This is the first iPhone 2 year refresh to feature the same screen as the previous model. This has not happened before.

The screen on the iPhone now is completely outdated. In public when my friends pull out their latest Samsung phones, its a night and day difference. The Samsung screen pops and is so bright at its brightest and so dark at its darkest - amazing contrast ratio. It has full deep blacks.

It is also understood that the 2017 or 2018 iPhone will have the redesign that I am looking for. This means at least for 3 years people would have had the same screen in which time Samsung's screen will get considerably better.

This is poor, the new iPhone normally is an automatic purchase for me but I must make a point by not purchasing. iPhone 6s sales were low compared to previous sales according to reports and this iteration will be even worse.

The other design fault are the bezels. Previously they were not an issue for me however all the competitor devices have small bezels above and below and Apple are now behind with thick bezels. Take my iPhone 6 plus 128gb, the recent Galaxy Note 4 has a larger screen size 5.7" whilst the overall phone is smaller than my phone.

The other so called "upgrades" are not enough to warrant a very expensive new iPhone 128gb plus version purchase. Better camera, no headphone, water resistance, slightly faster operationg (my current phone's performance is satisfactory with apps like facebook and chrome youtube etc).

Had I not been somewhat dependent on the iOS-MacOS ecosystem, or hypothetically speaking iOS were available on a Samsung device, I would have purchased the Samsung device no questions.

Without doubt, this iteration is the laziest and poorest iPhone release from Apple.

I dont think the screen of the iPhone is outdated, actually it's one of the best LCD screens out there. You are comparing two different screen technologies and they both have pros and cons. if rumors are true, the iPhone 7 wont have the same screen as the iPhone 6 series. It will be enhanced with a couple of technologies found on the iPad PRO.

Actually it's the best iPhone ever..

New screen isn't everything. We can all look forward to that next year but what the phone does matters more.

The new true tone display could be a game changer on the new iPhone

Well you might think the iPhone screen is not outdated but compare it to the latest Samsung screens. Apple also think the screen is outdated and this is why they are planning an OLED screen iPhone release in the future.

The couple of technologies you mention are nothing as I've seen the iPad Pro, it won't give it super contrast ratios, wont give the brightness, won't make images pop and have the deepest blacks which are completely dark.

You know what else pops on their Samsung phones? Their batteries... Hence why Samsung has recalled every one of their 'latest' phones (being the Note 7)...

Couldn't resist :)

We all will.

These new iPhones are going to be incredible. It's just some MR members are in denial at the moment, and trying to convince themselves they won't be upgrading before the event totally blows them away.

You really can't speak for everyone. I passed on the 6s, and while I'm reserving final judgment on the 7 until it's revealed, there's a good chance that I will pass on it as well. I don't need a new phone every year or even every two years just because it's the latest model. Not if my current phone is still performing well and meeting my needs.

Well technically not true. iPhone 2G/3G/3GS all had the same screen. Also, you are whining about a phone that has not been announced. For all you know all the leaks of the iPhone 7 are completely fake to throw people off.

While I hate that the iPhone 6s has a 750p display, let's just wait until we see the actual screen in the iPhone 7 before we judge ;)

I'm not worried about resolution.

The number Apple originally quoted for Retina display, the current resolutions exceed that which means according to their own research any bump up in resolution will not be noticeable to human eyes.

You can test this yourself on an iPhone plus model go to youtube and select 1080p and then watch the same scene at 720p. Barely any improvement. And will be less so on the non plus model.

I was talking about the refresh cycle of s and non s models.

Also the 2g era is not relevant because there was no competition and Apple were so far ahead.

Now it is different and they are behind.

A bump to 1080p wouldn't make the pixels any less noticeable, but it would help make the screen look sharper. I've seen both the 6s and 6s Plus's screens, and I can tell the 6s Plus's is a bit better. Not by much, but I still care about that extra sharpness.

Yup. Same thing every year. "Worst iPhone ever, this is when I finally switch to [whatever], Apple died with Steve..." yada yada yada. Two weeks later they're back here trying to use their order number to get their tracking info.

I made a thread about you once : https://forums.macrumors.com/threads/iphone-se-best-or-worst-iphone-ever.1967243/

Some people here sound like, the iPhone has a 320x240 monochrome display! :D
What do you do with your phone, that you need a 4K screen and "poping" colors? For me, the only thing they could/should really improve is visibility in bright sunlight.

I'm buying the iPhone 7 and I tell you this: indeed the screen is the thing I'll miss most when I switch. I have a note 4. To be fair they use different technology so can't really compare. But the black on Samsung phone is fantastic. Color also pops out more. The resolution doesn't bother me tho. I think 1080p is fine.
