I didn't read through the 400 some replies, but Safari 3 works fine for me. The other thing I noticed is that it went through all my book marks, found certain websites that had AIM bots attached to them, and automatically added them to my iChat.

Now I have this Prof Gilzot (??), WSJ (Wall street), ShareThisDotCom (Whatever that is), Spleak (??), Moviefone, and that's it.

This happened to me too, but i've only installed Safari 3 on Windows, on a machine at work, with no access to AIM or iChat or even any knowledge of my iChat login, so i dont think this is safari related.. I'm a little worried though :S What the hell added these to my iChat? :/

Has anyone got any solution for the blank menus?

Submitted a bug report,

Yep, it seems to be caused by having too many fonts on your computer. There's a fairly-simple fix for it listed in the Apple Discussions Forum. I too had this problem but managed to fix it with a bit of help from the Apple Discussions Forum.

Still not very impressed with Safari for Windows, I agree with a lot of other users; feels more like an Alpha release.

anyone else having issues with ichat after installing the safari beta? When i type a message in ichat and hit enter, it takes about 8 seconds for the message to show up in the chat window.

Oops!

I'll re-word it: All serious web developers will use Firefox as their main development tool.

developers should actually use the weakest browser, that way it insures a website works on all browsers, developers always moving to the biggest best browser tend to cause all the "well my browser can't see that or yours cant see this" problems

Wrong. I'm a serious/professional web developer. I use Safari.

And then Firefox. Which usually (but not always) works identically to Safari.

And then, finally, IE (during which I hold my head and repeat "Woe is me" over and over.)

As for the web development tools: the only tool I tend to use is Webkit's Inspect Element tool, and the Javascript console for finding where bugs happen in javascript.

(Then again, I've always been weird, so I suppose if you changed it to "most serious web developers" might be correct. And, by not using Firefox, I may not know what I am missing.)

I'll re-word it: Most professional web developers will use Firefox as their main development tool - of course they'll test it on all browsers including Exploder.

Yes!

I definitely am. It seems like a very odd problem to have, but it's happening.

I'm excited about the prospect of warming up more PC users to Mac apps, but I prefer Firefox over Safari by a pretty wide margin.

Of the sites I use the most, Firefox seems to display them better than Safari. (nytimes.com in particular looks terrible on Safari.)

The other reason is Foxmarks, which keeps my PC and Mac bookmarks perfectly synced. AFIK, you would need to buy .Mac to get Safari to do the same thing. Even if there's a workaround, I still like Firefox better.

Looks like we already have people coming up with vulnerabilities of the Safary browser for windoes. Some of these guys will not be informing Apple, instead the will use it.

Story: Safari for Windows not so
secure<http://news.com.com/8301-10784_3-9728500-7.html?tag=tb>

It is known the Month of Safari Bugs is being coordinated with elements of
the underground.

:D

I'm still using it at work (PC on XP) and I just installed it at home yesterday on my MBP, and I can say is that it's somewhat buggy, and SLOW.
Or it could be my crappy network here at the office - but I notice that loading pages is just plain slow.
Yeah, I just launched IE 7 and browsed MR and it's not as slow as Safari 3.
Kind of a dissapointment, but I'm still planning on using Safari 3 for now.

i installed on windows and i get no text on it at all, just buttons of blankness, web pages themselves r missing all sorts of stuff and if i hit the bug button the whole thing locks up then crashes, and this is a core 2 duo PC with 4 gigs of ram!

Safari Troubles

I've installed Safari 3.0 on my Windows PC, but it keeps on hanging and refuses to display any text, at all, even the menu controls on the top! Anyone know why this is happening?

Browsing nytimes.com with Safari 3 and Firefox I discern no dramatic differences between the two.

Are you certain you didn't mistype the address in Safari 3 and ene up at nytimez.com?

It's an easy mistake for a novice intertubes user to make.

I am using Safari 3 on Windows now and it is great. Nice to be using Safari again.

as mentioned before, most likely a "too many fonts" installed issue. go here for some info (scroll all the way down):

worked for me when all other suggestions failed (renaming resources file, deleting lucidia fonts, etc.)

It appears that it was just a coincidence: New AIM Bots (Courtesy of The Register)

I can't enter text in text fields in Safari 3 on OS X. It just jumps to the first letter found on the page that I type. Any ideas?

downloading...woohoo bye bye internet explore....!

j/k i meant firefox... if your still using internet explore you have a problem :D

$10 Apple released Safari for windows was to force web developers to begin to develop for Safari and make sure their sites are Safari compatable. So that when the iPhone comes out you dont have 10million pissed off iphone users who can't access certain websites...

Many Mac users have a PC and use Firefox on both to easily share bookmarks. This will also make more people on Mac use Safari as well.

Fine ... but I don't think the point of this was to give users another browser to play with... They are trying to make Safari have a serious dent on browser market share... Once the iPhone is released if some website aren't Safari ready, people are going to be pissed. This will force developers to design for Safari if the marketshare can be increased.

Why can't Safari (even the newest one) display the new Yahoo Mail

Sorry if this subject has already been beaten to death in other forums, but why isn't Safari able to display the new Yahoo! Mail interface, or for that matter, the built-in Google Talk client on the Gmail webpage??!

To this day, these are the main reasons why I just can't get into using it, and in my opinion is a huge impediment to the group of users who use both those email services (i.e. the majority). I was hoping the new beta would have taken care of these issues but it seems like it doesn't... unless there's some setting I haven't toggled or something I'm missing. Any thoughts?

BTW, I've been using Firefox on the Mac quite happily and love it for all the extensions available, but you know... it'd be nice to get to know Safari since it will be the default browser on my future phone :p
