I also bought a new Mac this year and haven't had one issue at all. I bought an Apple Refurbished Model for an insane value with the following specs of 2018 15" MBP with 2.6 i7, 32 RAM, 512 SSD, Vega 20 which retails for $3,549 +tax, and I got mine for $2,717 tax INCLUDED so I saved about $1,000 off the retail price. I personally think the price savings is worth the "risk" since I can easily sell this machine and get all my money back. I would absolutely feel comfortable buying a 2018 model though. There is no guarantee that the 2019 models are a redesign and also there is no guarantee then 2019 models makes all of the fixes people want and there is always something better year after year so that's why I jumped on the 2018 train with the massive savings. Just my 2 cents.
Good to hear.

if you would've asked me this question 10 years ago I would've said yes. Even 5 years ago I still would have said yes.
But in 2019? No. Too many hardware issues. I refuse to buy a machine that could have hardware fail at any moment and has software issues. That's why I'm going to be buying a Lenovo X1 soon.

Would you miss the apple osx and ipad convenience?

I haven't bought an iPad since the 2nd gen, and I haven't bought an iPhone since the 5S. (5s battery was wrecked so it's not in use) I'm not really in the Apple ecosystem. And for what I absolutely need OS X for I have machines that can already do it.

I use iPhone, but mainly because I use Mac. If I were a windows guy, I’d probably have experimented with Android by now. I’m not overly married to the iPhone at all as an ecosystem.

And I’ve got one of the OG iPad pro’s, and have since 2017, but I’d bet I’ve used it for less than 10hrs total in that time. It usually sits in a drawer. I sold my 2011 MBP to get it. But I never got used to the thing, and it wasn’t as much of a laptop replacement when I was a student like I thought it would be. It certainly isn’t now that I’m trying to get more into video.

I think once Apple introduces a proper file system to the iPad it will be much more of a "replacement" device for real computers. That and input device support would be nice. Let us use trackpads and mice.

Input device support is a huge problem for me with the iPads and using them more

I would really love to see optional mouse and trackpad support even if it were buried in an accessibility setting.

Correct. That and XCode / generic IDE support and my MBP looks kinda obsolete. Oh, wait... that'd look a whole lot like the fabled Armbook...

This.
2015 is a proper beautiful machine for work.
2018 is a luxurious toy that you are supposed to keep in a hospital-level clean room, and may God have mercy upon you if any dust particles make it to the keyboard.
Sorry, I’m simply not buying this level of hyperbole.

Facts are it was the first laptop in the history of the world where the company would advertise buying compressed air to fix the keys as the official solution. Sad, but true.
Show me Apple’s advertisements for buying compressed air.

Are you telling me that a laptop manufacturer recommended using a product designed to clean laptop keyboards?

We must alert the village elders...

Ha ha ha. Advertisement? You said, and he asked for, an advertisement. Not a link to a customer support page.

If that’s what you’re holding up, I’ll gladly point out that every other manufacturer has this type of thing on their support pages too.

https://www.dell.com/support/articl...ve-a-key-on-your-dell-laptop-keyboard?lang=en

https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/help/4023504/surface-clean-and-care-for-your-surface

I could go on, but I think you get the picture.

Now head on over to the Microsoft forum and commence trashing your surface book because Microsoft recommends you care for their product to keep it in working order.

I'd buy the 2015. (I consider it to be the epitome of MacBook Pro designs)
But perhaps that's just me.

I think his point was that Apple never designed themselves down to this level before on their own products.

The regression on Apple's part is the disappointing part.

I legitimately think he’s complaining that Apple recommended he use compressed air to clean the keyboard.

That’s the way it seems to me anyway.

As an owner of Surface Books for the last three years, I can tell you that it has its own share of issues. The first gen had severe issues with power management, up to the point that Consumer Reports wouldn't recommend the laptops. It took Microsoft almost 18 months to fix these issues.
The second gen Surface Book is plagued by issues with the Intel graphics card, bad reliability when changing modes (tablet to desktop and vice versa), and software issues when installing firmware upgrades. I am not saying that everyone experienced these issues, but they were widespread. Just have a look at the various discussion forums.
