and compairing the old xfiles and this one... hmm.. at first i thought i was watching californication in xfiles scenes - drama after drama... then i was watching some "hilarious" comedy about a lizard man.. oh boy...

The original X-Files was the same way.

If they decide to go on with a full series, they really need to move on with Robbie Amell and Lauren Ambrose quickly. They clearly PLANNED on doing this anyway when they cast two actors that look like the younger originals and gave them nearly the same beliefs and personalities.

I also think they need to choose what story arc they want to go after. One of the things that killed the original series was a lack of focus on the overall story.

For me, I like the "government conspiracy/alien" angles. The random naked guy running through truck stops who turns into a turtle or some other frigging amphibian creature is so goofy that I feel like I'm watching a live action version of Scooby-Do!

After watching some of the new stuff and finding it abysmally boring and uninspired and lacking ... well, anything positive to say ... I spent a bunch of time with my younger son last weekend re-watching stuff from season #1 & 2.

No ... not the same. It is binary - one is good, the other is crap.

It was nice to see Krycek and Reyes again, but from the preposterousness of the story (which should have been titled "Scully and Mulder and Company Save the World") to the ridiculousness of the idea that they can make enough vaccine for 7 billion people who have only hours or days to live, to the frustratingly inconclusive ending (we don't know for a fact this show is gonna be back, do we?) it was pretty much of a disaster.

You know, if this show doesn't come back (which is entirely possible; look how long they took to get to the second movie or the current season), The X Files is going to go down in the annals of shows that ended horribly, joining Lost, How I Met Your Mother, and that bizarre season of Dallas where dead Bobby Ewing showed up in the shower.

After some reflection, I've decided that the recent finale of the X-Files wasn't good.

It started off kind of cool, and seeing Mulder trip on mushrooms was amusing, but the ending sucked.

I only watched the first two episodes and gave up. I can't believe I didn't get into the new season as I watched the original series from day one and own every episode.

I just couldn't get into it.

I'll give this season a try again. I didn't bother watching the last two episodes from last years season. I wasn't all that impressed with what they did.

Oh, but the very last episode was the one most like the older episodes! I agree with you, the others were kind of blasé.

I was a big X-Files fan. Though I sometimes was annoyed by all the alien arcs that didn't make sense, it was always fun to watch Mulder and Scully interact. But I was disappointed by the last reboot. I'll probably give this one a go, but I'm not expecting much.

Oh boy. Again?

I may tune in out of morbid curiosity, but like Roller I'm not expecting much. I especially hate the current storyline that all the alien stuff has just been a hoax.

I'd actually be fine if they dropped the explicit alien arc, even though it's been a major part of The X-Files since inception. The more evidence they showed that aliens visited earth, the more frustrating it was. There are plenty of other story lines about unexplained events that they can follow. And, given the high visibility of the FBI these days, it'd be interesting to make the episodes more topical.
