I apologize for my ignorance but will the 2gb help safari work a bit better by not reloading pages or is safari programmed to work that way

vi (vim) in the OS X Terminal. I use it a lot, even when developing code in Swift.

I know I mentioned OS X but the real question was, is an Esc key really necessary for iOS? Does iOS even support the input of an Esc key?

I love people who say Apple doesn't announce RAM because they're not into that kind of business, while they keep talking everytime about their new processor and how it blows everything else.

I didn't see this last keynote. Did Apple actually state that the A9 and A9x CPUs blows everything else?

It's not ignorance, particularly.

When you minimise an app on your phone, it's held in suspense in varying degrees of activity, depending on the app and whether you have 'Background Refresh' enabled in your settings. It's similar for Safari tabs. More RAM *should* mean that your phone has more space to hold more apps/tabs in suspense.

I'm not entirely familiar with how iOS allocates memory because OSX does it quite weirdly, with compression techniques I don't quite understand. I suspect iOS is similar.

Simply put, though if you go over the 2GB threshold, the tabs will still be closed/the apps will have to be relaunched afresh (though apps and tabs work a little differently in this regard). More RAM, more tabs/apps!

Please learn how to read. I wasn't judging 60% of people. I estimated that iOS and similar OSs are suitable for at least 60% of the population. That's not judging people.

There is a small (% -wise) population that will always need a full OS. But for the vast majority, iOS or android will work for 100% of what they do. TBH I didn't think so for the longest time until by luck I was forced to use an iPad as my only computer for 1.5 months. Many people I know use them as their ONLY device. And everyone I know uses them as their primary device and a laptop/desktop as their secondary. This is across several different areas.

Is an iPad only workflow and option for everyone? No. And I never claimed that.
But it will work for the vast majority.

Maybe you shouldn't project your use-case on others?

Wait you just had a go at one person for being judgemental and followed up by judging for 60%...... Wow, just wow!

I'm yet to find someone that has replaced a desktop OS with iOS or android, if they do more than surf the web and watch videos on YouTube.... You are also speaking for the population who has access to high speed internet, and moved all thier years of assets to the cloud....which they require a computer ;)

Speak for own needs I quess, don't judge that most of us no longer need a desktop OS.

2 GB is a significant upgrade. On iPhone 6 (Plus) you only get a few hundred MBs of free RAM (200-300 at best). That's enough for a couple of tabs in Safari and 1-2 apps before things start reloading. With 2 GB RAM, you have 1.3 GB of free RAM (4.5x or 450% more) which is PLENTY for dozens of tabs and apps. A huge difference.
In all likelihood iOS will cache more processes with the extra available RAM to speed up loading so iOS will probably use more on 6S than it does on 6.

With Safari opening for 3rd party extension... 2GB is not enough...

We need 4GB to accommodate 100x extension installed and opening 100 tabs.

No. His comment that they shipped those items because they don't care about the consumer.
Well they certainly cared about the company more than the customer when it comes to those things. Not that it's new or unusual in general, but it's still the reality nonetheless.

Only 3 years late. Galaxy Note II with 2GB DRAM says welcome to 2012.
Funny.

You know what's even more funny. I have a LG G2 with 2GB RAM that runs slower than a iPhone 5s. Not to mention the stutters and crashes.

I couldn't care less about the specs, as long as I get a smooth experience with clever features I really use. And regular updates (here in Japan I'm still stuck with JellyBean.)
All I want is a device that works, without rooting, without stage fright security holes, without bloatware, without performance issues after a short while of usage.

And a honest question. What's the point of coming to a Apple centric forum to tell us how superior your Android devices are?
Do you need your daily justification that you did choose the right thing?

If so. Here we go...
Yeah my son, your Android phone is super great. You are such a clever boy. *Patting on the shoulder*

Starting 98.40 in the keynote. Things like "90% faster", "new architecture", "desktop-class CPU", "most advanced ship ever in a smartphone", "incredible cpu"

Ram is done differently on samsung phones afterall...even with 4GB of ram apps still refresh

Would someone guide me to understand what is equivalent ram in OS X to 4gb iOS? What are ram hungry apps and how much do they take?
