Does anyone recall WWDC 2005? SJ talked the whole time just about a transition to intel, and new models were only released much later....I'm not expecting anythign "huge" tomorrow that will impact us in the short term.

well for one...the keynote isn't 3 hours...its 1 1/2 hours. and i dont know about new macs...the macbook and macbook pro were just updated so those are out. but maybe new iMacs. im hoping for new macs :)

Thanks for the correction guess i shouln't believe everything people say on these boards. :) As you can tell I am desperately awaiting new desktops.

Where is the love for these 2 items. These are things I am very interested in, that are way over due, and that I use everyday. Not to mention they stopped shipping iWork a few days ago. I'm hoping for some MAJOR updates to iWork, that would get me very excited, especially if they were drunk enough to include it with Leopard.

Don't forget "Numbers" :)

the impresssive thing with iPhone is touch screen and integration and interaction of alll features

meanwhile,

i predict, leopard with 3D UI and 128bit and included iWork and a handsigned letter from sj
i also predict widescreen iPod...it's an iPhone without the phone or internet excatly and will sell for 299 american
also, there will be a new mac pro, x-serve, iMac and mac mini...all come with intel quad cores as standard (mac mini still has 512Mb RAM though:( )
sj will apologise for not having leopard beta discs printed, to the dismay of the crowd, but offers them each a free iPhone......eBay freezes with the bids for the one iPhone that was put up for auction
sj will also announce that due to predicted profits from iPhone, apple have bought out microsoft and have not renamed apple inc. at all to reflect this
finally, i predict that sj will do a dance on stage, to the adorations and cheers of the crowd

how do i know all of this?...because i live in australia and it's 12:30 midday monday here:p

How about this for a way to speculate?

I'm here in SF at my first WWDC (long time MS PDC attendee) and I noticed the attendee web site noted Apple's company store in Cupertino is open this week to attendees - even today (Sunday) - so I asked the registration folks if they had any shuttle to the store:

- First off, they didn't know if the store was open (the web says it is)
- Second, they said, the event store won't be open until "Tuesday"
- After she found out I meant the company store, the person behind the counter noted "well, maybe they'll bring the store to you - wink - but you didn't hear it from me."

So what does that all mean? Is there always a store at WWDC? Might they be making some hardware available to attendees only that might not be available to the general public?

- Since this is a dev conference - what if Apple sells phones to the dev community in advance so we can start building apps for the iPhone.
- Maybe we they'll have whatever new hardware they talked about available - perhaps a new 12" MPB SDD and LED?

Can anyone comment on past WWDCs?

Thanks!
See you in the morning.

I predict ......

Steve will announce:

"...because of the great work done by the Leopard team, the product will hit the stores in August (or July???) rather than October!"

Guys, iPhone Alley will have an audio feed tomorrow!

If all Steve does tomorrow is run out on stage, demo a brand-new finder, and walk off, I will be happy. But I think that in addition to demoing everything in Leopard, we will see iWork and iLife so that Steve can show developers all the cool things developers can do with core animation. I expect that very little hardware if any will be announced.

louden, my guess would have to be that attendees will be receiving a free gift under their chairs this year. Perhaps steve will demo an iPhone SDK, and then announce, "well, you need a test machine for this, so...."

So I guess we shouldn't expect anything about Mac Pro?

I wouldn't completely discount the possibility.

We still could see the addition of SS, new GPU's, more standard memory, Blu-Ray Burners, new displays, etc. Even a possible price drop.

At this stage it is hard to tell.

Man, that Apple is so hot right now. Hoping for Illuminous theme and a mid-tower Mac

Is that a Will Ferrell reference from Zoolander as in Apple = Hansel, if so haha, pretty funny. But that line always works.

So yeah i hope Leopard gets shipped out early too, but that means less time for developers to learn things and make it better when it comes out, not likely, but welcome indeed.

Ha! If that happened, I assure you there would be pure pandemonium...

Steve himself said that the iPhone "is running the full Mac OS X", which we know is Leopard.

I think he only said (and the MacWorld slide showed) "OS X", that is, no "Mac" in the name of the operating system. We may be seeing a family of "OS X" operating systems, one for different platforms.

Dude, I will bet you that they release a new 12" or so SDD LED MBP tomorrow. Other vendors are coming out with them, and Apple will not be out-classed on an ultra-portable.

Can the Leopard Change His Spots?

Call me a pessimist, but does anyone else feel like this won't be a very exciting WWDC? Especially the "secret features." I'm still skeptical about that one.
I believe you're quite wrong and I believe Steve Jobs is going to answer the ancient question (from Jer 13:23, the Holy Bible): "Can the Leopard Change His Spots?"

I think the deal will be PC software running natively without the use/need of Microsoft's OS.

But I think that in addition to demoing everything in Leopard, we will see iWork and iLife so that Steve can show developers all the cool things developers can do with core animation.

An interesting speculation. I have heard rumors that the new iLife/iWork programs were tied to Leopard, which would explain why they have been delayed so long.

Using iLife/iWork to demonstrate to programmers the power of Leopard would make sense, but I don't know if Apple would demonstrate in a public forum (since the keynote will be broadcast later) software that will not be released for several months.

Perhaps there will be demonstration of iLife/iWork in later "state of the union" presentations that will be covered by NDAs.

I have to say, based on that rumor roundup, I see little to get excited about.

Leopard: We already know it's great, we know there are a few more cool things, and we know we can't get it for months. So we get to see exactly what those little hidden features are... meh.

iphone: don't need more demos. release it already.

imacs: this would be exciting. but now they're saying we have to wait, so not time to get excited yet.

ultra-portable: see "imac."

So we're going to see... more of leopard, and a little more of the iphone? yawn. Here's hoping the rumors are wrong.
You know it's posts like these that make me crazy -- all the time we hear from people who are very anti-ipod/iphone and demand that Apple get back to their roots of the Mac and support for the Mac and here this very person mentions the LEOPARD Operating System, iMacs and Ultra-portables as if there's something wrong with these types of possible announcements.

Well -- you can believe Steve will mention the iPhone but probably not spend a lot of time on it -- probably just enough to say "hey you developers can stop worrying; we're not going to leave you out of the iPhone" and possibly show off a couple of secret new tricks they've not mentioned yet or some cool new widgets they've included. So for those not wanting to have to hear about the iPhone -- tough. It's gonna be there.

But,...

So is a lot about the new OS and probably some type of Hardware announcement(s) -- what's wrong with that?

I'm one of those ppl that dosent count the 8-core as an update.

I agree with you there. A $700 BTO option on a drop-in processor without touching the MB, Memory controller, FSB, GPU, any peripherals, or any displays seems pretty lame.

It must have been offered soley to get developers a machine for testing pre-wwdc. However, at WWDC hopefully we will see the real McCoy.

When is SS supposed to be released by Intel?

I think the deal will be PC software running natively without the use/need of Microsoft's OS.

that would be horrible, since then we would be able to get all of the viruses running natively on our Macs instead of them having to run in bootcamp/parallels.
