Didn't say 5 with a bad "e" key, said I have had a few issues with this one as well, including an unresponsive "e" key.
Well hopefully I struck gold today and this one will be perfect until the next MBP is released.

The MBP price is a significant issue, I must admit. When I compare to a 17" Lenovo laptop (with a great selection of ports) for around $1400...

...it definitely gives me pause. But having choices is good.

To be fair, the Lenovo P72 isn't an ultrabook so it isn't a 1:1 (or at least as close as you can get with the OS differences at play) as you'll have a larger, heavier, and thicker machine. The Lenovo X1 line is more comparable to the MBP as a powerful ultrabook class machine.

The more size and weight you take on the cheaper the price gets on the Windows side (excluding gamer machines which merge high price with high weight and thickness).

I would say the X1 Extreme is a closer approximation and more of an apples to apples comparison then the P72 which houses a workstation GPU.

The X1E with current incentives has the base 4k model priced at 2,083 where as a similar equipped MBP 3,150.

That one was so funny. Such a crisis on the forums, but in real life it was a giant nothing burger. Never had a single problem with that phone. One of the best Apple put out. Ever. I still have one today. Never dropped a call. No real life person I've ever met had a problem with the phone. But people screamed on the forums like it was the end of the world. Never buy products based on forums like this. People love to complain, but real life is massively different.
My brother in law still uses my mine today never had a problem

I think the 512 15” MacBook with 560X is comparable and currently priced at $2399 on Amazon. Only 16GB of RAM, though. I went a step down from the X1E’s 8850H 32GB of RAM to the 8750H 555X MacBook w/ 16GB of RAM, which I got for $2118 after tax, but I’m getting better performance in Photoshop and Luminar. *shrugs* The X1E is a great laptop, but it’s not cheap either.

I got the standard 2018 15 with 16 GB of ram, 2.6 Ghz 17, Radeon 560x, 512 GB SSD.

I got the same, it’s actually an ideal computer for my use (go pro editing).

I think that those who are willing to use the machine, and not obsess about what “might” happen, or what dinosaur peripherals they don’t have ports for, will find it to be a great tool.

My work supplied machine is a fairly high end HP (elitebook 840 G5), it’s got slightly less specs, but it’s a nice machine that costs about $2,000 from what I can see. While it feels much higher end durability wise, and performs better than most windows systems I’ve used; it’s still that same old PITA. I just can’t get used to windows or over MacOS I suppose.

Day 2. Everything is still great. I have even been hunting for all the issues I have heard about with these machines. One particular post on here, this one: https://forums.macrumors.com/threads/macbook-pro-2018-speakers-crackling.2128234/ I really tried to get my machine to exhibit the issue and it does not. Which is strange considering one of the last posts on that very long thread claims that "ALL" 2018 MBPs do it... ;)

I wouldn't start "trying" to create problems - these machines have a knack for doing that themselves over time.
;)

Probably not. We're in the mid-product cycle of the 2018 MBP. If I needed a brand new MBP, I would wait until the next refresh.
With no fear of all new issues if they release a gen 1 model?

We shall see. I do plan on continuing to share my experience and findings. Let's call is a mini MBP documentary. As far as hunting for bugs, I like to do this. I want to see if the people claiming that ALL machines do X is true or overblown hype. The thread I just mentioned is very long and very convincing, and yet I cannot get my machine to exhibit said audio glitch.

I don't know why people don't think a redesign may be coming..

It's a 3 year old design that has had more problems than I'm sure Apple would like (there's a reason they've kept mucking around internally to try to quell the KB issues..)

They are just slow with their timetables and I wouldn't be surprised at all if they pushed up a body refresh in the plans as early as 2 years ago (as it takes them that long to get to a released product).

Those 16" rumors tell me that there is some kind of new design coming to the MB lineup.
If the screen sizes are changing, even if just a little, it's indicative of a fresh look at many others aspects at the same time.

If it makes any difference, my current machine I picked up during the extended holiday return period. That and the launch of the military store were what drew me back in to give it another try. I had no issues for the first 2.5 months, so not sure the day by day will be much of an indication of future reliability.

Thought I have never had the audio glitch or if I have I didn’t notice and/or didn’t care.

I’m only a forum guy, but my 4 was unusable at times without a case because of the antenna problem. No problems with the 4s.

I upgrade from my 2012 MBP to a new one last month. I got the MBP 15", 512gb, 16GB RAM.

NOT ONE SINGLE ISSUE. I use this MBP about 10 - 12 hours every single day. Mon - Sun.

I also bought a new Mac this year and haven't had one issue at all. I bought an Apple Refurbished Model for an insane value with the following specs of 2018 15" MBP with 2.6 i7, 32 RAM, 512 SSD, Vega 20 which retails for $3,549 +tax, and I got mine for $2,717 tax INCLUDED so I saved about $1,000 off the retail price. I personally think the price savings is worth the "risk" since I can easily sell this machine and get all my money back. I would absolutely feel comfortable buying a 2018 model though. There is no guarantee that the 2019 models are a redesign and also there is no guarantee then 2019 models makes all of the fixes people want and there is always something better year after year so that's why I jumped on the 2018 train with the massive savings. Just my 2 cents.

Yes, you and maflynn bring up a valid point. I should clarify that I used the P72 as an example because I am attracted by a 17" screen, the huge selection of ports, the solid specs, and the great keyboard all for less than $1500. So it was more me saying, "if I was looking for a Windows laptop as an alternative, this is one that would tempt me big time."
