So if you are on snow leopard and mobile me; and don't want Lion on your machine- but you just bought a 4s (with ios5)....

Your back to pluging in your device to itunes to manually manage you contacts and calendar that worked perfect in the ecosystem of syncing in the MM cloud yesterday.

Mobile Me still works with iOS 5 (I ran it for awhile) and the service will run until next year. Plenty of time to come up with a solution if you ask me.

So why did they not just add the reminders to the calendar app?
The same reason Outlook on the PC and Mac separate tasks and calendars - they are intended to be be different things.

So I will not be required to upgrade my 4s to iCloud syncing, and can ignore that feature set? Also, my calendars and contacts will remain on all of my devices and SL machines syncing seamlessly to MM.

Correct?

So uh, iCloud suddenly stopped working for me through Apple Mail. Keeps prompting for me to enter my password, which says it's wrong... yet I can log in through the site with that same password just fine.

Ok, the one feature I really was looking forward to in iOS 5 was the location-based reminders....

I was under the impression that we could set the range of the reminder... All I see is "When I leave" and "When I arrive"... That's not horribly useful.

I had hoped that I could set a reminder to remind me to buy cat food, turkey, or vitamins when I was say 5 mi away from the store I buy those things at, to prevent me from forgetting and just driving by, only to remember when I got home... You know, a useful reminder....

Am I just missing something here?

Hrmph..

I have the same needs so what I am going to do is find the address of a close business to the store that I frequent and put that in my address book. Then I can set the reminder to go off when I arrive at that "location" and I will be close to the store. I will not use the actual store address because the GPS is sometimes off and I fear that it wont recognize that I am at the store until I actually pass it.

Hope this helps. I was hoping that they would have a map and you could drop a pin where you want the "fence" to be placed and the reminder would go off when you entered or left that fence.

I have a feeling the servers are getting blasted right now. Lets hope they fire up a few more machines to handle the load!

I guess I was lucky, took all of 5 minutes or so to download the file and it has taken about 10 or so minutes to update and restore apps.

Yeah, I suppose. It just seems silly to jibber-jabber around with two different apps if you don't have to. Anyway, I think I'm going to have to stick with 2Do until reminders gets a few more features.

On a separate note, where is the cool new lock screen with the camera? Only available on 4S or is it a setting somewhere?

Double click the home button while the iphone is locked.

^ Seriously, I now have a note with that line just for MacRumors... :shake head: And I don't even have a blrdy iPhone. (It should be here next week :D)

Updated both my iPhone 4 and first generation iPad, and iTV..... All three had issues however, I worked through all of them... I see a lot of people upset that the update caused issues... It's hard to understand why people are so quick to get in a twist... If a person will just remain calm and keep trying to recover, it WILL update just fine... I'm happy with the update... I'm a little confused about the messages app on my ipad... Not positive how and when messages get routed to the ipad vs the phone... Was really hoping that iTV would have had app support but I guess they want to hold out on that..

the messaging will be based on the AppleID used on (seems they have made so that it makes sense to have an id per device...) the devices. If you are using the same ID on both... I don't know either.

Solved the problem

Like many other people, I had problem with updating my iPods, iPhones, iPads.

I had previously AS installed, Software update did install new osx versions, but something went wrong with iTunes.

Try to install Itunes manually from apple website http://www.apple.com/itunes/download/

for me it worked!!

Echoes

These are the echoes of the Steve's last brush strokes on the canvas that is Apple. His grand vision of the ecosystem is finally coming together. I just hope that the roots of this plant are strong and it'll keep growing with many fantastic blooming seasons to come.

iTunes wiped my iPhone in preparation for the update, then gave me an unknown error. My phone is now stuck in "recovery mode" giving me the "plug into iTunes" logo. I can't do anything now. I now have no phone. It did the same thing to my girlfriend's iPad (which of course, is not quite as important as a phone). This has been a complete debacle and I've seen a lot of other complaints of the same thing. What a mess.

I have the same ****** problem. Just got the apple logo and nothing else. All I get is that there was an error -1 and nothing works. This is the third time I've tried.

The fourth time the phone seemed to restore and when it tried to boot it got hung up on the apple logo. I waited 10 minutes and then did a hard reboot/rest and entered some info (apple ID and such) and now I'm waiting for my Apple ID to setup...it says it make take a few minutes. I wonder how many is a few?

Radio Remote

Will iOS5 allow the connection of iPod Radio Remote to receive ultra-short waves on iPhone and will it give the possibility to finally listen to radio without interferences? Or should I ask Siri about this?

My wife is using a G5 and has an iPhone 4. Does this mean she should not upgrade the iPhone to IOS5? Otherwise her calendars and other items will not sync between the Mac and the iPhone? Will they continue to sync in the meantime via MobileMe?

:mad::mad::mad::mad:

The restore process completely deleted everything on my iPhone/iPad and I need to start from stretch. What a disaster.

As anyone upgraded to it on a 3GS?

Also any hiccups moving contacts and calendars from mobile me to icloud?

Thanks.

I upgraded one of my co-workers iPhone 3GS and it works fine from what they have told me,
"0" Hiccups on using the iCloud transportation of personal information. Everything seems to just "work"....

Yesterday I upgraded Lion on my work iMac, and my home MacPro, MacBook Air, iPad1, and iPhone 3GS. Total time: around 6.5 hours. Still need to upgrade the wife's phone.

I ran into only two snags:

(1) My main email account is a Verizon pop mail account. The upgrade to iOS 5 deleted my draft email folder, the sent mail folder, and the trash on my mobile devices. It also "refreshed" my inbox, meaning it downloaded everything from the queue again, and marked it as new mail. Anyone know if there's a way to get these back? Also, for some reason on the iPad it also duplicated my mail account, meaning I had two identical Verizon accounts. Weird.

(2) I just noticed this only on my iPad: all calendar items prior to 30 days ago have been triplicated. If I go back to early September and prior, every calendar item shows up three times. I assume when I get back home from work I can force the calendar to be rewritten from the desktop during the sync.

Otherwise, apart from Apple's servers getting hammered, things went pretty smoothly. New iOS works great on the phone and iPad.

"Some users"? You've got to be kidding: #error3200 is international top trending on Twitter.

Why don't you ask it to remind you when you leave home or work?

I had a pretty similar problem, except all my stuff were duplicated. The problem was calendars and contact are duplicated onto icloud, not moved, the first time you use it. Entirely reasonable, but potentially confusing. I exported my calendars and contacts, deleted all my calendars and contacts (off my computer AND phone), and synced with icloud. Then I moved everything back into ical and contacts as "on icloud". It was then synced to my phone without duplicating.
