Screen shot of it on Windows Vista Ultimate:

I'm really not too keen. It doesn't look, feel, or behave at home at all.

edit: FYI, I didn't get asked to reboot. You guys that did, XP or Vista?

that looks pants!! lol.. well.. on a vista machine anyway - doesn't quite have the right look!!

I did XP and didn't have to reboot. Did you do Quicktime or not?

and I'm fast coming to the same conclusion you did. It doesn't feel quite right. It'll do when I have to use a PC browser, but I do prefer browsing on my PowerBook.

seems quite good to me, although on my older pb (see sig), it finds it a little difficult to drag tabs to make windows...it manages eventually though! Also, my new safari has the same brushed metal look, is this the same with everyone who installs it on a mac?

Solution Is To Make Sure Your Safari Is NAMED Safari

can anyone tell me why I can't install it? it's telling me that "Mac HD" doesn't meet system requirements. i've def. got the required 50 mb of space... more like 150 gb... but it still won't let me install  :( :(

I WANT TO USE SAFARI! help!
I had renamed mine to Safari2 and when 3 wouldn't install I renamed it back to Safari and made a Duplicate. Then the installer works.

Hmmmm...I had a whole post typed up, but apparently it doesn't want to let me post it.... :(

Original Post: ~60MB RAM, seems VERY responsive and fast, tries to look like it's part of Windows while maintaining a Mac look-and-feel....I don't love it, but it's Safari, so I'll stick it out :)

Edit: getting lots of weird (hopefully beta) problems...rendering issues mostly, or failed form submissions, etc. Will need to use a bit longer, though before i can say anything definitive.

I used it for about 10 minutes on Windows. It crashed twice and wasn't that fast. Plus no adblock and the UI is ****.

I'll stick with firefox.

how much memory does it take?
is app responding fast?
hows general feeling?
77MB  With the now static MRLive in one tab and Google in another and I'm not using it at all. Crikey. Hopefully this is just a beta thing. Though no browsers are really great anyway.

Doesn't seem as fast as FF2 to me, plus it resizes horribly and just doesn't feel like it belongs. Best way I can describe how it looks and how it responds is in the same way purely java apps do. They never feel quite like they're a part of everything else around them and have a bit of lag.

I'm quite happy with Firefox for now on my Windows box, so I think I'll just stick with it for the time being, until the Safari beta becomes a little more solid and receives a couple updates. I'm sure many bugs will be found (hence why it is a beta) so I'll jump on board in a few months...

In the meantime, just as long as I'm not using IE, I'm happy! :D

Seems great for me so far. I absolutely LOVE the new search feature. You can also restore your tabs from your last session, which is very cool, and something that's been missing from Safari for a while now.

Only thing I'd still love to see in Safari 3.0 is when you click on a link that opens a new window, that it would open in a new tab instead.

Overall, though, I love it! Can't wait for Leopard!

I installed it (OS X) and restarted. Now Safari will not open. I just get the unexpectedly quit pop up every time I try and open Safari

all normal text looks like ________________

so i see _________ picture __________ picture LARGE FONTS _________ etc etc.

changing font size doesnt help.

Just as I guessed, apple has a bad habit of thinking windows app should be just like osx app. get rid of boated code and make it looks like a windows app, breaking windows UI guideline will make the program suffer, maybe the page loading speed is fast, but the app itself would be slow and un-usable.

BUT

ANyway, I will try for meself later tonite.:D

U know, I thought apple would learn after iTunes/QT's slow behavior on windows, but when I saw your screenshot, I suddenly found out apple is doing it again!, Jesus. Apple is inserting safari into windows rather than "native-lize" it, its not a good way to go.

Just installed it, so don't have any evaluations, as yet. Please, just don't someone say "it's snappier". :)

do you have any third party safari hacks installed? safari stand, pith helmet, etc..?? that would probably cause the problem you're having. at least, it used to for me, with recent webkit's.

Running it now on my iMac 24" and it seems to work ok. But honestly, doesn't look or run any differently than 2.0 other than I can drag tabs around.

Also, it's taking up 45mb in Real Memory and 463 in Virtual Memory....if that means anything to anyone.

I just wish they would allow new tabs on middle-clicking addresses from a menu like Firefox does. If it did that, I'd be happy. As it is, I have to open a new tab then click on the menu-address.

It seemed pretty zippy to me on the PC I tried it on, however it's a fresh windows install on a beefy box so it probably isn't a good measure.

and since when does Windows have a UI guideline?

The close buttons are on the wrong side (windows side) so it just doesn't feel right and without the menus on the top bar it just seems wrong...

I thought it was kind of nice at first now it just kind of feels dirty....

Is this just to spread awareness of OS X?
Whether it is or not, this is awesome.

Ok, that actually is pretty cool. The text field resize is cool too. Still curious about the brushed metal thing though. The screenshots of the Windows version show a new interface.

I don't get brushed metal, looks like iTunes ... this is an XP Pro install. No reboot required either.

lol, windows always has it.

To forcedly change the title bar, scroll bar and other UI elements through user-level codes, the app can't be as effective as it could be, I encountered several of these apps, such as MT2, Netscape 8, etc, sure when u have GB RAM and faster CPU, its ok, otherwise, they are SLOW.
