Yep it's been pretty obvious with all the obsession regarding the iPhone. IM waiting for Apple to be renamed to Apple iPhone Inc!
All this over a phone! It's pretty amazing! If your in the market for an iPhone then this WWDC is definitely for you!
...And I don't blame Apple for focusing their resources on the iPhone.
Apple is a business - they will do what it takes to ensure profitability and steady growth. Right now, both--profitability and growth--are in the iPhone and it's soon to be announced world-wide availability - which would mean that it could have
far more reach than any other platform in the Mac lineup. Remember, the iPod changed Apple and the iPhone is just a continuation of that change.
Think of it this way - the iPhone/iPod are the key to the Mac... if they entice and garner enough people on to their "accessory" (iPhone/iPod) lineup, they'll eventually get more people to test out their "main" (Mac) base (that's how you create growth).
Apple has never been as global as it is now, and reasons point to iPhone/iPod (right now it's mostly iPhone). The pricing points for these models are
far more lucrative, as they are reasonably
more affordable than any Mac - positioning the products (iPhone/iPod) to reach a larger base of potential customers. A simple example -- I'd rather sell 10 products for $1 as opposed to 1 product for $10 - the idea behind this is that I'd rather sacrifice some profit and grow; if more people find out about the company by word of mouth/fanfare, I'll eventually profit more - it's the law of small/large numbers. Granted I lose out on the large potential profit by selling 1 item, but by selling 10 - I reach more people and I get more awareness amongst those very people.
iPhone/iPod sales have led to more Apple awareness on a worldwide scale. That coupled with the fact that mobile phones are having explosive growth (especially smartphones) - and voila, it's no wonder they allocate most of their resources to the iPhone.
