Thanks for your reply! yeah it's doesn't seem to bad now, however from the images and actually looking at it there is a clear difference, to me at least.
Might just stick with it !
Mine seems to be a bit yellow and I am hesitating whether to return it. Mine is A029![]()
Honestly doesn't look too bad. Slight tint but I've seen far worse. You may have just won this thread for best A029 display so far!.
Still, going back. I'm not happy with it :/ it does look slightly worse when you're sat in front of :/
And for what I paid, I want 'perfection' if it exists !
I agree. Staring at your photos again I definitely see it. Good luck!

for the record although probably not too useful () same here, CF3C1980:A02A
Yeah it's fairly noticeable but it is definitely 'less' than some A029's I have seen on this thread.
Still get it sent back, no point spending lots of money if you're unhappy with it.
Many years passed,Apple still sell us RMBP with different kinds of screens, amazing, right?Yeah true, I have seen a few really bad ones on here! Thanks for your help. Appreciated !

Received my fifth unit today and the first thing I did was check the screen. Finally got a A02A screen! Will take some pictures later! No yellow tint w00t and excellent brightness uniformity as far as I can tell!!!! According to the box (BTO i5 2.9, 8GB RAM, 512GB SSD) this unit was manufactured on 3/22/15.
that's the exact specs of the one I will keep if the BTO fails again. I get the feeling they put more of the good screen on the higher end models.
Anyway it's a stunning screen, isn't it!! The deepest reds. It's almost enough to forgive them the travesty it all. Enjoy the thing, it's a bitchin' computer (using it now to code and it's just great)
Bright whites too!![]()
I'm on my 5th return because of image retention with A029 screens. Just received my replacement which is an A02A screen and it ALSO has image retention. I ran the test for 6 minutes and was able to see the squares on my screen after. I have a feeling this might be a widespread issue seeing as how Apple updated its website with the image persistence page. Everyone with an A02A screen please run a test for longer than 5 minutes to see if yours has it as well. The image retention did take longer than my A029 screen to appear but after a long enough time it ended up happening on my A02A (samsung) screen as well.
no, i never saw image retention on the A02A. I ran the test for 30 minutes at least, on more than one occasion. But your data point is accepted.
/if IPS had image retention as a characteristic, it'd be described right there in the wikipedia page about it contrasting it to other display technologies.
On to another exchange then! The apple employee that helped me last time was very rude seeing that i had exchanged the laptop 4 times already. She said i wasn't being "environmentally friendly" doing all these exchanges. Not going back to that store again. One thing i did notice is that the black and white squares were very faint, but if i maximized my browser to full screen when it was on the grey screen, i could see my dock with really bad image retention since its always displayed. One way you can test this is to switch your desktop background to the darkest solid grey color then click automatically hide and show dock. When mine goes down you can see an outline of it on the grey background.
this is completely my own opinion but I am starting to think that all IPS displays have some sort of image retention. But they do differ in severity. I bought an iPad mini retina year ago and initially ran an image retention test out of the box and saw nothing. Just ran it again out of curiosity too see if it developed image retention over time and to my surprise it did. like I said in my above posts my A02A display has a very faint case of image retention but the A029's I went through were pretty severe.
I got a call from the apple store I went to after filling out a survey indicating they'd done a bad job and the manager wanted to know what made me feel that way.. make sure you fill out that survey! I got a different means of acting condescending (something they are explicitly trained to do, mind you, but they're not supposed to make it obvious, they're just punished for too many returns on their shift) and "environmentally unfriendly" has to be the most ludicrous excuse i've heard yet.
/goes to dumpster dive for carelessly discarded new laptops and adapters behind the apple store

Dont drink the Apple Sauce. They do not. IPS dates back to 1974 (Commercialized in 199x). If they did, i think we'd know by now, since it's on every phone, TV, monitor, what have you. They certainly, definitely, do not all have that.
Well well well, just received my new rMBP, with a...A02A panel.
I let you find who is who...

Both look the same to me. I'm guessing right is the A02A?
