I (and most others) stick to what Apple has said (which is all we know so far) until enough evidence is accumulated otherwise.

i don't know why people aren't mentioning upgrades for macbooks and macbook pros!

By then the alu macbooks will be totally outdated in their specs.

So if Apple have any sense then this event will focus largely on Macbook upgrades and Macbook Pro upgrades (if atleast the one that wasnt upgraded a few days ago). But to be honest I would hope that they have the new processors by then or some kind of quad cores for the MB Pros.

Iphone 3.0 will be out then im sure but as far as SL goes, I'm sure they will just give a public preview of it.

in my opinion...there are few reasons why steve would "officially" come back. Apple knows if he becomes CEO again, people will continue to ask what is the succession..what if that, what if this. Instead, I think he will become "senior adviser" to the CEO or some other pseudo title that is just a cover for his normal day-to-day apple work. Steve is very involved right now..and he will continue to be going forward...its just the titles that will change..but there is little reason for him to officially become CEO again.

Now, I've been reading about the possible Verizon iPhone at WWDC and was wondering-
1. Should I not bother waiting and get an iPhone (If possible) or iPod touch (more likely)
2. Should I wait until the conference and go from there
Did you see Verizon iPhone in 2009 Unlikely? With evidence like that, I wouldn't recommend waiting 3 months for the tiny chance that the rumor was based in fact and that you won't have to change carriers.

I'm going to guess that the WWDC will happen in June, and in the second week as speculated (8th-12th).

From what we know, Steve Jobs is on leave until June, although it might be the end of June, not the beginning. Still, I imagine he will return for the keynote.

Also, Apple's production cycle indicates that the iPhone gets updated June or July, which would make sense for the 3rd generation iPhone to be introduced too. iPods are updated in September, so I would say those are ruled out. The entire desktop line (Mac Mini, iMac, Mac Pro) has been updated, as has AirPort Extreme and Time Capsule. The Cinema Display, Apple TV and Snow Leopard are the other major things which haven't been updated in a while.

Thus, I'd say, after Steve Jobs returns and announces how it's great to be back and that "we've been working very hard and we have a lot to show you today", that the WWDC will focus on the TV/Cinema Display and iPhone. The first two will be introduced, and the iPhone will have plenty of time devoted to it. The "one more thing", if there is one these days, may well be a preview of Snow Leopard. Whilst I'd like to believe it will be the release of The Beatles on iTunes, that's highly unlikely because a) EMI would probably announce it, or b) it would be more suited for September and the music update. Either way, it probably won't happen.

So to summarise, I predict:

Steve Jobs returns for the keynote
1st half - New Apple TV model introduced
New Cinema Displays introduced to accompany new Apple TV
2nd half - iPhone 3rd gen, possibly an iPhone HD
"One more thing" - a preview of Snow Leopard
Music by...Adele? Anybody really.

Now I'm no expert when it comes to predicting these things, and I'm sure I'll be shot down for suggestions with an "EPIC FAIL", whatever that is, but these seem like logical guesses to me.

Precisely. Happens with other topics too. People post some claim as if it were fact with no evidence to back it up. Most of the time they're wrong.

I know you are tired of it and so am I.
There are a lot of people claiming to know the future and when they fail they either disappear or get defensive.

It would be best if they just realize the stuff their minds conclude is opinion and not fact, and it should be stated as such.

JOBS-iPHONE are probable.
Snow Leopard PREVIEW?? I hope not! You mean Snow Leopard release.

Music by Sesame Street.
Actually, U2 are pushing their boring brand of political sugar pills at the moment, so they might play up there.

I doubt that Snow Leopard will be shown on WWDC, I think it will be released earlier than that.

Apple has never released a major version of the operating system without a public presentation. Whether that's at WWDC (which considering Apple's history, it should be) or a Special Event, a presentation and ship date announcement will happen before Snow Leopard ships.

What is this example you are trying to portray? Its completely irrelevant. I never said, or meant, "he's sick that's it for him". I personally believe that his situation is far more serious that he has let on, and I also believe he never would have stepped down if he thought he had a chance.

