In an unusual move, it appears Apple will be transmitting the WWDC Keynote Address on June 23rd, 2003. Reliable reports indicate that the Keynote will be shown live at U.S. Apple Stores with theatres. There have also been reports that there is a special event in Berlin (invite-only) which is offering a live feed of the same.

While there has been no definitive word on a live-webcast this year, there are indications that it will be available as a stream after the fact at the very least. (Note: Last year's WWDC Keynote was not web-cast.)

Other hints of things to come, include plans for significant Apple Store product-display changes in the week after WWDC, which has historically occurred with new product releases. Meanwhile, MacWorld.co.uk quotes Apple's Casanova who promises that people expecting "good things" at WWDC "will not be disappointed".

I may have my fireworks in one hand and a shootgun ready with a plane ticket to LA on the other hand. Jobs... you choose:mad:

Parade or riot.

A keynote broadcast, "good things" promised, store reconfigurations . . . this *has* to be the release of 970's.

Bring 'em on, and a redesigned 20" display to boot!

That sounds like fun :D Cram a bunch of Mac geeks in the Mac Stores across the country tring to get the first glimpse of the PPC970's. (Pure speculation, sure... But why would they have a presentation in the Mac Stores if we are NOT going to get something cool?)

Edit: What time is Keynote? I know it is in the morning, but is it like at 8amEST or something?

WWDC is in San Francisco, 400 miles away from LA! We have enough nuts already here, so don't think about actually coming to LA, thank you.

... an then they just show a preview of Panther! :D

I don't wonder that they are planning to renovate and change the stores, because after the riots of the geeks there won't be a lot left of the stores!!! ;)

So it all makes sense, just depends on how you bring together the puzzle peaces... ;)

Thats it, CONFIRMED! Thay will be showing the 970 and announcing when the new Hardware will be available. They have to show the 970, how else to talk to the developers about 64-bit etc Panther. If the goods weren't ready then they would do it behind closed doors, but if its public it has to mean shipping systems within a month (perhaps an Apple month-kind of like the opposite of February) or less.

I think Hypertransport rumors confirmed 970 talk at WWDC.... but yes, the question is shipping when?

Confirmation...?

Threats of riots are obviously a bit overstated but it's finally good to get some real confirmation. After all the hype, it would be a colossal blunder on Apple's part to crowd their stores with eager geeks and then say "And here's the next great operating system, which will hit stores in September!"

Now if only there was an Apple Store in MY town...

I see your point, but even before that it always seemed to me that if they were going to talk to developers about the new OS, 64-bit computing, the 970 etc, then they had to tell them their plans to use the chips. So to me it was always a question of whether this would occur in private under NDA or public. If its public, then the 970 is out of the bag and they better have some system to sell if they don't want to have sales all but halt. I've felt for some time that the lack of Apple's attempts to quell the rising tide of 970 speculation has ment that the chip is coming at WWDC. (I'm not count ing Apple legals recent moves, that came too late.) All they had to do would be to say "Come to WWDC and see what's new in Apple SOFTWARE." Many possible subtle hints from Apple could have put a damper on things, but that didn't happen. And now this news.... If I'm wrong, then I do expect riots in the Mac community.

Man, if Apple doesn't release 970's at WWDC they're are going to be a lot of bumbed people. This little hint looks a dead giveaway (remerchandising the store hint).

For the people in Philly. How far away is King of Prussia from philly? Looks like I'll be back east for two months when these nice lovies come out.

Well, I'm not quite sure what a shootgun is, but you wouldn't be allowed on a plane with any type of gun. You'd make the papers for trying though.

As for the announcement of new Power Macs at WWDC, if they are 970's I hope they do something like radically drop the prices on the current line of Power Mac G4s. I mean if the 970 is supposed to be cheaper to manufacture, with the availability of a cheaper machine, no one will want a dual 1.42gh G4 even at $1000. less than current prices if the top end 970 sells for the same. And I don't think Apple wants all of the current stock of G4s sitting on the shelves gathering dust as everyone buys a 970. Perhaps, they will price the G4s low enough and the 970s high enough at first to clear out the current stock and then drop the prices on the 970s.

The wording of this article makes it sound like it's been confirmed by Apple that the keynote will be broadcast in the stores... but there is no source cited?

Where did this info come from? if it's just a rumour, then it should be clearer in the article...

I don't think so...

If you can get a dual 1.42GHz PowerMac for less than an iMac with 1 processor at 1 GHz they will sit on their iMacs then instead.

I think they will just bit into the lemon to be stuck with a certain amount of old PowerMacs, since people will be buying the 970s liek crazy anyway it shouldn't hurt too much..
