I do know what friggin beta is dude, I'm a software engineer applying for CEng status. None of my software is this bad with a month to go before release.

It's not the software that is bad, it's the data. Apple stated that hi-res satellite images will be added later on, so why bitching about those b/w images? They're probably just some kind of placeholders. And when talking about POIs and finding places: Apple Maps is getting better in this regard EVER DAY. And again, this has nothing to do with the Apple Maps app itself, it has to do with the data on their servers. And it's improving continuously and will improve on the future,

I understand that it's the data that is not upto scratch, but how can apple ever get it as good as google maps by this time next month?
If they don't have at least as good ariel photos as google and at least a basic POI search they'll be actually downgrading the value of the product.
They'll have to pull off something special in the next 30 days.

haha, that's funny.
The reason apple maps sucked was because google refused to provide more map data unless apple allows them to obtain more private information from iOS users.
If google's engineers are so amazing, please tell me why it took them 5 iterations of android to workaround the lag.

You are a classic example of a google wh0re.
What information? You know you can build a turn by turn app just on the information you get from the public Google Maps API, right? The directions API is enough for turn-by-turn information. Apple had to take many years to figure out what Google did in the first year. And you do know Apple stole location data from its users? And I'd argue that Apple is even less trustworthy than Google as of late... Google just wants to use your info to give you targeted advertising, and that's way better than subjecting your information to anonymous hackers...

The "lag" issue wasn't major unless your device was very old. On 2.3 it became a non-issue for usability. It was just some sub-60 frames per second scrolling. That said, most people who complain about "lag" are buying cheap/free Android phones... Try an iPhone 3G on the latest version of iOS it can run and tell me how much "lag" you experience.

You, sir, are a classic example of an Apple wh0re. Keep drinking the Reality Distortion Field kool-aid, bro, you'll eventually drown in it.

And this is a multimillion dollar company. They'll be fine in a month. Stop comparing yourself.

What sort of text to speech are you talking about? Obviously Google Navigation provides speech turn by turn. In fact it has a great one (at least when comparing to the likes of Garmin).
I am still trying to get speech turn by turn on an IPhone running IOS 5.X please show me how. I hope you are not talking about google maps on Android since the discussion is about maps on IOS.

Yes, but as a commercial company intending to sell hundreds of millions of devices with this feature, you can't use the Google Maps API for free - you have to pay. And we can't tell if Apple refused to pay or if Google refused to sell.

Oh come on...please read abou this issue first before you talk about "stealing location data".

And I'd argue that Apple is even less trustworthy than Google as of late... Google just wants to use your info to give you targeted advertising, and that's way better than subjecting your information to anonymous hackers...

Oh come on now you're just being pathetic. One Apple employee being social hacked and you turn this into "Apple is giving our data to hackers for free". Come one!

When it comes to my data, I trust Apple more than Google. Google needs to give our data to advertisers (though anonymized). Apple does not. I pay Apple for their services, they have no reason to give away my private data which is valuable for them. Why should they give it away?

Hmm, you should probably research a little more... =/

They aren't going to release the new iPhone without ios 6, so it has to be September.

Jim Dalrymple and AllthingsD confirmed it. The 12th is the date.

Nothing is certain till Apple announces it. And yes iOS 6 marks the "no sooner than" date for the iPhone 5, but fall/autumn is the only factor for the "no later than" date. Meaning iOS 6 could come out on Sept 20 and the iPhone 5 on Oct 20! Of course, likely they will be withing 1-2 weeks of each other.

True, but Dalrymple saying "Yep" is the absolute closest you can come to a "yes" without Apple itself saying so. With his "yep," he has confirmed the 4S announcement, the January iBooks announcement, the iPad 3 announcement, no iPhone at WWDC 2011, etc.

If the 12th /21st don't end up happening, then I would suspect Apple planned on the dates, but unexpected production delays forced them to move it back.

All did Jim was confirm the data for the conference. He didn't address the final date of iOS 6 at all. For all we know, Apple could have their conference on that date and announce an availability for several more weeks.

He confirmed the 21st date of the iPhone release as well. iOS 6 will come on or before that date.

Sooo has the Apple Maps app gotten any better?

Google seems to be very detailed (including Subways/Trains) compared to Apple's offering.

I hope Google has a Maps App ready in the App Store by the time iOS 6 launches.

Not necessarily. I remember one iOS release that came out several weeks after the device went on pre-order.

And I don't believe he confirmed availability - he may have confirmed the announcement, but for all we know, Apple could just be announcing re-sales.