I have an opinion like everyone else, and every right to express it. I'm sorry if it bothers you that I do not believe for one minute that Jobs will ever be back, but thats really really really....too bad.
And your opinion is based on no evidence, otherwise known as 100% pure speculation.

I'd like to see some innovative hardware. Apple needs something to grab the industry's attention again.

Sure they've had the iPhone which has been an incredible hit (makes me laugh watching Ballmer scoff at the idea before its release). And sure, Leopard has been amazing and I have no doubt Snow Leopard will improve things more. Makes you wonder though, as snow leopards cannot roar. Interesting name for an operating system with minimal new features.

What I really am itching to know is what OS XI will bring in a few years, assuming we don't go all the way to OS 10.9.

I still believe Apple hardware is a better class of technology, but it seems to be losing its luster. I don't know if anyone else feels that way. The only thing that really makes it great now is the operating system. The small hardware updates are growing old. I don't know what I'm expecting, perhaps mobile quad-core would be nice, though as I understand that's about Q4 2009 ~ Q1 2010 for Apple at earliest.

I'm also tending towards this point of view.

Emphasis added. Nehalem (Clarksfield, late 2009) will be the first time that mobile quad-core will be cool enough to fit in the MacBook and MacBook Pro. But that doesn't mean Apple will use quad-core, as evidenced by the lack of mobile quad-cores in the iMac.

......

I got through half of page two of the comments when I thought to myself, "Why do I read this CRAP?!?!?"

No one knows anything, until it happens. Of all of the analysts; armchair or "professional", 99% of them are dead wrong all of the time.

I'm betting Steve Jobs won't be present for WWDC and we'll see very few product announcements. If he's going to be out for medical reasons until June, it's hard to imagine him coming back and being able to get prepared on such short notice. Maybe he's up to it, but I'm thinking probably not, not after medical leave.

On top of that, it's apparent that they've been shifting the company image away from Jobs and shifting big announcements away from these kinds of events, so I think it would be a good time to have Phil Schiller and others give the keynote and not go too crazy with product announcements other than maybe showing off Snow Leopard and giving a release date. Won't raise any eyebrows and will further help shift the focus off Jobs and these events.

We'll probably see some special Apple campus events a month or so after Jobs comes back where the big product announcements will happen.

Even though I am excited for Snow Leopard, I think I'm actually a little more excited for iPhone OS 3.0 :D

Can't wait to upgrade the OS on my new MacBook Pro and my iPhone 3G around that time :)

Oh, and lets see Final Cut Studio 3 Apple!

surely the iPhone 3.0 will be running Snow Leopard seeing as it runs Leopard already? and the next iPhone is expected to be multithreading?

If he wasn't coming back, the shareholders have a legal right to know. The board would be sued.

Noone can predict illness and cancer, and so theres nothing to sue the board on. The board doesn't know how his cancer is progressing, thats patient doctor confidentiality...
However...faith in the company may drop a little, affecting their share price, but since they have a solid design and management team, mainly thanks to Steve, i think they will be fine as a company.

The iPhone already runs a form of Snow Leopard.

you mean Leopard, which it does. Snow Leopard is still in beta stage, and its pretty much a joke, even CS4 doesn't work on it properly, which i've tried myself, but it will be great when its finished.

Who thinks we will see Steve Jobs appear for at least a moment on the stage? Or at least word that he will return, say, before the end of the month?

"what do you know?"
"insert bs here"
"insert more bs here"

is REALLY annoying!! just stop it , PLEASE!

i have no problem with "legitimate" questions. but the question for steve's health doesnt help. it just doesnst make sense.

steve is not a "product" like the new iphone/mac whatever. speculate about whatever you like, but give the man a break. i accept that apeculations about new products are interesting, but that man is ill, not more and not less (hopefully).

give him the time he needs to recover and he will be back if he wants to; on which "position" doens't matter either.

I'm sure it will. Mac OS X and iPhone OS kind of go back and forth in lending features and technologies to each other now. I think now that Apple addressed a lot of corporate needs in iPhone OS 2.0 that in 3.0 we will see some nice consumer features that mainly center around video. :D That is my prediction, so things like video recording and YouTube uploading and iChat. All made nice and smooth with Open GL and Grand Central to match the hardware update :)
