None all day? There was a twenty four hour period in which to register a vote, or a thought, or an observation.

Mine (internet which is far from ideal) cuts out intermittently; but it is still possible to register a vote, - or, even a question, a doubt, if only musing aloud.
Yes, all day.
I wish this was part of some game strategy, but all I am doing is draw attention to myself.

meh.
it's called life.
i already said i thought we had more time. you know well that i very very rarely miss a vote (in fact I don't remember when it happened the last time)
i logged after lunch and saw the deadline was already passed.

make of it what you will.

Don't take it personal. :D

I wasn't accusing you, merely stating the obvious - and no, I don't know yet what to make of it at all. I know extremely well that you don't miss votes easily (agreed, I think I never see you miss one actually) and it is extremely uncommon to see that many miss it - miss not only to vote but to more or less completely show up (although doing so within one hour after the deadline was reached), I believe you would agree there. Now if that is all due to a really shortish deadline over the week-end: possibly yes, possibly not - I have no clue.

But whatever, let's move on. This game shapes up to be of the more unconventional kind so far.

This is just my opinion, but the deadline was too short for a weekend. But yes, let's move on.

Candidly, @Don't panic missing a vote is a somewhat surprising and a most unexpected occurrence; my comments weren't really aimed at him, as he normally is an active and enthusiastic participant.

Yes, I can see what you mean. Ominous...

you and some others should re-read the first post of this thread. it clearly states this game has day and night deadlines of 24 hours.

yes it does, and i already admitted it was my mistake not to be aware of when the precise deadline was.

that said, it also says "unless stated otherwise", so obviously there is flexibility, and i fact you did arbitrarily moved the deadline by ~1.5 hours at the very end yesterday, a move that had a very significant effect on the voting results.
i assume you did it because only 5 people had voted by then (mrkramer, chrmjenkins, sythas, philbeeney, woodnuFC) with only a short time to go, which i guess makes sense, but if you do that, then the extension should be ample enough to allow everyone to take advantage of it.

the deadline had stayed the original one, than woodNUFC would have been lynched, since wooNUFC would have not changed his vote in time and scepticalscribe and twietee would not have casted a valid vote (ironically)
on the other hand, if the hours added would have been 3 hours instead of 1.5, then Techgod, Meister and myself would also have had a chance to vote in the extra time

this is the actual voting sequence:

- saturday, 11:54 am (EST, =8:54 PST). rick announces the DEADLINE for ~24 hours later, sunday 9 am PST, or noon EST (post 155)

saturday evening:
- post 159 mkramer votes meister
- post 160 chrmjenkins votes woodNUFC
- post 161 sythas votes plutonius
-
post 162 philbeeney votes woodNUFC (2nd vote)

sunday morning
- post 169 woodNUFC votes meister (2nd vote)

- post 171 rick announces there is "2.5 hours left" (instead of the original <1).
Since he posted at 11:03 am (EST), the NEW DEADLINE is thus moved from 12 (EST) to 1.33 pm (EST)

- post 173 plutonius votes philbeeney
- post 174 Moyank votes philbeeney

END OF ORIGINAL DEADLINE -at this point woodNUFC was in the lead, and would have been lynched

extended voting time:
- post 176 wood switches to philbeeney (3rd vote)
- post 180 scepticalscribe votes plutonius
- post 181 twietee votes Koodauw (5 minutes before new deadline)

sunday, 1.33 pm (EST): NEW DEADLINE REACHED, with philbeeney now in the lead, with 3

- post 185 techgod logs in -too late to vote (1.55 pm)
- post 189 meister logs in -too late to vote (2.41 pm)
- post 194 dontpanic logs in -too late to vote (2.51 pm)

Actually, I didn't realise that the deadline had changed at all.

For what it is worth, I was keeping a watching eye on things, checking in every 10 minutes or so, and so would most likely have made any deadline as I was around yesterday, and when rick made his post saying that the deadline was two and a half hours away, I worked from that, not realising that it had been changed (as I'm not on US time) prior to his post.

I will admit that the relative lack of participation in the actual day's events did surprise me somewhat; the lack of votes cast even more so, and the swift arrival of so many immediately after the deadline left me astounded.

If I'd come back a bit earlier I would have changed my vote to be for Plutonius, the random vote from him and Moyank leaving WoodNUFC with no other reasonable option to save himself makes me very suspicious. So for now unless we get lucky and actually lynched a wolf my guess as to the three wolves are Meister, Plutonius, and Moyank. I'm guessing the infection hasn't been used yet either.

i am not following your line of reasoning. could you elaborate?
if the purpose was to save their furry buddy meister, one of the two could have simply voted for woodNUFC

I guess I don't see the point in complaining about the change? Had we stuck to the original deadline, everyone who missed the vote with the extended period would still have missed the original vote, so why shift the blame to Rick?

I was around my computer and would have changed my vote earlier had I needed to. It's not like I'm still here because I got lucky when I was away from home. I was actively watching the thread the whole time.

i had no clue i even changed it. i was at a rented cabin with the family snowboarding....here is what im thinking happened now.

1030 is when we started first day...so when i posted on #171, at 0800. i must of just been thinking 1030am was the deadline still...thus 2.5 hours. not realizing it was at 0900. this wasnt on purpose to extend the deadline, and im very sorry for this discrepancy.

my post that i made above was just to say that the days and nights were shorty than normal.

again, sorry guys!

fair enough.
when i logged in yesterday i realized my mistake when i saw your "final tally post", then when to the original post and saw the deadline should have been hours before, so i didn't understand what you and twietee were rambling about, only earlier today i notice rick's comment that extended the deadline.
however, i stand by the point that weekends are always low-activity, and i must say i find my good friend's @twietee 's position particularly ironic, since by his post it is plain he also had no precise idea when the deadline was, and thus he was (by sheer luck) only five minutes away from becoming one of those same "suspicious slackers" who show up right after the deadline, he is complaining about ;) :D

no, that's fine.
rereading i just thought that was the reason.
also i am not blaming anyone for anything, i just think that given the obvious confusion about the deadline (yes, due to a lack of reading comprehension skills, at least in my case :)) too much of a big deal was made out of it.

more importantly, how was the snow?
here there is nothing. very depressing :D
what is worse, i hear there is little snow on the alps, which i will be skiing on with my kids and missus winter break mid-february. hopefully by then it gets more 'normal'.
i haven't been skiing in europe for many years and it would totally suck if we finally go there and there is no snow !

I'm now very suspicious of the people that piled on philbeeney. Would like to hear seasons why they'd rather see him go than WoodNUFC.

I had no other reason than to just cause a tie, as I explained in earlier posts. After 1 day of voting and a kill at night, that was as good a reason as any. Not much to go on and the tie strategy doesn't work as well if there are people not voting, but weekends are tough! Lots of football and family (in my case!), so I definitely get it.

And, seriously, he had 3 votes, IIRC. Is that really piling on? He had as many votes as there were people who didn't vote at all
