iPhone in Mexico

Good to see that Apple is becoming a global company, we got apple.com/mx, soon iPhone availability, we are missing music store and they could also open a Development Lab in Guadalajara (the Mexican Sillicon Valley), if they need some help to improve Mac OS/X :)

looking forward to hearing more about 10.6
Did you read the bulletin that Apple posted? It appears that two major new technologies in Snow Leopard are QuickTime X and "Grand Central." Interestingly, these are likely going to the major new features of 10.6, but they aren't things that can easily be marketed.

Hilarious.

All the minimum wage-earning, fly-by-night Apple bandwagon jumpers are ecstatic...just read all their positive comments and feedback!!

All the true Apple connaisseurs who wanted more, demanded more, expected more...and who were willing to pay more for the priviledge are pissed!!

Though I don't entirely agree with your opinion, you're making a good point.

In the world of computers, when someone posts that Apple should really a $499 laptop or a $299 desktop running a full version of OS X that would sell so quickly they'd have to double the staff at most Apple Stores, they're immediately shot down and told that it would be a bad idea because 1) it would cannibalize margins 2) Apple wants to create a prestige product and doesn't need sales from Joe Walmart and his family and 3) it would sacrifice QC and production quality too much.

When the same thing happens with the phone - as it's doing now - it's suddenly the best thing since sliced bread.

What gives?

An extremely disappointing WWDC

For many reasons...

The 'new' iPhone is simply a poor 'catch up'. The apps are boring and trivial - a phone is to make calls and nowadays to take photos / videos. The camera on the iPhone is an absolute JOKE.

What SHOULD have happened:

iPhone

- Partnering with optics company for a new camera comparable or BETTER than the Nokia N95 8GB phone / N96
- Flickr integration with camera
- Custom navigation software using inbuilt GPS (Drive / Walk like Nokia's new 'maps'
- Front camera for ichat / other IM
- Skype for iPhone

Others launches should have been:

- Aluminium MacBook with enhanced chipset, backlit keyboard and option to have graphics card

This is a REAL let down from Apple...unbelievably bad. I feel like crying

All the self-righteous douchebags who care about nothing but status and will no longer be fawned over by the masses are pissed.

All the down-to-earth Mac zealots are happy to see good progress in technological prowess and price.

Grow up and stop trying to compensate for something. There's always these.

I for one am disappointed in the keynote. The whole thing focused around the iPhone which is not even available to over 66% of the nation using Verizon and Sprint (Me).

The iPhone IS INDEED AVAILABLE to 100% of the nation.

The iPhone has been out for a year, and talked about for 1.5 years. So if you signed a 2 year agreement with another carrier in the past 1.5 years, shame on you.

If you really wanted one, you should have at most 6 months (5 months on July 11th) on your 2 year contract with someone else, and if you really really wanted one, you could break your contract (for $200 or so) and buy an iPhone 3G and still spend less than most of us did when we bought our iPhones a year ago.

deception

...despite the glitzy presentation and all the supposedly neauvaux features (both of which are debatable lol) the only thing Apple guaranteed today was a lower grade of consumer buying its product.

Period.

Wirelessly posted (Mozilla/5.0 (iPhone; U; CPU like Mac OS X; en) AppleWebKit/420.1 (KHTML, like Gecko) Version/3.0 Mobile/4A102 Safari/419.3)

I was just watching Kramer on CNBC talking about Apple and the new iPhone. He said he was really anticipating a revolutionary upgrade to the iPhone. He says ' Cmon Steve! You've got to be kidding, no video iChat? ' that would have knocked everyone off their feet! Nothing really revolutionary about the new design.

Okay, yeah, we got a 3G iPhone with GPS, something we should've got with iPhone 1.0, but okay. Yes, now we can have programs running on the iphone. Great. But what did we actually GET today? Nothing released today, not even a new app. No new Macs, not even a maybe on a touch device. 10.6, not even shown off. Why? Because there's nothing new in it. I am glad they're upgrading it, but with no new features, why is anyone going to get it? They'll just wait till 10.7. Leopard is great. It doesn't lock up or have any viruses (yet). I don't think I'll be expecting a Mac soon that can handle 16TB of ram. Then, the iPhone doesn't have MMS, doesn't have front camera, doesn't even do cut and paste. No new iLife. Okay maybe I'm just getting old, but I remember these keynotes having so much stuff in them it was ridiculous. I mean, they'd pump out a new Mac, new OS, new iLife, new consumer and pro apps, all kinds of stuff. Now, it's an HOUR a FULL HOUR of SDK demos of ho hum iPhone apps...THAT WE'VE ALREADY SEEN AT THE LAST APPLE EVENT!!!! And, I fell asleep in that one too! Let's face it, there was only MAYBE 20 minutes of actual keynotey goodness in here. Come on, Steve! Where's the Wow?
To say that Snow Leopard has no new features is not technically correct. Both QuickTime X and "Grand Central" appear to be moving OS X into hardware accelerated and GPU-based computing, something that was seen in Vista's Aero Glass. This is a good direction to go. This frees up the CPU and allows it to manage other areas of the OS. Sure, Snow Leopard won't have new "marketable" features, but it could still turn out to be an important release as any other.

That said I was still hoping for some Mac Product updates like new redesigned MBP and MB's..

