a little off-topic but related: A few days ago, my daughter took her MacBook Pro to get a warranty repair performed. I waited, walked around the store, and then we left. I remember the days when it used to be a joy to enter an Apple store and dazzled by the activity and "toys." For me it just seems sterile. My wife commented that she felt assaulted by the Apple staff that continuously asked if she needed help as she walked to the "genius" bar. And my daughter noticed the removal of the kids area filled with iMacs. I still happily use Apple products. But I'm still on an iPhone 7+ and see little reason to upgrade. As a Mac-user since the Performa days, the magic and passion that was Apple sadly seems to be dissipating.

Is Apple just throwing sh** against the wall to see what sticks? "Focusing" all its attention on camera while ignoring rest of functionality is nuts. Apple seems intent on turning the iPhone into Leica camera. Who needs/wants/willing to pay for that? Not me. TC is lost in the forrest.
Huh? You don’t know what else they are adding with this phone just because cameras is all that’s been mentioned doesn’t mean that’s all they are adding.

I couldn't care less about the 3rd camera, but if they drop 3D touch I may hold on to my XS for a long-long time...

How's the haptic touch, XR users?..

Saw something like this coming once it became clear that people weren't going to stop talking about the iPhone XS Max as the flagship model of the line. At least for one generation we had feature parity between the two sizes for those of us who don't want enormous phones. :(

Seriously, who needs a "triple lens" camera on a smartphone? This is honestly getting a bit ridiculous. I want to carry a phone in my pocket, not a mirrorless camera. The render of the camera on the first page is absolutely hideous. I refuse to buy something like that.

Not that I'm giving these rumors any sense of coming to fruition. But if Apple were to release something as ugly as the rendered photos I am seeing, I will keep my Xs until it dies.

I couldnt disagree more, but everybody’s mileage will vary. The recent forays to some of the Apple stores left me with apple is alive, the stores are buzzing and people are buying. My wife hates going to the Apple store, but for only the reason every time we walk in we spend money.

We were recently in the Apple store. Apple replaced the battery on her 7 gratis. I walked out with the max, love the max.

My guess is they aren't going to add anything of significance. Next iteration of chipset probably all. I doubt any new major features. Apple has become "Clueless in Cupertino". BTW I've been using Apple products since the original Mac in 1984 (which I still have in storage).

Then, if the XR gets a dual lens as well... what is the point of even selling a XS? Lol. There's gotta be other perks for the XS if they do that.

I'd still choose the XS over the XR even if it had a dual lens... I love the OLED screen, I prefer the smaller device size, and I can't do without 3D Touch (as long as they don't remove that from the XS successor...)

3D Touch is a useless gimmick. Of course it’ll disappear.

I hate the fact that apple may go with triple camera on the max. I don’t want to buy a phablet just to have the best camera setup.

Tech is at the point where what else that’s useful can phone companies really even bring in? It’s harder each year

Only rumours are

Touch ID Under the display
USB type C
Triple lens camera

Nothing else has been leaked yet.

I feel a lot of the big improvements will come via IOS 13

I do not like the idea of giving the Max extra features. The XS size is perfect for me, the Max is too big.

I also agree the camera bump should go and increase the battery size to compensate.

I do use the Moment 18mm wide and 58mm tele lens on my XS and are wonderful photo accessories for the phone. I would much rather see a bump in sensor size and keep the dual camera than adding a 3rd camera (what would it be, ultra-wide, 3x zoom or make the wide wider, tele more tele and add a middle focal length?)

The three lens setup will most likely look like one of these mockups rather than the idiotic one that was used for this article.

Whatever happened to MicroLED? Coming from someone that hates, hates, HATES the bump, I would be willing to accept a modest bump, if and only if a case can make it flush AND they can get 5x or greater optical zoom with changeable aperture.

How about we just allow the phone to grow that tiny bit to make the "bump" flush and then fill the newly found space with battery. Phones are thin enough if they bend in a pocket.

My favorite iPhone to date was the 4s with its heft and weight.
