I doubt they would put iSights in displays... what if you had two 30" monitors side-by-side on your desk... would you have 2 isights on 1 computer???

Add a few more iSights and the person you're chatting with could see 3D you! iChat 5.0? you heard it here first

Agreed. The mobile Core 2 Duo isn't that much faster, although the desktop equivalent is apparently much faster than its predecessor.

You're quite right. Although I think that everyone who is arguing that "Merom" isn't much faster than the "Core Duo" is just a bit bummed that their hardware is going to be obsolete in a few weeks...:p

I own a MacBook Pro, and it's plenty fast - but I'm not one for downplaying the importance of "Merom." It's a fast chip - and hopefully battery life will stay the same/improve - and you will absolutely notice a difference in rendering times (if not in simpler things, like opening iWeb).

Very true, No logical sense in them doing that, because it's the pro users that usually buy the dual display setup (being very general btw). Good point.

I'm hoping we'll see some improvement over the whole range of processors(currently Yonah) if (most likely when) Apple decides to put them in. We got Merom, Conroe and Woody Woodcrest to look forward to.

How would you know this? Do you have one (Merom that is?). Everything I've read has said there's about a 20% increase in performance at the same energy level. That's a lot better than 'Marginal'. Not to mention being able to address more RAM, which would defenitely be great for me. Why don't you wait until actual benchmarks come out for MacBook Pro's using Core Duo and Core 2 Duo before you make blanket statements that you yourself can't back up?

Why is C2Duo keeping you from a Mac? They are only marginally faster than the Core Duos, and it's not that noticeable...

Bah, this thing keeps logging me out of the forums for some reason so it's shut down and sleep time, and I'll see you all in a few hours, when I can give this baby a real workout. Ah the life of a mac nerd....

No, don't they have enough bugs to deal with as it is.

Mac users arent smug, or childish. Just watch the Mac commercials.

The correct word is "aren't".

If I was you (as a Mac community) I wouldn't be supporting those commercials. Several different reports have shown that people find them arrogant and annoying. (Not even going to mention how several of them are painfully incorrect and misleading).

As for being smug, there have been several high-profile individuals who have switched from Macs that have mentioned that. One of them most recently stated specifically that the "tipping point" was due to the smugness of the Mac community.

Wow Im excited! I hope he is a little more energetic. From the last presentation (iPod Hi-Fi) he didn't seem to enthusiastic. But either way Christmas has come early.

Anybody else playing steve-note bingo with their friends?

You ordered a Macbook pro on the eve of WWDC. ARe you mad?

I wonder how big a drop in sales Apple sees right before an event like this, probably fairly significant.

We also make more money, I remember a while ago doing a comparison between a waiter on Aussie award wages and US minimum wage in the purchase of an iBook. The US waiter would have to work ~2x as many hours as the aussie waiter to afford an iBook at our respective online Apple Stores.

Just an aside:

Waiters in the US usually don't make minimum wage. They make about $3.15/hr plus tips.

The same with pizza delivery drivers. (I did it back when I was still in high school. It's a horrible job.)

Yeah, which is appalling. Something should be done about that, how can a government hope for people to support themselves when they're earning such a pitiful amount??

Alright guys... So as much as I pity the waiter/pizza guy who makes $3 an hour, lets keep the conversation somewhat closer to WWDC related ;) .

by the way, i'm usually a good tipper.

My hopes for WWDC: Definitely wanting to see a Mac Pro, and hoping that they'll use the 3 Ghz version of the Xeon rather than skimping out and only going with 2.66 Ghz. It would be kinda sad to see such a sweet computer come out after I'd spent so much on my Quad, but I know that my Quad is still a BEAST, so I'm okay with the progress of technology :) .

It would also be nice to see updates and perhaps price drops on the displays. An XServe introduction would also be nice, even though I don't have a use for it. One thing that we have to keep in mind, though, is that we don't know how far along OS 10 Server for Intel is. They have dedicated a lot of resources to making sure the Client version works well, but who knows how well all of the additional applications that come with OS 10 server run... That, more than the hardware, may be what is delaying the XServe.

Don't forget they have to pay for their healthcare too. I've never understood how anyone can go to the doctor. I just say that because I come from a country with public healthcare, so I don't really understand I suppose.

Edit:
Good point longofest.
Gotta keep our eyes on the prize!

In my observations most people who are working wait staff type positions arent trying to support themselves. These are typically the types of jobs one has when they are still in school, most people don't make a career out of it.

Plus one can get a large amount of $$ in tips, which is tax free to those who don't cliam it as income.

Stay focussed, stay awake, stay on target....

About 1.5 hours to go now, you can do it.

I'm off to peel me an apple and put another DVD on, maybe Anchorman.
