As far as the source of the info, are we talking about the same thing?? Look at what the article says:

Macworld asked: "So, people who are expecting good things at the conference will not be disappointed?"

"No, they will not be disappointed," Casanova said, firmly.

OK. So obviously no one is doubting the fact that MacWorld actually interviewed this high-level Apple employee, right? And that Apple employee is probably somewhat aware of what "people" are "expecting", right? That in itself is enough to convince me that they are at least demoing 970s and announcing availability in a reasonably short time.

Now the rumor part of this is what arn is telling us, re the unusual broadcast. Why is anyone expecting macrumors to reveal its sources?? That'd be a pretty dumb thing to do, wouldn't it. So we don't know that for sure; but we have a "reliable" rating of the rumor source (combined with macrumors' good rep), and it sure fits in with the heavier confirmation from the article. Again, good enough for me.

i hope they release new LCD's with built in Cameras for i chat video conferencing.

and built in 2 port usb 2 hub, also a light sensor on the frame of the lcd to light up the new full sized backlit desktop keyboard like on the pb 17

WWDC here I come!!!

Ohhh and I just happen to be going to WWDC....wonder how early I should be at the convention center to get in for the keynote ....gonna be like sitting outside TicketMaster waiting for the sale of tickets ...hjehheh can't wait...I am eagerly awaiting being part of history as Apple releases new hardware that will leap ahead of anything out there...lets hope they can KEEP it outfront ......

I think 6 PM London time, But the article says that it will be broadcast live at Apple Stores (of which there are none in Europe) with the strong possibility of a video of the keynote afterwards, like the music annoucements in late April. So I doubt you'll be doing anything at 6 PM besides checking MacRumors. :)

I thought some of you would be interested in counting down to Steve Jobs WWDC keynote on the 23rd June, so take a look at www.3cmug.co.uk its at the bottom of the page.
Not long now :D !!

If you want to use it on your site, please e-mail the webmaster of 3cmug first (webmaster@3cmug.co.uk)

(Keynote does start at 6PM in the UK btw)

Whee-hoo! I've got a good feeling about this keynote...
Apple Store Woodfield here I come!

Well, there actually were live streams of the music announcements. Not by Apple, but that doesn't matter too much. I admit that there won't be non-Apple streams this time probably, but one never knows...

Yes, that is true-there was no live Apple live stream to the public. However, I do remember how sad it was as I tried to watch it live via MSNBC. :(

Dallas Infomart Apple Office

I've been trying to get a hold of the Apple sales offices at the Dallas Infomart to see if they will be carrying it in their uber-nice theatre room but I cannot seem to find the correct number or an email for them. I've seen 2 events there, a MacWorld keynote and the Final Cut Pro 3 road-show and both required a sort of "reservation" as seating is limited.

The number that is in my old 1999 SBC White Pages (which is the number that the InfoMart front desk gives me) always comes up busy.

Any other DFW locals have any info on them?

I'll just head for Plano (WillowBend) and watch it there with the masses otherwise. (Already told my manager that I'm taking the whole day off! :D )

Wow, what other kinds of strange things are happening in the sphere of computing IN BIZARRO WORLD? So, Premiere is attracting SO many people to PCs, cuz it ROCKS and stuff? Wacky.

See, here in the real world, the OPPOSITE of that is happening -- crazy, eh? Yeah, in our world, FCP has pretty much risen to the top of inexpensive yet professional video editing systems.

Anyone wanna buy me a ticket to WWDC:p

Every day it seams the 970 rumors are more and more true... i hope we aren't getting our hopes up just to see a 1.6GHZ G4

i had a comfirmation yesterday (before i saw this post actually) from one of the employees of the woodfield store (pyrotoaster im going to be there too) and she said the keynote would be address and then she asked me twice if i wanted to buy the power mac i was using. the first time i said i was waiting until next year when i knew if I had gotten the RA position I am applying for and that I didnt have enough room on my credit card. Then she came back and said that I could take an Apple Loan and get the education price. to quote spongebob squarepants IM READY IM READY IM READY too bad its a week away. ARRRRRRRRR

Chris

PS. i think part of why WWDC is being broadcast is because of No MWNY. so there will be some consumer information. if not we can riot.

