I realize $1500 is alot. But it's only a lot because you can get a similar product for cheaper. For what it actually does, it's not bad. We spend tens of thousands on vehicles that we spend a couple hours per day max in, thousands on a TV that we look at a couple hours per day, thousands on other luxury items like watches, handbags, and so on. I use my phone more than anything I own so it's actually a good value at today's prices compared to what we pay for other stuff.

Heh, I'm cheap when it comes to all those stuff you mentioned. :p

I most likely would pay that for the iPhone 8 or whatever Apple decide to call it. It may well be like the Ceramic edition of the Apple Watch, a higher end version. I'm in the UK so the price would most likely be around £1200 but year I would pay that for it.

Absolutely not. I'd rather spend that money on travel or save it. I have no issue either holding on to my current devices or just upgrading to the 7s (unless Apple somehow jacks the price up for that, too).

It's funny how some of the comments in this thread seem to be angled at Apple hate for a $1500 phone....that no one even knows is real or not.

There's no need to argue or complain about Apple or about pricing for a device that's purely conjecture.

NOW with that out of the way I'll mention two things, were this unicorn $1500 iPhone a reality:

- iOS. Say what you want, I've used Android and I've used Google and utterly and completely detest both. I don't like the way the screen is laid out, I don't like the minor animations...I just plain don't like the way the device operates. On top of that, Google as a company is one of the most detestable corporations on the planet.

The audio difference between the Android and 7+ actual makes sense, the same stereo recording for the party video is the same stereo that's recording the tic tacs; but I'm an audio nut anyway - when I first read they removed the audio jack I was upset, then realized the audio signal is stronger (thus, generally better) from the power source anyway. I changed my mind on that front, plus I never charge and listen at the same time anyway.

The camera quality is very nice to know - I take pictures constantly with my phone. :)
What is detestable about Google? I don't know much about them. I use Google Photos among other options to backup my photos. And Gmail. But not the Gmail app which I hate.

Anyway about the audio, I wish I knew what Samsung changed. Or maybe my S8+ is just not set up well. When I recorded speeches or presentations given up on a stage using my S7 or S7 Edge, the audience sounds weren't so overwhelming. I got the best audio out of those phones.

The S8+ made a hot mess out of the recording of my kid's graduation speech. Fortunately a pro was there to make a recording I can buy. I regret now not using my iPhone 7 Plus and my Shure stereo microphone. On the S8+ it was hard to hear the speeches but the audience noise was amplified. It was the complete opposite of the results I'd been getting from my older Samsungs.

I like my Samsungs but the problem is that I've noticed you can have a really wide variance in build quality among the same model.

My HTC 10 cost about $350 on steep discount if I remember correctly. It is an excellent phone in so many ways but it does also tend to overheat a lot and there were some user interface issues I didn't like. But where they really cut corners in a way I consider idiotic for a company's flagship is that they failed to put any kind of oleophobic coating on the camera lens. That. Drove. Me. Nuts. I cant rant enough on what a pain in the butt it is to have to wipe down the lens every time I wanted to take a picture. I could not keep it clean. Even on an S8+ with a fingerprint sensor insanely located right next to the frigging camera l don't have to do that.

I don't regret at all going over to Android phones. I appreciate the larger perspective I got doing that. I was getting very jaded with Apple for awhile. But broadening my perspective has made me appreciate a bit that Apple does still do a fine job making phones, despite all the talk of them falling behind the Android manufacturers. What's going on in the Android world is quite flashy and impressive and often innovative. Apple would do well to step up their game. But Apple is still the one to beat.

No.
It's not so much about affordability, but what I do with it. I use my phone to check my email, listen to music, podcasts, messenger, messages/phone, notes, reddit, calendar, camera, audible, converting units of measurement, scanning pdfs, tracking my steps, jogs/cycling/skiing, maps, banking apps and checking the weather.

Frankly my iPhone SE is more than adequate for these tasks, as was my 6, 5S, 4S and 2G before that (for their time). I plan on upgrading, but might even settle on the regular 7, deals on previous generation iPhones usually start to pop up a few weeks before the announcements of the latest generations. All I really want is more storage and a brighter display, the 7 is more than enough for that but I'll probably hold of and see how the 8 is priced. The latest and greatest would be fun to have, but for $1500? No, whatever the iPhone 8 has can't possibly be worth that much (but I have been wrong before).

No.

For me, the only two features that keep me with Apple are iMessage and FaceTime and android has alternatives for both.

I prefer iOS over android, but if the price was that high, I'd either stick with my 7 or get an S8.

Yes, the iPhone 8 will be an edition that's aimed at those of us who are willing to pay more much like the Ceramic edition of the Apple Watch that starts at £1,299.

You might be onto something. Often these statements aren't universal but in some segment contain truisms about them. It's just not clear until the full position is disclosed.

I think it's why Apple will also be releasing the 7s and 7s Plus, which are also rumoured to be having new features like wireless charging and also the new design of all glass. The step up from that is the iPhone 8 or iPhone Anniversary Edition maybe it's not the 8 but a way for them to celebrate the 10th anniversary of the iPhone.

This is a spinoff the the thread where John Gruber about the next iPhone at a price point starting at $1500.

Let's say Apple starts the iPhone 8 at $1500, would you buy? I don't want to give a sample set of specs or anything, but let's just assume it's a new design, starts out at high storage (no 32 or 64 even), and has more bells and whistles than the iPhone 7s/7s Plus. I'm only putting 2 poll options, if you aren't sure if you'd buy it or not then just don't vote I guess. I just want to see what % of the population would buy it at this price or completely ignore it because of the price.
I would get the highest end of the line full price from Apple directly "not" from any scrapers, as I always do, no matter how much it is for the lowest end as Apple loyalist and addict.

If it had a Samsung quality 2k screen and a fingerprint either in the Apple logo(in back) or built into the screen, paired with a minimum 5.9 inc oled....

I probably would!

O and a smart case, iPhones are useless to me without apples battery case since they can't last my usage patterns > half a day.
