There we go, see it's not that hard is it?Practice what you preach buddy.

Lol i'm sorry you "Punctuation Nazi". It's late not the best time to post on a forum. I also am at a loss for using punctuation after seeing The hangover.
Funny movie but not the best motivator to use punctuation correctly.

actually it was punctuation that i was specifically referring to.

No, but i'd love it if Apple made it compatible with the bluetooth keyboard.
It would be nice to have a full size keyboard that I could take to hotels etc to write emails back to the Boss's back home.

If a small keyboard was made available i would just pass as it wouldn't be any more usable then the landscape keyboard.

im in highschool, everybody txts in class. hell, I text my mom in class all the time.sometimes there is important stuff that i have to talk about with people.

I'm sorry, but that made me laugh. There may be the odd time that you do need to talk to someone (the situation with your mum is one example) however, unless someone is dying, the vast majority of the time it can wait until the end of class (as someone else observed, your mum could have waited).

Large corporations can afford switching. Let's talk about smaller businesses and federal and state agencies that have BB users and have to watch every cent they spend. Changing servers and buying new phones isn't exactly a cost-effective measure to take just to switch people to iPhones.

Agreed. My dad works for the civil service, they all have BBs (and generally the cheapest BBs that'll still get the job done). My mum's also a businesswoman with a worldwide corporation, they all use BBs with no apparent plans to change.

On the keyboard front, I touch type on my iPhone and I type faster than any other phone I've ever owned. I send about 2000 texts a month, if you're sending 7,500 shouldn't you be able to touch type as well?

I wouldn't buy a keyboard attachment. I'm really not a fan of QWERTY keys anyway, the buttons are too damn small.

I laughed, too. It's funny how the OP needed to text their mother in class, not on the way to school or before class or even right when he/she changed the code, but during class.

Yeah, I was lucky enough to get a BB Bold. Most people at work have used ones that were passed down from bosses. Gotta love office politics.

The only thing I don't like about the onscreen keyboard is it is too hard to type without looking as one poster already said, though not just for texting at school :p

I almost always text without looking on my current phone with a physical keyboard, for example when walking down the street as I don't want to walk into people :p

However the advantages of the onscreen keyboard I am used to on my iPod touch (and iPhone when I can afford one) far outweigh the disadvantage of not being able to text without looking.

sometimes it can be important i agree it usually can wait
the best for me was when i was using logmein to control my moms computer from school it was a good joke

also i would like to say one thing passcode lock ftw if someone takes your phone they cant get into it so once again passcode lock ftw

have you ever used a blackberry bold? i year guarantee that nobody with an iphone can type faster than me on a blackberry bold. i have an iphone and thats the only thing i miss.

Yes, in fact I had a BlackBerry Bold for a little over a month. The fact that the iPhone has auto-correct does it for me, and it makes it extremely easy to type as fast as I'm humanly capable of doing. Unfortunately, I can't type as fast as I want to on 3.0 because it sucks on the 3G (laggy) but when I was on 2.2.1, I could type way faster.

The keys on the Bold really slowed me down, but yeah.. I went back to the iPhone not cause of the keys but because the iPhone > Bold. :)

That looks awesome. I would buy it in a heartbeat...especially if you could use some keys as a directional pad for video games.

(as someone else observed, your mum could have waited).

yeah but it would have been an hour and a half, in the rain.

i would say that the majority of time that i txt in class it is to my Mom, Sister, Dad, or Grandma.

i know this is how my mom looks at it, as do i, if I was a parent i feel i should be able to communicate with my child however and whenever i want( txt call etc.) and the school should not be able to dictate when my child will be able to do that.

Wow... that's somewhat unbelievable.

My parents would want their children to focus on learning and get some education during school hour, rather than distract them with text msgs DURING class.

How are your grades?

No... but I would jump at the chance to buy a plus pad a 4 button add on. Imagine it. The iPhone fits into a shell that adds a plus pad to the left of the phone and 4 buttons to the right. That mixed with the accelerometer and compass would provide truly awesome game play.

Love the virtual keyboard so no. I've tried Blackberries and the physical keyboards kill my thumbs. I'll stick with the virtual keyboard thank you.

why is everyone in this thread so smug and fanboyish?

if steve jobs announced tomorrow a new iphone with a slider keyboard everyone would be like OMFG DATS AWESUM APPLE IS SO INNOVATIVE AGAIN!

seriously a physical keyboard addon would sell so many more iphones. they need to make one asap.

The whole success to the iPhone is the touch screen, if you want a keyboard that means you need something else.
Here's what you want:

When I was using the Palm Pilot, I found a nice clamshell keyboard that was very useful.

This is the one that I had:

I much preferred this type over the folding type since it was more sturdy and I could not only type faster but could use it on uneven surfaces such as while lying on a bed or using it on my lap.

I would like something like this for the iPhone. It would come in handy when traveling to the point that I could probably not carry my laptop which would be nice.

Yeah I would love a device like this available. I am totally against the built in hamster keyboards, but devices like this are actually useful for times when you want to be able to type faster. Slide out keyboards just add weight and size to a device with little to no actual benefit.

Physical keyboards on small mobile devices are stupid. they will always be stupid.

wow that tells me a lot.
1st off tell me right off the bat that you nor your mom values education because if so they would not contact you while in school. But time and time again SCHOOL is not the place for texting.

Also the school SHOULD be able to dictate when one parent can communicate with one child. If one wants it another way there is this thing call home schooling. Or a private school. Other wise you have to play by the rules in place.

Also your texting does distract the other students. That much I can tell you from experiences is people text while I was in class it woudl distract me a little from learning and bother me. So now you are distracting some one else right to learn as well.

how is txting loud? people do not notice! its not loud enough for the people next to me to hear so how would anyone else hear it.

ONCE AGAIN, YOU DON'T KNOW ME (OR MY MOM) AND I DO VALUE EDUCATION VERY MUCH! IF I DIDN'T I WOULDNT GO TO SCHOOL AND I WOULDN'T HAVE STRAIGHT A's. DONT JUDGE ME!

texting is not distracting to others during class.its distracting to creepy kids though who want to see what/who your texting. school can dictate all they want thats not going to stop me and many others. Wow just because he texts his mom in class doesnt mean anything. texting/emailing in class takes away only a few minutes. i'm more likely to email my mom though since its quicker and doesnt take as long. you have to be a complete idiot to do bad in a class just because you text/email. this isnt any worse than talking to someone/passing notes.

lmao what a ridiculous post. Who the hell are you to sit on your high horse and tell someone they don't value education?