Bring it on Apple...Bring it on.

I really hope there is a webcast of the keynote....then again, I hope my computer at work can reliably stream it (government computer...has to go though a government proxy/firewall :( )

Stevie J., don't disappoint us now! :p

Panther

Regardless, for me, the big news IS Panther, however long it takes to get. Panther, and not any speeds or specs, is what will keep me from ever going Wintel. I am anxious for Panther details!

EDIT: What if Panther, all by itself, is big enough to deserve a broadcast? That could be even more exciting than getting 970s earlier than the fall.

I completely agree. I still run an iMac 400, with 10.2. It's far, far, far slower than the sort of PC I could get for even just $300, and when I replace it, I could get an iMac at about 1ghz (pro machines are out of my price range) or a PC at about 3ghz, with a bigger monitor, more memory, bigger hard disk, better graphics card. I'll be getting the Mac, though. Why? OS X. That's all that keeps me using Apple now. Speed just isn't as important as a beautiful, functional, enjoyable OS. I have to use Windows a fair bit, and I hate it. I was a Windows devotee for years, until I tried OS 8.6 one day. I haven't looked back. The speed gap would have had me switch back to PCs if it wasn't for OS X. When that came alone I knew I'd never willingly use anything else. I'm actually going to have to buy a cheap, mid-range PC to play Uru (and Doom III). I can get what I need for about $300. To buy a similar spec Mac would cost more than $2000, and it's barely be faster. If at all. Even if both those games were out on Mac, I'd still have to buy a PC. Why? I can't afford ot buy a new computer at >$1000 right now. I'll be saving, and when I have the cash I'll slap it down on the latest consumer Mac. But these 970s will be out of my price range for at least a year. It's not the beauty of the hardware that keeps me from switching, and even if Apple do release 970 this month, they'll still cost at least 1/3 more than similar spec PCs. But you pay for the extra quality and style. That's fine. It's not what keeps me here. It's OS X. So I'd not be suprised if Panther is all that's announced, nor would I be dissapointed. Sorry for the incoherant ramble, but heh.

Clearly this is a move of Apple thumbing its nose at IDG and the Macworld Expo. Think about it... Apple will be in a position to make what look to be MAJOR product announcements 2 weeks before Macworld NY in July. Going forward Apple may have 2 events in which to see a SteveNote = MYSF in January, and WWDC in June, as well as ocassional random press events (eg. iTunes Music store)

Even tho WWDC is a developer conference, i see no reason why Apple can't not combine both developer and product release in one event quite nicely. So IDG now gets one conference instead of 2. Seems to me that expos are definetly beginning to die out now that all new product info is instantly accessable online anyway, and it costs a TON of $ for those expos - I can not even imagine what Apple's 'booth' must cost in real dollars.

I love it! Here's the headline:

"Crazed MacUser taken into custody after bitter disappointment following Apple's failure to release 970's at WWDC!"

oh boy

I looked at the schedule for that day, and first they have the keynote, and then a break, and then they have "OS X State of the Union". This to me says that the keynote won't be so much about OS X, because they have a whole other section blocked out for just that. Maybe I'm off on this, but it seams like one more thing pointing in the direction of the 970 release...

NY/NJ area info

Just got off the phone with a couple of stores around NY/NJ. YES, there are in-store broadcasts, but not at every store.

SoHo: Of course.
Tice's Corner: Yes.
Short Hills: No -- they're a theater store, but they don't have a satellite.
Menlo Park: No -- they're not a theater store.

Glad I have the day off . . . 50-mile drive or not, I'll be at Tice's! :D
