Who knows, fingers crossed.
