I think that is the problem. The major gripe among Apple fans who have been apple fans there whole life is that it's ALWAYS about the iPhone now. 80% of the rumors everyday are iPhone based. Apple changed there name from Apple Computer Inc. to Apple Inc. They are no longer focused on the industry they started as (whether true or not, that is how it seems) so lots of people care about Snow Leopard. Snow Leopard is a developers dream OS (maybe?). Windows 7 is a major leap from Vista, but Apple shouldn't be worried about that right?! Because that's just microsoft anyways??

No! I hope they give a lot of time to Snow Leopard because I am really interested to see what kind of advancements they have made in that. And they should be worried about Windows 7 and microsoft. They still own the market.

QFT. I'm disappointed in Apple's focus on the general consumer while neglecting the Pro market. Yes, Apple has updated the systems from time to time, but the lack of a true desktop processor is disappointing (the iMac now utilizes a mobile processor, making the Mac Pro with a server grade chip the next model). As well, the 24" display is the only display revamp since 2003/2004 (with the exception of minor updates to brightness). Apple seems more concerned with the general consumer through the iPhone, iPod, iMac, etc., which is fine, but the Pro market needs some serious attention.

If I had to guess, the discontinuation of the old 16gb and the introduction of a new mystery model means they will add a 4Gb 3g, keep the 8Gb 3g, and sell them both for cheaper as 'low-end' models alongside the new 16 and 32Gb high-end models.

Who cares about desktops, desktops are dying, you don't jump on a dying market.

Who cares about desktops? Desktops will always be around. As long as someone wants the latest CPU, GPU, or RAM, or the most storage, there will be desktops. They're expandable and laptops aren't.

who cares about SL, it will be out when it has to be out. Iphone i the most important thing right now for WWDC. SL should get released later this year.

Snappy attitude much?
Im just curious about SL, the date isnt really a concern right now. I maily want to see Marble (if it exists) so i can rest assured that SL wont be the gui mashup that is Leopard.

That just reminded me that there are some UI elements left over from Tiger in Leopard. There's the icon chooser in iChat and the theme selector in Keynote '08 and there's probably more.

Complain to the government.

I live in Dubai, and flickr is blocked by the government, would someone possibly post an image here of the DoubleTwist ad?

Thanks.

I have to wonder about the logic behind that.

This is gonna be great! Snow Leopard and iPhone 2009!!

I am ready, too...hopefully my stupid carrier in Switzerland is gonna offer it as well...

The new iPhone is gonna bury the stillborn Palm Pre in the ashes, just in case the normally incompetent marketing efforts by Palm are not doing that already...GO APPLE!

And of course, the newest version of the best OS on Earth; what to say?

Of course they will be around but laptops are surpassing desktops. Desktops used to rule but now their influence is shrinking. They used to hold the price advantage but now that advantage is gone, with netbooks being so popular these days. People want portable computers not huge desktops they can't take with them. Most of the so called advantages they hold will become less as time goes on.

Yeah, when you compare a netbook to a desktop then there's a problem there.

People want the portability that netbooks and laptops over any advantages that desktops bring which is why those markets are growing and desktops aren't. It's even more evident with Apple.

Depends on what you are doing. I have a whole slew of computers. I have two netbooks. One of my netbooks, my Asus HE1000 can do 90% of everything I need it to do. I have even hooked it up to a nice monitor and keyboard and it can do probably 8% of the remaining 10% at that point.

I agree it will not be able to handle the cutting edge stuff, but for most stuff for most people they are more than capable. Since it only cost me like $400, I think they are becoming more popular and will continue to cut into the market.

True, but when it comes to real power, people are going to stick with desktops. That was part of the professional line issue that was discussed earlier.

But with a keyboard and mouse is it really portable anymore?

Phones. phones, phones!
That's all I hear about lately.
I wouldn't care, but this is simply the worst damn cell phone I have ever owned.
It might be great at all the other crap but as a phone it SUCKS!
I cannot wait till my contract is over and I can dump this POS.

I need to cuddle up to a Snow Leopard and calm down ;)

It might be a "POS" for you but not those who gave it the industry's highest satisfaction rate.

As a cell phone?
Amazing.
I guess everyone has different needs, likes and dislikes.
I'm not setting myself up as the arbiter of taste...just giving my own, and from the sound of it singular, opinion.
I certainly wasn't making that statement on anyone else's behalf ;)

So, when should I buy an iMac

Can I get some advice please?
I'm ready to buy an iMac with a 24-inch monitor.
I've been waiting for WWDC before making a decision.
Ideally, I want an iMac with Snow Leopard (and the Marble interface).
I can buy the thing using my education discount.
I'm not in a huge rush since I already have a MacBook and Mac mini.
What I really want is the larger monitor.
Do you think the iMac hardware will change at all?
Should I wait for SL to buy an iMac or just upgrade to the new OS when it (eventually) becomes available?
I'm looking forward for some advice!
