Really? I'm finding MS's streaming tech to be awful on iOS. Streaming direct from either my XB1, or XBSX to my iPad is only usable for fairly low framerate games, and regularly shows the network warning indicator. Meanwhile I can fire up OneCast and stream from my XB1 with no issues whatsoever. Same devices, same network, different outcomes.

Similarly this service seems rough at best on my iPad Pro. I'll give it ago on my phone via cell and see if that helps. The only issue I can think of that might impact my LAN would be buffer bloat, but again, not something that seems to phase OneCast which is quite capable of doing its job even while people are beating on the network elsewhere in the house.
cloud gaming is not console gaming. The cloud gaming experience is going to be way more variable between users because now your inputs to the machine and the graphic signal to your screen first have to travel over the internet. And that not only automatically adds extra delay, but is subject to the whims of your local network/internet connection to the server at that time.

so one guy can say it works great and the next guy can say no it doesn't and both be right.

And the guy who says it works great, might change his mind a few hours later. And vice versa.

Nevermind each person will have a different tolerance for the same delays and hiccups inherent with cloud gaming.

MMORPG games like Runescape function like this already. The only thing your PC/Mac processes locally are the "enhanced" 720p, 1080p, 2K and 4K graphics. However, that processing depends on your connection stability which feeds your GPU what to display from the browser applet.

That said, as to the original post. This is how you compete vs Apple on games. One company doesn't need to subsidize another's infrastructure.

The fact that this even works on the iPhone at all via the web just goes to show how onerous Apple’s terms are. This could’ve been a native app (and seamless for users) and both companies could’ve profited. Now Microsoft has done all the backend work (including payment processing) and Apple doesn’t get a cut.

It's really, really good on iPad and the few times I've done it on Mac. I'm just still a bit miffed that where I could use this solution the most – the Apple TV – has no solution with how they have to implement doing this through the browser.
Don’t worry soon it going to have an app on all tv!

better gpu/performance would not matter for cloud gaming.

It matters for decoding the video signal and when connected to an external display, I was talking about connecting your iOS device to a TV, so to achieve 60fps you need a recent usb-c iPad, etc.

Was in the closed beta. It’s a great experience if you consider what’s actually happening behind the scenes.

really looking forward to the tech evolving I’ve the next 1-5 years.

and keep in mind, it’s still in beta and it’s this good already.

I’m impressed with the service for what it is, and could be. But it’s still too sluggish even on a fast low latency connection.

it would be ok for Turn based games I guess.

oh ok. yeah if the port can't output 60 hz at said resolution then you wouldn't get a true 60 fps.

it's a dead end type of setup though. I mean might as well just get a cheap chromecast/googleTV etc if you're hooking your iPad to the tv. OR so it seems to me.

I Wish Apple would just play ball and allow them to make a dedicated app. It’s not like they compete at all in the gaming space.

the thing is the tech isn't going to evolve anytime soon because the bottleneck is the path from your home over the internet to the server and back.

Maybe, in the next 10-20 years, the internet overall could have a much lower latency on average. But not going to happen anytime soon overall.

Agree. Along the same line, if one owns a recent smart tv as I do, the goal should be to have an official xCloud app for your smart tv, with you controller hooked to your tv's bluetooth, etc. thus avoiding input lag and unneeded external devices or hops, as even the chromecast, apple tv, etc are just relaying the video to the screen without much processing anyways...

My TV (Samsung), recognizes my DualShock controllers, but there's no xCloud app in sight just yet...
