It looks like the 3.0 banner still shows an iPhone with a silver bezel. Would that be a hint that, a) the black bezel rumor isn't true or, b) there will be no new iPhone announcement after all?

Any banners that mention or reference unannounced products get covered in black until after the keynote. All banners will have pictures of current hardware or things we already know about.

And to everyone hating on the idea of an App Store for the AppleTV, multiple sources are reporting that it's going to happen. That WWDC developers will get an AppleTV SDK and that it will go live sometime in the fall.

And I don't get why people keep asking for hardware updates at WWDC. It's not an event to show off what's new and hot. It's an event for developers.

I see Apple TV relegated to a September iPod event. Those are getting boring now and Apple TV would help spice it up. Of all their products, it's the most desperate in need of an upgrade.

What about the Mac Mini?

I mean't Monday. :D

Yeah, it won't be monday either.

Monday is iPhone OS 3.0 for sure (available immediately)

iPhone hardware announcement of iPhone Video / 3G V2 / etc. (going on sale the end of June)

And then "one more thing..."

Apple will most likely not release the software for the newest iPhone befire they release the newest iPhone. They didn't last year (although it was "leaked" based on the release dates in other parts of the world), but it wont be officially released until then.

He didn't say he was judging the OS. He just said it makes it seem less exciting. Get over yourself.

Calm down mate. No one is attacking anyone hear and no one is being smug. He was merely saying you can't judge the OS based on banners that are being photograpghed before the keynoet. It just wouldn't be smart of Apple otherwise.

I agree, G4 is just wrong. But 'iPhone Video'?! Come on. Not only is the name false, it even sounds horrible when saying it out loud. Might as well call it 'iPhone Touch' then ... /s

There is a 0% chance that Apple will call it that, mainly because it's a bad name, partly because ALL THREE iPhone models will support copy and paste. They might call it iPhone Video.

Since when has Apple been good at naming any of there new products? Especially the iPhone. iPhone 3G?! really?! Terrible name.

huy guys.
Does anyone have seen this picture before?
I dont wont to be a lamer but seems pretty real.

It's a mockup, but it is stunning and if Apple released that product i think i'd have a macgasm. It's very nice.

This is either the best of times or worst of times for this but...my 1st Gen IPhone died today (well...partially died. A strip of the touchscreen is non-responsive...and of course it's the strip where the phone number comes up if you call from a contact, the newest phone message appears, and the first three people on my Favorites are...so those three people can't be called no way/no how).

So need a new phone.

Which is good, 'cause new ones are probably going to be released.

Which is bad, 'cause while they are announced on Monday, chances they will be released in the next month...not so good!

For several reasons. One being that people love new Apple products and use any change to hope for one to arrive. Another being that just because its centered around software doesn't mean that hardware wont be new. For example, software based around new hardware . Developers like playing around with new hardware too.

On the other hand, I agree with you, but let people anticipate. Who's it hurting?

Ugh, that's a tough situation. I would definitely wait until the new one is released, but Apple may simply swap it out for a new one. Depending on the Genius bar, more often than not Apple would swap it out (they have a stock of refurbished models just for replacing defective models). As you have the first generation iPhone, it may not qualify, I'm not sure of the exact specifics for qualification. I do know that being 100% upfront (i.e. I dropped it or it got wet) is the best way to approach them as they know when someone is being dishonest. If they replace it free of charge (or even for a discounted price), go for it, you would still qualify for an upgrade next month.

Wrong. AT&T already announced their upgrade to HSPA 7.2 technology.
iPhones need new hardware to take advantage of this tech.

AT&T article: http://www.att.com/gen/press-room?pid=4800&cdvn=news&newsarticleid=26835

I believe you're wrong on other points as well, but I'll stick to facts instead of rumors.

Correct. A new iPhone will be necessary to take advantage of the 7.2Mbps. The current iPhone has hardware capable of supporting 7.2Mbps, but is limited by software to 3.6Mbps due to power management. It is unlikely OS 3.0 will remove this limitation.

Also, AT&T has not yet begun their rollout of the 7.2Mbps (Yes, I know its already available in other parts of the world). According to AT&T CEO, the rollout will begin in the coming months and will last through 2009 and 2010. The reason for the lengthy rollout is that backhaul will have to be upgraded to each individual cell site for the speeds to be achieved.

i disagree with those that think there is going to be some hot new rocking iphone. any changes will be small. better camera, more ram. but not a major change like there was from the first to the second. there's just no reason for it. certainly no body change or we'd have case rumors. and there's no new cellular network to upgrade for.

There have been case rumors. There was the matte case, there was the bezel change. Nothing huge, but just making the point.

as for apps. why would the apple tv need it. the only apps you might use would be like hulu and cut into sales.
Just cause you can't think any doesn't mean that there isnt a need for apps.

but I don't know about this notion of them making a smaller 'netbook'. unless maybe they are going to ditch making the air a full computer (barely has enough power for that anyway)
Eventually they will most likely make a netbook. Maybe not now but somewhere in the future. Super portables are still a different market than netbooks, and there is nothing wrong with the air. It's not the most powerful computer in the world but it doesn't have to be, and its not made to be. It has enough power for what people who buy it need it to do.

I agree. Take the SIM out and put it in your old phone or another GSM based one, and as hard as it may be (and it is hard), attempt to use that phone for a month. The wait will be necessary, and seeing as it is the original, you are probably up for an upgrade pretty soon, (depending on when you bought it).

Would Apple risk pissing off 1000s of potential customers by releasing small quantities of the new iPhone on Monday?

I'll be sleeping in my car Sunday night in front of the mall just in case.

I have no idea when Apple will release the new iPhone. However, I did go to an AT&T store and they checked my account for upgrade eligibility, which will be in July. They suggested this is when most people will qualify for the upgrade price. Was the iPhone 3G released in July 2008?

EDIT: Answered my own question: July 10, 2008

Now that we have a new X.x release, we need a new cat name! Let the speculation commence.

Tiger (10.4), Leopard (10.5), Snow Leopard (10.6), 10.7?

Pigme Leopard?

Rocketman

Cougar or Lion?

How about a Liger!

It won't be another leopard species. Lion will probably be the last OSX based name cause it is the king of the OS X 'species.' Rocketman seems plausible though. I'd put my money on that.

Developers attending WWDC will get 10A380. The remaining developers that were shut out due to WWDC selling out will get it about a month later. Happens every time.

That does happen often with the first developer build, but have we seen previous betas of a new major release survive two WWDC's?

As it's over a year old I'm sure it's out of warranty (and swapablilty). But maybe I should check at the Genius Bar...

No droppage or water damage occurred. That area just...stopped working last night.

I'm sure they won't want to swap it for a 32GB new model (darn it! :)

Yeah, that's what AT&T tech suggested today (buy a GoPhone and swap the sim card on Monday). Luckily she said i was eligible for the upgrade price so...wouldn't have to wait IF there are any available on Monday (any bets on that though?)
