Ah, video chat, blah. I think my roommate has it right, that really won't take off. You'll end up talking while looking up some one's nose. I know a lot of people were looking forward to that but I was kinda hoping somewhere in there that the rumor of free mobile me would be right (Though I didn't think it would be, it was getting to be a strong rumor).

I remember reading an article about why video calling hadn't taken off. It spoke of the difficulty of the situation due to being able to see the person, but not being able to see all of the person, so you completely miss all the gestures and movements that are part of face to face chat. So what you end up with is being able to see the other person, but it adding absolutely nothing to the conversation because all you see is their face. It also makes holding the device for a lengthy call more tiring, and there's something a bit unsettling about knowing someone can see you but them not actually being there.

Wifi only is lame. Sounds worse the more I think about it.

If its WiFi only, my laptop is likely around and would probably do better on a video chat or Skype video call.

"We need to work a little bit with the carriers". Notice the plural.

they have always had more than 1 carrier.

iphone to iphone only, also only over wifi pretty much kills this for me. I'll just finish my 2 years and get next years model.

Wow, people able to see each other while talking sign language. cool or what?

Seriously, just give us something. Update the over a year old Mac Pro, introduce Safari 5 or at least mention the cat name for 10.7.

Why the HELL are they going over **** they already discussed at the April event?

Didn't you hear? Apple isn't going to make computers anymore, just iPads and iPhones. /sarcasm

Yeah, I didn't read that article but I know that the ability has been out for a while. I heard other countries outside of the US this had been around for quite a while. But it just never took off and people forgot about it it seemed (and didn't really care so much anymore).

I mean when I was a kid you'd see the idea in sci fi stories all the time. Now you really don't see it pushed so much in science fiction as anything important (science fiction being of the time being a good indicator of what people are hoping/fear for the future at that time).

Good, enough with the iPhone, let there be a second act about Macs. I know it's been 1:40 but come on.

wifi only means apple will have a huge database on the backend of all the iphone imei's etc to route the calls. i imagine they will use this for other apps and open it up to developers. expect some cool apps to take advantage of this

Bleah. I was hoping for a upside surprise.
So far, only surprise is Wifi only video chat.
I guess gyro is a surprise.
Price is good, $199 for 16GB. You actually get more for less with Apple's iPhone.

Its the value leader and cheapest solution. Can you believe thats Apple? But the HTC EVO on Sprint is more functional, more powerful, more capable device.

Price remains the same. $199 for 16GB, $299 32GB.
I would happily pay $100+ more for 64GB :(

June 24th? is that for the new iphone or the 3GS for $99? 199 & 299 isn't too bad. much expected.

EDIT: Hell yeah!

Att

So, All we have to do to get decent reception is to tell everybody to turn off their laptops and wifi and to turn off their phone. Sounds like a good deal to me. sign me up
