So that's the plan. Apple isn't going to beat Microsoft, they're just going to consume them by making all the Apple apps be a layer that runs on top of Vista. Pretty soon people will get sick of paying the MS tax and just buy Apples.

no, distance makes apple apps attractive, and up to now, all apple apps for windows are un-optimized when ported to windows, they are buggy, slow, and system resource consuming, Im afraid these unstable apps will cost apple its reputation.

i love it

downloaded new safari 3 and everything works great! definitely notice the faster speed. I can't wait for leopard!

My iMac C2D also crashed after install, but probably was due to the plugin I had.

I noticed that now the select menus can have CSS applied to them, instead of Aqua.

The new tabs are cool.

It installs but when I click on the shortcut...that happens (vista).

Here's a screenshot showing text rendering on Firefox vs Safari. Yes, I prefer the OS X rendering, but it can't be made this different from other windows apps.

Guess what else - you can't resize the windows except using the bottom right corner. If this is to catch on in any numbers at all in Windows, that has to change.

The find feature is very effective now. I found that before, when I searched for something on the page, much of the time I couldn't see the actual result. Now, Safari highlights it (and dims the page on some websites, but not others  ) and even does a little animation, so now it's easy to see the results.

The search bar is also similar to that of Firefox, I believe.

Pretty cool so far. The find feature (cmd+f) is nice. Still have a lot of testing and messing around to do.

Just installed Safari on my crappy Celeron-powered PC with XP.

1. Why is there no home-page button on the Safari toolbar by default. I had to go in and figure out how to install a home-page button, which I thought was standard issue on any web browser.

2. Safari is slowwww on my computer. I'm already back on Firefox.

3. That dark gray toolbar is hideous. Drab and depressing. Is there a way to customize for some color?

4. The text seems so fuzzy and lumpy compared to what I see on Firefox. I'd have to give the "Mac" browser look a lot of time before I could go for it.

Safari is a no-go for me.

I am using Safari right now. It looks a little grainy compared to firefox and IE. I am also unable to access my companies intranet with Safari.

crash during bookmarking

did anyone try to bookmark a page.. i am using xp sp1 ... safari crashes wheneveri try to bookmark a page.. crashed ten times in 5mins

google docs seems to be working...

google docs and spreadsheets seems to be working in the safari 3 beta on 10.4.9. the menu page opens without issue (which is new), and then when you open a document it says "oops, safari isn't supported" but the spreadsheets and documents i've opened and edited thus far seem to be working

I'm using it on XP Pro. One crash but pretty fast.

(1) hate the silver colour
(2) No icons on the shortcut bar
(3) fonts look blotchy - anyone know how to make it crisper?

Thanks

And yet iTunes is probably the most widely used music player app. I have a hard time reconciling "costing its reputation" with huge percentage of market share. I think this release is a great idea assuming they get out versions that work. For those owning and developing for iPhone, being able to run the same browser on a PC is hugely appealing.

better site rendering

I'm finding Safari 3 renders sites that I previously had to rely on IE for (under parallels) perfectly. No bugs so far!

I'm happy!

I did XP and didn't have to reboot.

Didn't have to reboot. But it won't work - it isn't auto-detecting the proxy, and when I go to advanced settings the "Change" button next to proxy is greyed out. So I can't surf anywhere outside the company. And the Safari help files don't even have an entry for Proxy. nice move. Still think FF looks better. (and I still hate that Safari won't display tabs unless you have two of them. how annoying).

sigh.
