Yeah, I got the download this afternoon and I've been trying since then to install it. Just now my iPhone's bricked, but I view that as progress because now it doesn't do a half hour backup before trying to restore. I'm just going to be calm and keep trying to restore fit (already gone several rounds on that, getting the server connection error). Eventually it will work, and I hope my iPhone backup is in there somewhere. :)

I'm sure by tomorrow I'll have a phone.

I was thinking of waiting but I just couldn't. So now I'll be patient.

I do not seem to have the little camera icon on my lock screen for the camera short cut. Is there an option to enable it or something? I looked through what I thought was all of the settings but have yet to find it. Is anyone one else having this problem? Or know how to fix it?

I am on an iPhone and just updated to ios5. Lion update is still downloading.

Well, it's on my iPad (iPhone updating now), I dunno, I'm normally in love with Apple stuff, but not feeling this. Multitasking gestures don't work. Apple's website says to use 4 or 5 fingers, and swipe up for multitasking, side for switching apps, and pinch for home screen. None of these work. Also, Newsstand won't go into any folder, which is really annoying. Everything else I have (except for apps in the doc) are in folders, and it looks odd having it stick out. Also, Reader doesn't work for a lot of sites, including Macrumors ;).

I'm sure the wireless syncing will be great, and I'm looking forward to the notifications on the iPhone, but iPad-wise it doesn't seem to be much yet.

I updated my phone to the GM version few days ago. But today when I tried to update my wife's phone the iTunes popped up a message saying "internal error" and luckily her phone rebooted back to normal (4.3.5). I will try it again tomorrow.

The multitasking gestures should work. Check your Settings -> General to see if it's enabled or not?

Any word on merging Apple IDs? a.k.a. merging the one we use for iTunes with our mobileMe account.

There was a story up on this a few weeks ago and I was wondering if there have been any whispers...

Merging works seamlessly.

Sign in with your normal Apple ID, then create a me.com email account. All your purchases, purchase history is transferred over. Then, you can use EITHER email to log into iTunes, etc. :)

Apparently you double click the home button while it is locked. I don't have an iPhone so can't test this.

Yeah, that's what I thought too, but I looked in General and there's nothing for gestures there.

Wirelessly posted (Mozilla/5.0 (iPhone; CPU iPhone OS 5_0 like Mac OS X) AppleWebKit/534.46 (KHTML, like Gecko) Version/5.1 Mobile/9A334 Safari/7534.48.3)

Yep, worked beautifully. Thanks.

Well after all I've read, Im going to wait to install iOS5. The download is taking hours, still 2 hours to go after an initial 3 hours so far.

Apple sure dropped the ball with server use estimates, or did they even bother...

It took me 2 hours to download and install iOS 5 today (and that was on a so-so WiFi connection). It got done around 4PM. I just got home a little while ago and WOW, I am VERY surprised to see that so many of you got errors and experienced a whole slew of issues. Everything went smooth for me.

I was looking for iMessages all over, checked the App store, and figured that they just implemented it into Messages, which they did. SO THEN WHY does Apple say they released iMessages today, it is still "Messages"?

Love that you can press the Volume Up button when in the camera app to take photos! THANK YOU, THANK YOU, THANK YOU APPLE!!

Hate that the update messed up the order of all my apps!! I spent 30+ minutes last night trying to organize all my apps in order and delete ones I don't need. Then after the update all that time I put in was wasted and Apple gave me more apps I can't delete that I'll never use (Videos, Newsstand).

Like the new notifications also.

This may be a dumb question but my iPhone4S is coming on Friday, but right now I have a 3G, and to my understanding the 4S will be coming with iOS5, but when I sync will I have to reload iOS5 onto my device? Or will it recognize the newer iOS and just install my contacts, apps, music, etc. ?

Updated now my earpiece doesn't work?!?

For some reason my headpiece/earpiece stopped working after the update. The phone still rings, and I can still use the speakerphone or earbuds--but nothing from the earpiece. Anyone else have this problem?

Thanks!

Apple's iOS 5 and iCloud upgrade

Hi All,

Kindly login to itunes before upgrading to IOS 5.
get backup of all the vedios and pictures from your iphone.
delete and start upgrading, this process works much faster to upgrade.

Error 3004: If the steps listed in Error 3000-3999 do not resolve the issue, and you are using a Mac, you may be able to resolve an error 3004 by quitting iTunes and using the following command at the command line:
dscacheutil -flushcache

Please paste the following in the terminal after quitting itunes.
dscacheutil -flushcache

Do restore the phone while upgrading, once the software is updated the iphone will be restored from back up.

Hope this helps.

From my experience the download servers are intact but the activation server is dead, since I downloaded the full iOS 5 for iPhone 4 in a few minutes but it just refused to install it onto my phone due to activation/verification problems...

You can just back up your 3G and when the 4S arrives, plug it in, then you can choose to restore from that backup.

Problems usually happen at night :p

Just managed to get iOS 5 on my iPad and iPhone. I had to reload all my songs and apps on to both devices though. Also had a bit of a steep ramp up with iCloud because I have a MBA and a PC with Outlook thrown into the mix. Everything seems fine for now.

Right I have plans to do so but when I restore from that backup it won't have iOS5 on it so will I then have to reinstall iOS5 on it?

Restoring from backup just restores all of your apps, contacts, photos, data etc., not the entire previous OS. So you will end up with iOS 5 and all of your previous data.

I've been downloading it for about 30 minutes...has told me that it will take 13-14 hours to complete...and that is on AT&T's DSL 2nd to fastest speed.:mad:

AirPrint is DEAD for shared printers!

They seem to have killed the AirPrint fix for shared printers. I've replaced the files from Chuck's fix, but it's not working.

Download Speeds

It does appear that apple is working on moving users to new servers to increase speed. If your brave enough to start over as i was you can switch to a different dns server like one of these 4.2.2.1,4.2.2.2,205.171.3.65 or other higher up servers. then perform a "sudo dscacheutil -flushcache" in terminal and try again. it got my downloads going.
