If (when) the 3G iPhone is released on June 9th at WWDC, will it be available immediately?

I've heard some speculation that it wouldn't be immediately available, but I can't really see that. Apple hasn't had a phone available for purchase for almost a month now. It would seem like they would have to be available, if not on june 9th, then within the following week.

Yeh i no but those boxes that way 20kg each can't be anything else that seams plausible!! they might not launch it at WWDC but they will launch them soon cause they are really behind the market on displays and it has been a while since the last update:)

I think it is more likely retail displays for iPhone 2 for Apple Stores. Have you seen those large displays with rims around them which pose as humungous iPhone 1.0's?

I know there is going to be live blogging but is there a way to watch it live yourself or do you have to wait until later for Apple to post the video on iTunes?

Seem like everyone forget that Cinema Display is long over due?

I want the ACD to have all the goodies my new Dell 2408FPW does (which is why I bought it instead of the ACD), but honestly, with Apple not having released any content - or support for content - that requires HDCP and having not added HDMI or DisplayPort to their machines, the ACD remains perfect for folks who do color work and still looks very good for folks doing video work (since the S-IPS gives up some black level and contrast to the S-PVA panel in exchange for superior color definition).

As such, I can see why Apple has not seen a need to update it in forever and a day.

O2 pay as you go iPhone

I hear the iPhone in the UK could be on pay as you go, which will be great for me, as I generally use pay as you go, as I don't use a mobile phone enough, to justify paying a fixed fee every month.

I just wonder how the 3G access would work on pay as you go, as I will probably cost you so much to use it.

Do you normally get 3G phones on pay as you go?

I go here http://www.apple.com/quicktime/guide/appleevents/ but sadly, it's not live either, and have to wait a few hours after the keynote, for Apple to put it up :(

I try to not read any news about the keynote, and what Apple have announced, and wait & watch the keynote, but most of the time, waiting is to hard.

I wish there was a live camera feed as well :(

Aww, WWDC. So close, but yet so far away! Do y'all remember when this damn widget first came out and it was like 30 or 40 days away??? Man, how does time fly!!

I can't wait to be able to purchase my 3G iPhone (hopfully next week before I leave for vacation on Wednesday)!!!!

And it's so ironic, I live in Greenville, SC, and we've never had 3G before last week. My BlackJack just all of a sudden started showing 3G and I was like

Perfect timing, if I do say so myself...

No Macbook / MacBook Pro mention?? :(

Not even a Mac hardware mention whatsoever.... :(

...I fear this may be a boring and unimpressive WWDC for non-iPhone users...

Yep it's been pretty obvious with all the obsession regarding the iPhone. IM waiting for Apple to be renamed to Apple iPhone Inc!

All this over a phone! It's pretty amazing! If your in the market for an iPhone then this WWDC is definitely for you! ;)

ugh, Apple focuses way too much on the iPhone now-a-days. Really annoying, they are really forgetting their computer market in my opinion.

I was hoping for new Macbook Pros (and no its not unusual, 3-4 months between updates have been done 3 times before in the past 6 years)

Apple apple apple, what is going on? Your Mac-fan-base is finally growing and you switch over to another product. And now perhaps EVEN ANOTHER product (tablet)

You seem to forget that they are hard at work on Leopard. They just released 10.5.3, and less than a week later they seeded a beta 10.5.4. Besides this event (presumably), they haven't really been focusing on the iPhone anymore than anything else, except to maybe just get ready for WWDC (we hope).

Right now there is nothing worthy to update the laptop line with. They mine as well say new MacBook Pro. It's the same one as before, but I, Steve Jobs, says it's new. It will even have a shiny --new-- tag on the box. :p

Don't worry about Apple. They know what they are doing, and if they don't, well they have some time to work out what they are doing wrong.

two bridges going to two different places....

think "SURPRISE!"

Yeah, you know, that has to mean something. Could it be iPhone meets Mac and we finally have our Tablet? That seems like it would parallel very well with the .Mac rename of Mobile Me.

I think you have it backwards. It's two bridges, both in the background (iPhone) and (Computer) going to the same place (.Mac/.Me.) in the foreground. There is no "surprise," its plainly representing total "convergence."

I like that way of thinking. It sounds good, and it would work well. However, I think it would be less cryptic and atleast have them converge at the end. Good thinking though.

...And I don't blame Apple for focusing their resources on the iPhone.

Apple is a business - they will do what it takes to ensure profitability and steady growth. Right now, both--profitability and growth--are in the iPhone and it's soon to be announced world-wide availability - which would mean that it could have far more reach than any other platform in the Mac lineup. Remember, the iPod changed Apple and the iPhone is just a continuation of that change.

Think of it this way - the iPhone/iPod are the key to the Mac... if they entice and garner enough people on to their "accessory" (iPhone/iPod) lineup, they'll eventually get more people to test out their "main" (Mac) base (that's how you create growth).

Apple has never been as global as it is now, and reasons point to iPhone/iPod (right now it's mostly iPhone). The pricing points for these models are far more lucrative, as they are reasonably more affordable than any Mac - positioning the products (iPhone/iPod) to reach a larger base of potential customers. A simple example -- I'd rather sell 10 products for $1 as opposed to 1 product for $10 - the idea behind this is that I'd rather sacrifice some profit and grow; if more people find out about the company by word of mouth/fanfare, I'll eventually profit more - it's the law of small/large numbers. Granted I lose out on the large potential profit by selling 1 item, but by selling 10 - I reach more people and I get more awareness amongst those very people.

iPhone/iPod sales have led to more Apple awareness on a worldwide scale. That coupled with the fact that mobile phones are having explosive growth (especially smartphones) - and voila, it's no wonder they allocate most of their resources to the iPhone.

Does anyone think the new iphone will be on sale on the 9th..

Or is Apple just going to announce it and it won't be on sale until end of June beginning of July..

Well, at the very least, we all hope for an immediate release date.

Apple will want to build as much hype as they possibly can ... I expect if there is going to be an 'iPhone' announcement at WWDC,
and I say if, then I expect it to be just that, an 'announcement', with availability to come roughly 2 weeks on Tuesday 9th.
(end of June .. if you like).

This way the media will go crazy, as will everyone else, the iPhone will have main-stream attention, and ensure
MAXIMUM sales on launch day.

People who don't follow Apple, or WWDC, wouldn't necessarily know a new iPhone is rumored/or if it has been announced,
it will take a while for them to find out. Letting the media take a hold means iPhone get attention straight after the keynote, worldwide.

Possibly, but with almost no iPhone sales in about a month, you would think they want those bad boys released as soon as possible.
