Here we are, a month later and with only a few noticeable changes made.

I'm glad that its working for some of you, but, for those of us who have been having issues, most of us still find the maps completely useless and there still isn't any workaround or any reason to remain hopeful.

It sad that, instead of being helpful or even understanding, even now many who decide to chime into this thread come off as blind Apple supporters and apologists.

If the maps take me to the wrong place and there are no obvious street numbers marked, it doesn't matter if I'm a mile or just two doors away, I'm lost.

Others are now jumping on the Google = Big Brother band wagon and attempting to change the thread into that discussion because someone spoke of features available on Android. Yes, Google tracks people a bit more than most care, but that's irrelevant in this thread. All that should matter is that Apple's competitors maps work much better, have far more features, and are integrated more with the system than Apples' offering.

Considering how far behind Apple is, even if they ever catch up on data, they'll be years behind on features and functionality.

It's laughable that some are saing Apple's Maps are better because they do less.

I think "showing less" and "doing less" are twp completely different things.

If you are claiming it is useless simply because it has failed you a couple of times, I guess I can buy that. While it has worked perfectly for me so far, I'm not sure how pissed I'll be when it doesn't. I've been playing around with Waze on my commute since I know Maps turn by turn works there, but we'll see when I travel over the next couple of weeks.

Just don't confuse some of us responding that we prefer the cleaner look to liking less info.

Great. I guess if there's no problem in SW Ohio, there's no problem anywhere. The fact that they've ****ed up all of London is irrelevant, because you can get around Ohio.

Maps is dog****. Cook didn't apologise for a laugh, he apologised because he also knows it's dog****. For it not to be deemed dog****, it's need to work to an acceptable level in a lot more places than it does. It's moved whole towns hundreds of miles in the UK. It would be funny, if it had been an option alongside googlemaps for a year. Hell, I'd have enjoyed updating it and making it better. But to have the functionality of google maps taken away and replaced with this dog**** is a disgrace.

I'm glad apple have recognised it. It's absurd that you don't.

Hey Heb 7:4
Greetings from the center of the universe (Dayton OH).

Is the map data getting better where you live? I hope so, that's stupid to mess up such a major area.

I was pointing out that people seemed to be teeing off on Apple Maps unfairly for many things (3d picture rendering problems, can't get GPS fix, etc). The location data problems I felt was the only real issue, so I agreed with you.

Do you understand now what I meant by my post that Apple would fix the location data, that software was fine? if location data is bad, its blank-crap...my point was that the software is actually very good, that's separate from the data. Data can be fixed quickly (as people are seeing), bad software can take long time.

Tim Cook handled it as gracefully as he could I guess, I'm sure they'll have it straightened out in short order.

I'm going to chime in here with how Apple Maps is working for me: It is missing half the buildings downtown including one of the tallest buildings in the country and several major parks are placed hilariously wrong. Google Maps has all these things right. It is not even worth bothering trying to fix Apple Maps it is so bad. DO NOT, I repeat, DO NOT use Apple Maps if you want to actually find where you are going anywhere near me. Yes, it is that bad.

I just checked and it shows all of the buildings correctly and the parks are perfectly placed...

See how easy it was for me to do that....

That's probably easy for you to do since Apple Maps is missing half of them. Have you actually compared Google Maps and Apple Maps like I did?

How about listing the city....you're just one of many on here that make claims like that with no way of others verifying.

Ok, I will take you up on your challenge. Try to find Edmonton City Hall in Apple Maps. Then try finding Edmonton City Hall in Google Maps. It doesn't exist in Apple Maps! The city hall doesn't freaking exist in Apple Maps! Google shows it perfectly.

Apple Maps is totally unusable. It is a disaster.

This CNET article says Apple is quietly improving its maps.

This may have all ready been discussed in this thread, but I watched a video on this page that indicated to get turn by turn direction on Google Maps on iPhone, something all ready available on Android, Google demanded either more control or more presence on iPhone devices, something Apple was not willing to give, hence Apple split from Google on this feature.

This morning I tested it by navigating to a nearby Taco Cabana, 6 miles away. What I found in this case that instead of exiting the most direct way from the highway, if I had let it, Apple Maps would have had me go to a major street past the Taco Cabana and then doubled back. However when I exited where I knew was the fastest route, Apple Maps recognized this road and told me my destination was ahead on the right. Very curious. I know even dedicated GPSs sometimes don't send you the fastest most direct way which is a result of what ever data they use to figure out "best way". Apple maps is good in a pinch, but I prefer a dedicated Garmin or TomTom. :)

Challenge? All I asked was what city...hell, who even knew you were talking about Canada from your post?

As a poi, you are correct...it is not there in Apple. The building though is shown just as it is in Google. Not 3d yet, but the outline in standard view seems fine.

Again, this issue has been common, especially outside the USA...seemingly simple requests like entering "city hall" while already showing the city of Edmonton on the map takes you to city hall in Philadelphia.

I have now demoted Apple Maps into my folder of bloatware Apple apps I can't delete and promoted the Google Maps web app to my home screen.

Here's from Melbourne and Sydney, which are major cities (in Australia, for those in the thread who are internationally challenged)

"Users have complained that Apple Maps misplaces towns, provides wrong (and dangerous) driving directions and suffers from numerous visual defects."

"After using it to navigate in Melbourne and Sydney, I've found this to be true. But Google can fail sometimes too, telling me in Melbourne recently via Google Maps on the Galaxy S III that I should turn right when there was a no- right-turn sign."

Cutting to the chase, neither Google nor Apple are perfect, but Apple's Maps is way, way, way, way less than even adequate internationally.

Yes, it's been said before - both location and context search in Apple Maps is so bad it's almost useless.

Google maps isn't perfect either. Google maps is showing satellite image for an area near me from 7-8 years back, where the area is unfinished. Apple maps is 6-8 months ago. ImageUploadedByTapatalk1350814435.684184.jpg ImageUploadedByTapatalk1350814455.116515.jpg

10S 6 Maps

I have just updated my 4s to IOS6. I am very disappointed with the maps. How do I revert to the previous IOS with Google maps?

Reset and restore from back-up made prior to update....if you still have one...

EDIT: Whoops...this won't work...still in a beta state of mind...
