A02A still shipping with BTO?
My replacement BTO that came yesterday is an A02A.
A02A in pitch dark 75% brightness (looks more even in person, that's polarization making it seem uneven, look in middle for true tone)

Awesome ! I just want a nice screen

Looks nice![]()
Nop, there is an A02A and an A029.
To be honest, the A02A is more yellow than the A029, but its uniformity seems to be a lot better. It's not red on the right, and green on the left.
Yes, really. The A029 is on the left, A02A on the right. The A029 is also brighter btw, but I'll keep the A02A, who got better uniformity and almost no backlight bleed.
Well I just received my 3rd 2015 13" rMBP and once again I have the A029 screen and image retention within 2 minutes. Boxed up immediately. I am thinking at this point of just sticking with my 2014 15" rMBP which has an A022 (Samsung) screen and is perfect (I went through eight models to get one that had no image retention or piss yellow uneven screen or pink tinge).
8 MBP's? I believe it but yikesthat would stress me out.
Did the store give you any crap about that one?

im already at six w/the 2015. It's not uncommon, scarily.

really sorry to hear it. Perhaps you should stick with the 2014 (if i was in the same position i wouldn't upgrade before skylake end of year anyway!)
I thought you were happy with an A02A?
It's been tough following this thread, its grown immensely![]()
I am happy with it - but its not the computer I wanted. Ordered a 16GB BTO had 2-minute image retention out of the box and so did the next one. So I bought one from best buy out of frustration (8GB) that turned out to be perfect but went ahead and ordered one more, BTO. if this one isn't good, i'll give up and keep the best buy model. As a dev using various VMs i would use the 16GB to good effect if it's meant to be, tho. If not, i do have a zareason 16GB ivy bridge laptop running ubuntu to fall back on.
/sorry for all the posts![]()

No I was lucky with replacements. I got three via the online store (as it is easier for me), two via one Apple store and two via a second Apple store and the last (which I kept) via a reseller.
For those interested, the serial numbers of the 13" rMBP I have had A029 screen on and returned are:
C02PCR7HFVH5 (1st return, ordered online)
C02P70G4FVH5 (3rd return, ordered online)
I forgot to take note of the serial number on the second return (an in-store purchase).
I wanted the 13" rMBP for university as the 15" rMBP is quite large. I am thinking of trying an Apple retail store this weekend, and if I get another A029, I am giving up for now and I may just grab an iPad Air 2 + keyboard combo for my days at university.
2012 rMBP on the left - 2015 rMBP on the right, what do you guys think?

I just got back from the Apple Store and checked all floor models which were A02A. i went to the image retention website and switched to the grey screen and maximized the browser (covering the dock). I was actually able to see image retention of the dock on all MacBooks when I would full screen safari with the grey image. I'm pretty sure all new MacBook pros have some sort of image retention but the A029's are worse.
I just fullscreen'd chrome (which covers my black menubar w/white apple icon) and didn't see an apple logo burned into that, and that's been there all day long. I dont think it affects everything, personally.
I think image retention only shows up on dark grey screens. I usually can never see it on any other color. I can usually see it when I switch to the grey screen and maximize safari using this website. the image retention is VERY faint though and I'm sure most people don't notice.

indeed. just received my exchanged gonna open it up when I get home. since you actively reply to this thread, have you experienced the fan ramping up to full rpms under load objective seeker? my first laptop did this which had the perfect screen but I returned it thinking the sudden full blast fan was not normal.Oh i've run the test for a full hour on mine w/nothing. I was pointing out chrome's top bar is grey and on full screen overlaps the apple logo and i see nothing even though the logo's been there all day -- with a black and white high-contrast image that is then seen against a neutral grey. nothing.
