This year has been the most underwhelming year since, well, since 2016, when it was supposed to have been the most spectacular. Whether we are fans of the 8/8 Plus or the X, it is in all of our interests for iPhone sales to take a dive this year, even X sales. And I mean a significant and sustained drop in sales, lasting into 2018 and 2019. Stock prices are down since the keynote and if iPhone sales stay down these next 2years, because let's face it, the 2018 iPhone will be just as underwhelming, it will force Apple to rethink what it serves up in future iterations, rather than treating us all like the suckers that they think we are. Apple will be forced to become an innovative company once again. Here's hoping, for all of our iPhone-interests' sakes, for you, for me, for every iPhone user out there, that Apple takes a massive hit this year. That is the only message Tim Cook will hear loud and clear.

apple sold 41 million iphones the quarter before the new release. Apple are not struggling and they will sell out every single iphone x they make. They will still be miles ahead of units sold compared to the comp. the 8 and 8 plus will sell if it comes to the point where the x is too hard to get. People are waiting to see how hard it will be to get the x.

But you don't get it. If they continue to sell 41 millions iphones, that's bad for you, because Apple will continue to releae substandard products relative to what they once produced and charge you more for the inconvenience. You missed my point...it is in YOUR best interests that sales drop away, because it will force them to lift their game and charge a reasonable price in the process.

You don't think they have made good progess with the iphone x? I fail to see prices getting any better. The note 8 for one here is £869 and the pixel 2 will likely be at least 800-900 as well I'm guessing. So really price wise I don't see much changing

I have been wondering since release if this form factor design was Steve Jobs last design and that’s why they have kept it this long. That could be why the X was announced as the NEXT revolution as it may be the first post Jobs device.

Lol at thinking Apple gives a single poop emoji about paying homage to Steve Jobs.

Keep in mind the apple watch 3 and new 4k apple tv released yesterday too, adding to whatever lines people saw.

I upgraded from a 6 to an 8 and its night/day for me. This phone is outstanding.

For those of us who dont upgrade every year its a new phone.

Exactly. My 8 feels like a definite upgrade from my launch day 6S. I don’t upgrade every year, rather every two years, so it’s a bigger deal for me.

Personally I think the 8 is more of an upgrade than when the 7 was released: all Apple did on the 7 was move the antenna bands and remove the headphone jack. Big deal. Wasn’t enough of a change from my 6S, so guess what, I didn’t upgrade. Did I bitch and slag off the 7? Nope. Seems everyone is quick to rubbish the 8 to justify their own choices.

I think there are a lot of people like me locked with indecision on which iPhone to get since the line up is so confusing. I don’t want to be a sheep and let Apple get away with charging $1000 for the baseline model of a new design, but the look of the 6/7/8 series is now feeling outdated.

I have a 7 Plus (well now the wife has it) and an 8 Plus and to me it is definitely a big upgrade from 7 to 8.....

the 8 is a much more refined phone with tons of new features.

Yea the AT&T store and Verizon store were empty and not a lot of people waiting before they opened like years past.

For me the 8 is blah and not excited. I always upgrade to the latest and greatest but this time I’m getting an Apple Watch 3 w/cellular.
It's because people have learned the following:
1. Don't preorder or count on carriers to have good stock
2. Preorder from Apple and get it shipped to your store or do in store pickup
3. If all else fails stop by an Apple Store.

Obviously best is yet to come, but today just hasn’t felt like a new iPhone release day.

That’s because the iP 8 isn’t the flagship. IPhone buyers, more so than Android, want the best available. As you say, best is yet to come. People want to see the X before making a commitment to any new iPhone. My guess is 8 will make a comeback if the X is released but not obtainable in the foreseeable future. The 8 is a good phone. It just doesn’t have the sexy feel an all-new model does. It’s more familiar. The 8 is Kate Upton. The X is Karlie Kloss.

My point was not that they were paying homage to Steve Jobs or you would have the Steve Jobs edition. People keep saying the design is old....I disagree, I have liked this form factor. Nobody complains about the form factor of the Macbook which has been pretty much the same for all versions for many years....why? Because there is only so much you could do with a flat piece of glass and metal on the phone like there is only so much you could do with a foldable screen and keyboard.

I don’t think it’s the worst release but there is only so much tech and design you can do in each interation.
If people think this is bad, wait for 2018, 2019 and 2020. Apple have laid out their stall now - the X is the next design, so all iPhone releases for the next 3 years at least will be minor upgrades.

I feel the same about my upgrade from the 6 to the 8+

I didn’t mind the lack of crowds, it made for a much nicer buying experience.

So, how are you liking you new phone. The plus is a little large to begin with but the keyboard and extra real estate becomes familiar quickly. Loving my 8+ for sure. Have a good weekend.

It felt huge at first but I’m getting used to that. It’s a lot faster (obviously), the camera is impressive and I’m loving the big screen.

Really happy with it so far.

I walked into my local Apple Store this afternoon and upgraded my wife's phone from an SE to an 8. We have "plenty" in stock is what I was told. Apple TV's and some models of the Apple Watch v3 were also in stock.

You will love the cameras. You will get used to the extra size in no time. The new processor make it feel faster than even my 7+. Enjoy
