This is a spinoff the the thread where John Gruber about the next iPhone at a price point starting at $1500.
Let's say Apple starts the iPhone 8 at $1500, would you buy? I don't want to give a sample set of specs or anything, but let's just assume it's a new design, starts out at high storage (no 32 or 64 even), and has more bells and whistles than the iPhone 7s/7s Plus. I'm only putting 2 poll options, if you aren't sure if you'd buy it or not then just don't vote I guess. I just want to see what % of the population would buy it at this price or completely ignore it because of the price.
Yes but you don't have to buy those extras. The pencil is not essential and neither is a caseSo, the new article reads that 64gb on the iPhone 8 could be 999 without tax or accessories. I know I'm going to want the 256gb version which could go up to 1296. With an 70 case, possible pencil, and tax that is now pushing the new iPhone up past 1500.
My last iPhone 6 was 499. With a case and tax it came to approximately 650. I've had it for 3ish years and am now considering keeping for another couple (until the price drops on the iPhone 8).
I think the iPhone 8 might have gotten to cost prohibitive for me.
I LOVE Apple products but I seriously don't know about this ask...
No, I won't. I just bought a new iPad Pro with accessories that came out to 1200. I seriously can't believe it is going to be 1500 for a new iPhone 8 and it is looking more and more like that.

In retrospect, I think it depends. If an iPhone is your primary means of computing and it is a very personal device that you may use when commuting then 1500 bucks might be acceptable to some. A lot of people pay that kind of money for computers still and may get less use from the computer or laptop. It's hard to say for everybody but certainly my iphone purchasing ceiling was and still is 200 bucks.
I will get 10 times more things done in the same amount of time from a laptop that is half the price and half the speed.
You'd need big pockets, though.![]()
I would pay $1500 in a second without even thinking twice.
