I never seen anybody using video chat...
Because there's not a device like the iPhone implementing it, that's why. It would bring it mainstream.

WWDC IS NOT FOR CONSUMERS. APPLE HISTORICALLY DOES NOT RELEASE NEW HARDWARE DURING WWDC.No Blu-Ray support? No DVD Studio 5 (with Blu-Ray encoding)? No Mac updates? No new hardware? Kind of lackluster if you ask me.
Thank god I waited... 3G and GPS were the functions I wanted before switching. I feel bad for everyone who dropped 600 dollars on an iPhone thinking they'd get good value selling them used. I think a 2G iPhone is probably going to be worth 80 dollars on craigslist, tops.![]()
The price of the hardware, yes, but we still have no idea what the carriers will do. For all we know, AT&T may increase their data plan from $20/month to $40/month.Uh, dude, the price of the phone went down.![]()
MMS and video recording can be solved with third party apps. iChat will be addressed once the AT&T exclusivity contract is expired. A great update, overall, with the potential to grow continuously and exponentially. The Keynote will be available after 5:00 PM EDT.
Of course it will. When syncing your iPhone in iTunes, it will say "a new software update is available," which will be 2.0.
It will be free on the iPhone and be pre-loaded on all new iPhone. It will cost $9.95 on the iPod touch but should also be pre-loaded on all new iPod touch.
You realize the reason why iChat wasn't debuted today was because of the Push Notification System they just announced and won't be ready until September. An IM applicaiton IS coming, the system just isn't in place for it right now.

For now... This is changing. At least with AT&T, the 3G network is growing and will continue to grow stronger and stronger. Chances are good that most people who are buying the iPhone already live in metropolitan areas where 3G access is available. Almost every major city has at least some 3G network. While people talking about 3G, FYI - 3G is only available in metropolitan area and there surrounding cities. Outside that. 2.5G(EGDE).....I'm with the other guy. Apple doesn't hype anything, so why diss them??? Who uses video chat in the US?? Maybe I got broke friend and associates and I'm in Austin, TX, a technology town and I never seen anybody using video chat...
Folks, nothing's changed!
This is classic Apple Butthole-ology (in layman's terms): release LESS than what you expect, reap a maximum profit from it, then upgrade that same product 6 months later with all the features you expect and demand and deserve....at a premium price!!!
Relax. Be patient. This is what they do. This is how they operate.

Seriously, dude...I don't usually even respond to people like you. I just let you have your say and move on---yanno, like civilized people are supposed to do!! No, seriously. No reply necessary. And if you can't be man (or it is transgender?) enough to do so, then I will! Watch n see. When you reply to this comment I won't respond back. Watch.
if you look many of us are asking for OLD technology that was available on smartphones in 1999.

Sorry, but if our horribly self-obsessed cell phone culture turned into a bunch of people yelling into their phones on a video conference at Starbucks I'd open a vein--and not necessarily mine.
thats cool
i have a 1.1.4, when i upgrade it o 2.0 will i have GPS, or the gps thing will be only on the 3G iphone?
Well,
I'm a little dissapointed.
- No Front camera for video calls
- Same old rubbish 2MP camera
- No Flash
- No Video Recording
- No MMS Support
- Not much thinner at all
- No more memory
-
I love my current iPhone and this doesn't do anything to make me wanna buy one. The locate feature is already good, so i'm not that excited about GPS!
Say it with me..."TWO HUNDRED DOLLARS"..."TWO HUNDRED DOLLARS"...well
So why bash it for not having it? Steve turned this company around, so I trust what he is doing. Steve was the first to take 3.5 floppy disk away and look now no computer comes with them. Maybe he's trying to do away with MMS so people can email...

Is this why their stock is down more than 4% today? Some of the replies on this topic are ridiculous.
Apple don't owe you anything; it's called capitalism, economics, supply and demand. If you bought your iphone for nearly $600 last year and it's now worth $75, too bad. That's the way it is with disposable items such as mobile phones.
Apple's share price is going to keep going up and up if they continue to do the things they are doing: appealing to a mass market. They don't care that you helped the company get where you are today because you've been buying Apple products since 1984. They care about the millions of people who will be turned onto Apple products with this new launch. When millions more people have iphones, millions more will consider switching to Mac computers. Pretty good strategy if you ask me. They have a fiduciary duty to shareholders, and they will make good on that duty, have no doubt. If that means p'ing some geeks off, tough luck.
I wish I'd bought Apple shares today, as they are going to shoot up tomorrow.
ok, what if i'm not trying to DIAL the number (not even discussing the other myriad of uses for copy/paste)? for instance, in business, many emails go something like "do you have so and so's contact info?" It's a staple of doing business. and what is a "smartphone" if not a mobile, business/personal networking device? keeping you in touch at all times. yet it STILL cannot do one key thing that, reiterating, their main competition has been able to do for several years!
in no way, shape or form in the year 2008 should i have to MEMORIZE ANY INFO on my "SMARTphone". never.
