How does it work?

Here's a recent example I had.

1. Without any prompting or input from me, Google Now somehow figured out where I work.

2. It then worked out that I drove to work and the usual time that I leave (again with no prompting or input from me).

3. One day on my way to work, I got an alert from Google Now warning me of delays ahead and it provided me with an alternate route.

It's really a little bit creepy but it works well.

some time after that I stopped driving and caught the bus for a few weeks. Google Now worked out what bus I was catching and how long it took me to get to the bus stop. I would then receive notifications about when I should leave for the bus.

Screenshots or that did not happen... especially the BUS part...

Google now? What the **** does that have to do with an iPhone?

Apple's "to do" list just got longer

To do list:
1. Fix maps to make them as good as Google.
2. Add support to maps for walking to be as good as Google.
3. Add support maps for public transport to be as good as Google.

all done.

wait..
4. Catch up with "Google Now"

Don't get me wrong, I own an iPhone 4 and don't want to ditch it.
But Apple isn't just failing to provide the above, it is actively BLOCKING them.

so you can't figure out when to leave for the bus on your own? i take a commuter railroad to work/home and i somehow figured out what time i need to leave home and 2 different work offices to get to the train on time. all on my own

is there anything you can do on your own without google's help?

Satellite imagery is awful.

3D is cool, but useless in my opinion (for me, anyway).

Turn by turn is pretty nice though. Shame half the street names are missing though.

Don't be sad - at some point Apple will fix the speed and abilities of their personal assistant to do more than Rotten Tomatoes and baseball scores. While that happens, we're debating differences between what Apple can do and what Google can do - it's fair since we now have the best and most beautiful maps service on our iPhones.

I bet You are one of those people who call Siri "she" or "her" instead of "it"...

Well ****, I guess nobody needs the iOS6 Turn-By-Turn feature that gets so much love around here.

Look at it this way: can you think of any other recently introduced software that merits as much criticism as Apple Maps?

It merits such vast amounts of criticism that Tim Cook felt mightily obliged to apologize for it!

Surely you recognize that's not something that Tim Cook and Apple do lightly?

Actually used Apple Maps turn by turn today and reached my destination!

Must not be all bad.

Im supposed to show you screenshots of a dynamic process? How?

Kukulcan asked someone for an example of how Google Now works. I provided an example.

You'd know all of this if you'd read the relevant post by Kukulcan...

Small piece of this long thread, but I was recently in Detroit from NYC and the turn-by-turn worked perfectly every time, and suggested nice alternate routes just in case. The traffic was effective too.

Happy so far!

Pretty impressive. This morning I woke to find that Siri somehow knew I wanted baozi for breakfast was found her busy in the kitchen preparing them. She also figured out I wanted to go to the range today and had already reserved a lane for me at noon. She apparently also knew what else was on my mind and said, "That's not appropriate!" Oh well, two outta three ain't bad. Maybe in ios7.

And this November Google will go ahead and cast your ballot for you too. Always remember, the Google knows what's best for you. Resistance is futile...

I've read lots of your previous posts and I understand your obvious biases. I also know that if Siri worked this well you'd be claiming it as the most earth shattering feature ever created.
