All I see coming from this is updated iBooks, new iPod shuffles w/ higher capacities, a high end photo editing software (think about it, they have video and audio, yet no image editors?), possibly updates to the Mac minis (More RAM?), and Apple will probably bring out some type of new product we arent expecting. They always seem to.

Hopefully there isnt anything new w/ powerbooks because I just got one lol.

And don't forget the little "one more thing" by Jobs which is the announcement of the switch to Intel from IBM.

A photo editing software would be interesting, but, I'm not sure Apple wants to pee on Adobe's shoes just yet. However, they could also take advantage of the preoccupation of Adobe with the Macromedia acquisition. Adobe just released CS2 which may also be a good way to steal Adobe's thunder.

But I wouldn't put high odds on it.
I've just never understood why they havent came out with an Image Editor yet, They have Garageband, Logic, iTunes, and Soundtrack mainly for Audio (I think I'm leaving one or two out)....and FCP, FCE, Not sure what is included in Final Cut Studio, iMovie and iDVD.
All there is for images is iPhoto lol what is this?

What is the main reasoning behind that anyways? Is it just to bump up the gHz or what?
(If it were to happen)

A PLASTIC Powerbook?? No way!
I am pretty confident that the aluminium and the solid industrial look are perhaps the reasons why people buy them. If Apple was to change that i don't think people would be so attracted to them anymore. When it comes to portable equipment, looks are as important as function.

I'm sorry if my explination was confusing. I ment that the new form of powerbooks would be alum, but the new iBooks might take old powerbook form, but might switch to plastic due to complaints..yada yada ya.. about wireless not being that great... also it would keep that sexy white look. Or they could just keep the alum. on which would be the new iBook line and just brush it white. But by all means.. yes the powerbooks are so sexy w/ the alum, i hope they keep it that way.

I think the ibook will get a modest update, making it "Tiger" proof ie. 64mb Graphics card.

Apple Cinema Displays have just gone to "clearance" level at PC World (UK) making me believe that something is coming in that direction (17"? new, improved 20" and 23"?, further price falls?).

I think you are right about the screens.

There's a surplus of TFTs on the market from overproduction - result is prices (both manufacturing and retail) are falling. Apple have also stopped promoting their CRT apple displays on their apple store - I think they may have gone all together!

I think there's a fair chance of Apple putting new screens in both the ibook and powerbook range. Almost certain that all new macs will become widescreen soon as apple are so committed to HD video.

Here's to 6pm GMT Monday!

It is the year of HD after all - this would be a welcome upgrade to both lines!

Apple Screens are still well and truly there on the store by the way with no shipping delays, and as pricy as ever!

I think a 45" laviathon would be quite nice. To kick start the year of 'Crap, thats a big screen'.

It has some good marketing potential no?

Desktop as big as... well your desk!

Isn't that the point of the Apple desktop anyway? Your screen is a visual representation of your desk. Documents, folder, trashcan etc.

I'm a graphic designer and I've said for years we're heading back to sitting over a drawing board. Only this time its going to be a huge screen.

Working at 90degrees to what you are working on isn't very natural anyway. The much talked about tablet is the first step.

.Mac to undergoe changes?

According to the .Mac member's page:

.Mac will be undergoing scheduled maintenance from 10:00 AM to 12:00 PM PST on Monday, June 6th. During this time iDisk will be intermittently unavailable. We apologize for the inconvenience.
Last Updated: 6/03/2005

Interesting that the "scheduled maintence" happens to be the same time that Steve Jobs will be delivering the WWDC keynote address.

It would be so kind if Steve Jobs would fix the Cinema Display defects first (especially the 23") before announcing any new displays.

I'm sure it's just a coincidence... ;)

Maybe this means that Apple is finally going to offer the larger capacity that members have been asking. The .Mac being down sounds comparable to the Store being down prior to updates. Don't think anyone will notice the downtime due to interest in WWDC.

Great News

I am needing a reason to renew my membership again. I got a free .mac membership when i used to work at an apple reseller store, and then renewed it the year after while I was travelling overseas so i could continue to post pictures and updates of my trip to my homepage. I will be coming up to renewal again in a few months and currently have no reason to renew. There really isn't anything i use on .mac on a regular basis.

Any .mac members out there care to share with me what they find .mac handy for?

Available Webcast on Monday

Does anyone know (from past conferences) how long it will take for Apple to post a webcast of the Keynote on their website? Is there any chance that it will be available live during the keynote?

PS I'm hopin' for the 3 GHz Power Mac....ahhhhhhhhhhhh!

I only use .Mac for email and sync services. But, I haven't been able to sync since installing 10.4. Apple assures me that they are aware of the problem, however it has been weeks and nothing has been resolved. Many other .Mac subscribers are running into the same problem with Tiger. :( I'm not so sure .Mac is worth its $99/year costs anymore, at least to me. Especially, since you can't even speak to a live person for support.

Yeah, I am having synch problems as well. No Palm sync and weird errors with my .Mac email. I'll hang in there but its not very professional of them.

Hi, J-Squire,

I'd guess a lot of .mac subscribers are in the same boat. In fact, before my last renewal, I sent a "suggestion" to Apple about the amount of storage. (This was around the time Hotmail and Yahoo! accounts got a boost.) The iDisk/email space increased within a week-- purely coincidental, I'm sure.

One thing I've always enjoyed is the extras: Marble Blast, then PhotoStudio, and finally iBlog. I have a blog that my students can check out for reviewing class material. Nice but not worth a hundred bucks.

Another thing-- and I don't know if this is only available through .mac-- is the the Spotlight searching. This is worth it for me. But if you had the Mail app collect your email (ie. from another service) it would work anyway.

Finally, the learning Center is an absolute godsend for me. It was especially handy when I was newer to the system. Now, if I get the time, I'd like to check out the Tiger tutorials. (Side note: Have any of you noticed that the .mac exclusive widgets which were "coming soon" are no longer advertised on the .mac page?)

A hundred bucks/year is a lot of cash, and it becomes less and less useful the better a person gets at using the system.

I was about to post a similar comment. I have been checking the .mac homepage every now and then to check if these "exclusive" widgets have been made available. I really hope they are still in the works, although I can't think of much that isn't simply available on dashboardwidgets.com or already available from apple's downloads area.