This is a DEVELOPER'S conferance. People there don't care so much about if a notebook gets a new CPU stuck inside or not. They are asking questions like "How can I use this new push notification feature?" and "I wonder when I need to care about resolution independance?" But still I'm surprized he did nt even skim over some new things that might be in 10.6, All he said was they would go over that "after lunch".

I am pissed off and disappointed after owning an iPhone since the first day... I can't believe that Apple doesn't listen to us. At $199 they are going to sell 5 million phones in a week to new customers... That's all they care for... But how about the old customers who expected a lot more after a year of stupid rumors and useless fake pictures. Isn't Apple listening? My $499 iPhone dropped to $399 and now it's going to be worth $49 on eBay when the new one comes out. I will probably keep it as a back up, just in case but it pisses me and a dozen of my friends that we have nothing really special besides the 3G to upgrade to. Or should it be DOWNgrade, since my phone cost me double only 11 months ago...

I own an iphone too and am not the least bit pissed off...I can't wait to get my grubby little hands on that 3G iphone!

thats the price of the tech industry...you want the latest and greatest? you gotta pay and you know its going to come down in price....see HD TVs, DVDs, soon to be blu ray players, anything.

want someone to blame? don't blame apple for IMPROVING its hardware and trying to get it out to MORE people, so it can make more money to better its products, blame yourself for having to have the first edition of the iphone.

I have a shampoo recommended for you...its called "johnson and johnson no more tears"

Wifi/Cell-Tower "location" might as well just tell me that I'm in America for hellsakes.

that was frickin hilarious

I'm not getting an iPhone. You know why? Because I can't copy and paste a number into my phonebook once a month

umm when you get a new number you just touch it then you "create a new contact" there is no need for copy and paste for that...

The same that has been around for years but in a nicer package. Big Deal.

really? there is another mobile phone with 3G, GPS, touch screen, camera, and 16 gigs of storage for years? where the hell have I been? must of been under a rock  find me another phone that has 16 gigs of storage and in the united states (asians have crazy phones over there with like 8 megapixel cameras and such, to bad our phones are behind theirs)

...but this was a the most disappointing WWDC in years. No hardware updates at all? Where is a revised MB or MBP where is a MBA with Atom in it?

iphone got a hardware update so looks like that statement is wrong and the new MB and MBP were "rumors" were the notebooks just not upgraded? that one guy is right its so hard to please people

"iphone doesn't have cut and paste I'll never get one" yeah but I'm sure your phone can't store 16 gigs of info and is a touch screen either

have fun copying and pasting...I'll be in the future.

No new hardware updates? None? Just gonna let the Mac Mini languish in its own fetid obsolescence? No Macbook (& Pro) announcements for Montevina Centrino2? Not even something small like a 9800GX2 option for Mac Pro? Or 320GB drive option for Macbook Pro? Nothing?????

And is the iPhone still tied to AT&T service? That's soooo 2002. Where's the unlocked iphones? If I can't use it with my Tmobile service, it's useless for me. I'm not changing carriers just to buy a silly phone. Get with the program here Apple.

What a let down. :(

Leaked Images

Also of note, none of the "leaked" photos circulating before the event were accurate

What about the icns file that was included in the 10.5.3 update? It looks almost identical to the new iPhone look.

Wired article found here, originated from a MacRumors forum posting.

good deal for new users...

I think the iPhone announcements were great for people holding out for an iPhone with 3G. Incredibly great price with contract. Perhaps not so good for current iPhone owners who want to upgrade.

An AT&T exclusive phone is far from available to 100% of the nation for any number of reasons, from reception to price to simple consumer grudges...

Agreed. I mean, it's nice that the price is lower, but it's almost like it cheapens the brand. I would have gladly paid $499 for the features they offered, now the iPhone doesn't feel as special.

Any such MacBook update will come later in the year or at Macworld. Frankly, you should have known better that WWDC is NOT about consumers. It is a DEVELOPER CONFERENCE. The ONLY reason Apple even released the new iPhone at WWDC is because the iPhone is just that... a platform for developers. It's the same reason WWDC has also been used to launch the Mac Pro and new Xserve.

iphone upgrade is great. I probably won't get one though, maybe an itouch when they are updated in September.

was hoping for a mac mini and ACD update, but alas, iphone centric it was.

i wonder if 10.6 will be a paid upgrade?

I am overall disappointed, I want more mac news, not iphone news.

Not only that, but we no longer have to rely on Apple to keep the software on the iPhone fresh - the iPhone platform will be gifted with some of the most talented developers in the world, i.e. Mac OS X developers, creating some absolutely incredible stuff. I'm stupidly excited!
What I read in the announce was
"Rather than focusing primarily on new features, Snow Leopard will enhance the performance of OS X, set a new standard for quality and lay the foundation for future OS X innovation."

Translation: Dudes, we sold you a beta version of Leopard, now we will sell the real final one. Good day idiots and prepare your money.

Not so good iphone

Well,

I'm a little dissapointed.

- No Front camera for video calls
- Same old rubbish 2MP camera
- No Flash
- No Video Recording
- No MMS Support
- Not much thinner at all
- No more memory
-

I love my current iPhone and this doesn't do anything to make me wanna buy one. The locate feature is already good, so i'm not that excited about GPS!

I want an iPod. AT&T sucks here. And I don't want to pay $100 more for the iPod than I would for the same thing plus a phone.

Just look at it this way - that awesome iPod Touch is like $20,000 less than a BMW.

See, I can compare the prices of two totally different products too!
