Again why? Cores don't mean s**t in daily use. Let's be honest what app uses all cores on the pic level besides gaming?

Games tend not to use multi cores. That is why MHz over cores is recommended for gaming PCs

The problem is RAM changes so seldom, it's not a point where they can bring up each keynote and say it improves. And the fact that Apple devices almost always offer less ram than the competition . I agree RAM is not an area they lead in and not worth stating in the keynotes where time is of essence.
Ye

Yea what about the mini 4. I swear I'll return mine if it's still using 1gb of ram!
So you buy a device for a certain amount of ram? Yet Apple's iOS devices have worked well with the amount of ram they have (except maybe the iPhone6) and iOS 9 will bring lots of optimisations.
I have an iPad Mini 2 and it works great with the 1GB ram...

2 things. Firstly, It is True because how they approach multitasking is a part of their memory management plan.
Secondly, the average joe makes up at least 90% of apples user base. The people who need to run tools like that are literally 'the fringe' statistically speaking.

False. iOS has gotten away with low DRAM because it doesn't background multitask like desktop, laptop, Android, any modern OS, etc. While the average joe probably doesn't need it but if you're in IT and need to run tools with interactive sessions like SSH, RDP, etc. they'll get killed in the background on iOS after 3 minutes.

So basically they didn't always work well with the amount they have.

So what about the other half who are not idiots and keep buying them? Stupid arguments... If the phone does what you need and is done well then why does it matter. Now who is stupid and support lame arguments?
My iPhone does what it needs very well. Where are you going with this? It appears that you are trolling me.

Keep in mind, before the "wowz it took soon long" wave comes in, this 2GB of RAM is going outperform many/most of the 3GB+ devices out there. The amount of work they've done in memory compression (acquiring firms like anobit) and tuning the OS to the hardware is just staggering.

I would guess that is why most of us do not care how much ram is in our phone but whether it does its job!
My 6 is great! Cant wait to upgrade to the S, this is a big upgrade!

Wow. Self-centered and arrogant. Newsflash...you aren't better than anyone. In fact I would guess the opposite with these comments you're making.

Actually, the most common reason given (please educate yourself and learn the difference between a reason and an excuse) is that apple focuses on the overall user experience and how it affects the consumer, which is its strength) rather than focusing on a spec sheet like many of its competitors do.

Are you new here?

The biggest excuse given on this very forum for why it's okay for Apple to ship underspec'ed devices is "Most people don't know the difference, therefore it's okay."

The Unwashed should not be the motivating drivers of advancement.

So because it won't work FOR YOU as a MacOS replacement. It therefore is not a TRUE replacement for anyone...right?
Self-centered much?

FYI. Developer/power users are a very small % of the entire AppleOS user base. iPads are a suitable replacement, in my opinion, for at least 60% of that user base.

Wait you just had a go at one person for being judgemental and followed up by judging for 60%...... Wow, just wow!

I'm yet to find someone that has replaced a desktop OS with iOS or android, if they do more than surf the web and watch videos on YouTube.... You are also speaking for the population who has access to high speed internet, and moved all thier years of assets to the cloud....which they require a computer ;)

Speak for own needs I quess, don't judge that most of us no longer need a desktop OS.

Yea if you only play candy crush and never have more than 2 safari tabs open then yes it works great

I think 3D touch makes a TON of sense tied with the haptic engine, because it makes your phone feel "alive" in a sense in your hand. Now iPads are NOT going to get that experiencing because even though you may hold them from time to time, they are used mostly as a swiping/tapping input. To me the 3D Touch doesn't make sense.

What DOES make sense however, is something apple/Disney have been developing for many years now (along with Senseg who announced late last year that they have teamed up in applying their tech with a "major industry leader"), and that is TRUE haptic technology. Now what makes more sense, 3D Touch on an iPad so that you get a slightly different click when you tap (verses a completely different experience on a phone, which you whole hand's sense of touch is involved in) OR A SCREEN THAT YOU CAN ACTUALLY FEEL THE DIFFERENCE BETWEEN MATERIALS?

The next big leap in iPad's are going to be when you can drag your finger across a piece of wood and feel the grain, actually feel the nuance in a piece of fabric on a shirt you are looking to order online, feel the strain in the slingshot in Angry Birds?

No I don't think iPads will ever get 3D Touch, the pipeline for REAL haptics incorporated into screens is only 2-3 years out from mass manufacture (I've been watching the field for years now). I think Apple is focused on bringing true haptic technology to consumers.

http://www.senseg.com/experience/senseg-experience <-For anyone that has no idea what I'm talking about.

EDIT:
And wouldn't you know it, the Senseg page has been taken down, only a few short months after their announcement of teaming up with a major industry leader.

Nice post, you were getting me excited about the idea of touching and really feeling the input on the iPad that does make better sense and wow what a feature that would compel the masses to buy THAT iPad talk about a whole new user experience.

I'm sure loading a few tabs and then for half of them to be killed from the ram cache is a good thing?
I just close the tabs and kill the apps as Im done..
Don't hear that many people complain about this..
It'll be interesting to see what effect if any iOS 9 has on this.
Anyhow, you must be jazzed?

Well, if you need to do a lot of 'work' on Safari it becomes a problem losing tabs while you're browsing, I've seen this for myself.

"Actual real work" what an arrogant condescending comment. As if people who don't do everything you do on a computer don't do "actual real work".
You aren't better than anyone. You just have different needs than other people in terms of computing.

There are some of us that actually do real work on our OS (computer programmer here), not just read emails. I don't see myself using Xcode on an arm processor.

I think you said it above, I'd use my iPad, but either way, never had that problem.
But I my work on the iPhone is more music apps and like the controller for the qsc mixer,
those things work fine.
I might upgrade to the 6Splus..even though the 6S is probably big enough..

"This will stop the whining" --as if, all of you aren't happy that Apple made the change as well.
I'm happy that Apple made the change. I also never complained about having 1 GB of RAM.

It doesn't happen much on MacRumors, but it is indeed possible to want something more from Apple without throwing a tantrum about it.

Yuck, 1 GB of RAM is plenty. Hopefully they go back to 1 GB next year.

And the year after that; it maybe cut in half to 512MB of RAM! Make it LPDDR2 too! Thank would suit me too since I will not be upgrading till 2018! Fine with me!

No. His comment that they shipped those items because they don't care about the consumer.

The phone didn't have 1 GB of RAM or start with 16 GB (with the next one being 64 GB, making that much more of a marketing move)?
