Hate the lens bump. But it might be useful for external camera attachments; which I don't use.

The best external camera attachment is an external camera that has better ergonomics, a viewfinder you can see in sunlight and the ability to take proper specialist lenses that attach with a mount that is supported for more than 18 months, external flash etc. - the whole point of having a camera in a phone is the convenience of an all-in-one device.

I'm not objecting to multiple lenses per se if they help with foolproof photography but actually fitting within the body of the phone is pretty much #1 on the priority list.

One point of multi-lens technology is to solve the problems associated with ultra-short focal length lenses that fit into phone bodies. If the lenses still don't fit then the technology isn't done yet (or maybe the phone doesn't need to be that slim)

If Apple want to innovate, work with Canon or someone on improving the way phones and cameras interact so you can augment a proper camera with the display and editing capabilities of a phone.

Ugly as sin must be a new design fad. Anyone remember when good design was a thing?

I think what is happening is that designers' ambitions is outstripping technical progress - so they're designing for a vision that might be possible in 2025 (with ultra-thin cameras, cameras and fingerprint sensors that can work through a display, better batteries, wireless data and charging so good that you don't need any physical ports, lag-free wireless headphones etc.) - and then kludging the design to work with current tech - so we get notches, camera bulges, marginal battery life, disappearing fingerprint sensors and premature removal of headphone jacks...

It's your money. If you can afford it, there is no point in holding back if you like the new features.

Yeah I know I know and thats the problem I can easily afford it... but it still doesn't make it ok you know what I mean.... its the principal behind it, there's really no reason to do it... I look around and some of my friends are still happily rocking an iPhone 6 or 6S and then I feel like something is wrong with me that I have this need to get the newest phone every year. But I guess everyone has their quirks

Apple has been aggressively marketing the iPhone XR, a lower-priced alternative with most-but-not-all features of the flagship iPhone XS and iPhone XS Max models. A dual rear camera could increase the $749 starting price of the iPhone XR, or eat into Apple's profit margins slightly if pricing remains unchanged.
STOP. APPLE, THIS NEEDS TO ****ING STOP. DID YOU NOT LEARN A DAMN THING FROM THIS YEAR AT ALL!?

I get what you're saying but at the same time, I carry my phone for day to day, spur of the moment shots. When I go somewhere with the specific intent of photographing something, I have no problem attaching special cases, lenses, etc.

"Why not get a real camera?"

The photos I take are pretty real, so I do have a "real camera." I just prefer not to use or invest in a DSLR or Mirrorless. My ex had a DSLR and a handful of lenses.

My shots were still better.

I've really enjoyed 3D touch. I really hope they don't kill it. It's honestly one of the best innovations that I feel Apple has made in recent memory in how you interact with the device, with the only thing coming close to rivaling it is the FaceID camera.

However, I am very excited about dual cameras on XR. I am very much wanting a dual camera for my next iPhone, but I cannot spend the money for an XS. While I am not a fan of the extra size of the XR over the XS, I could probably swallow that size difference easier than the cost difference.

I know they added the ability to use the trackpad as a cursor for all iPhone models in iOS 12, but it’s very half baked. You can’t even highlight sentences and paragraphs with it. 3D Touch still has value in my mind

Here we go again with the split between with the XS & Max.
Gotta raise those profits...
Biggest differentiator will be the price, $1800 for 3 lens phone because we all need 3 lenses. That said, I am not feeling in the "Apple Just Works" zone anymore, prices are ridiculous. Maybe Balmer was right after all, lol.

'innovation' they said..

Man that triple camera is gonna look hideous!

not a fan of the tear drop on x/xs either

bring back the 7/8plus horizontal dual cam!

I think think that the iPhone 5 is the highpoint of the iPhone design in terms of aesthetics (almost Braun 1970s design language). I like to think that this was Ive & team and SJ working together. The latest models are just not pleasing (I'm sure they are great phones, they are just not the iconic design that I associate with Apple)

Is Apple just throwing sh** against the wall to see what sticks? "Focusing" all its attention on camera while ignoring rest of functionality is nuts. Apple seems intent on turning the iPhone into Leica camera. Who needs/wants/willing to pay for that? Not me. TC is lost in the forrest.

These all sounds like bad moves. This then gives the Max an edge over the XS, like they did with the 7 and 8 Plus, which sucks to people who don't want a giant screen. I already have a slight difficulty in holding my XS, I would not want a XS Max. If it's more profit they're going for, it seems that the Max is already selling more than its smaller sibling this generation, so I don't know why they need to change that.

Then, if the XR gets a dual lens as well... what is the point of even selling a XS? Lol. There's gotta be other perks for the XS if they do that.

Lastly, 3D Touch is a really cool feature, and I will be bummed if they fully nix it. From home screen shortcuts to the keyboard cursor movement to peeking at links... I understand that many people don't even know it's there, but that's simply a marketing blunder. Freakin' tell people that it's there!

No 3D Touch would be a move that would piss me off and I take most of Apple’s slightly annoying changes well. That would simply be a step backwards in too many ways. I’ve come to use that functionality all the time. That others haven’t found a use for it shouldn’t be a reason to ditch it to no doubt simply pad margins.

If they switch to all-OLED by 2020, and also remove 3D-Touch...the XR wil not be longer needed...what would be the difference between XR and XS?

I'm pretty sure they will have the nerve to keep the 720p display on the xr to get people who care about the display to get the iphone XIS ...

Stereoscopic wide angle cams please! Will be great to look at those pictures/videos with a 4k VR headset. I know that's not yet mainstream, but it will be in the near future.
Would be great, if Apple would think ahead.

You’ll be paying $300 more for premium materials at that point. Aluminum vs stainless steel

The moment that remove 3D Touch which is a useful feature, is the moment I will stop put up with their crap.
They have yet to have a good solution for removing the trusted headphone jack.
